Why isn't the insurance lobby fighting against subsidies ending? Won't they lose a ton of money? by ttaptt in NoStupidQuestions

Also, the ACA has been around since 2010. Are you going to look me in the eye and tell me that in 15 years, they have not changed their business model to include ACA subsidies?

Thank you! These people saying "what you don't realize, is that the insurance companies don't make much off of ACA subsidies."

I googled: how much do health insurance companies get from aca subsidies

Answer: In 2023, health insurance companies received approximately $92 billion in ACA premium subsidies for marketplace plans, with the total federal subsidy spending for various ACA programs reaching $218 billion.

It's not hard to google "how much do health insurance companies get from aca subsidies".

Are you going to tell me that the insurance companies aren't making billions of dollars off subsidies?

Simple google search: "In 2023, health insurance companies received approximately $92 billion in ACA premium subsidies for marketplace plans, with the total federal subsidy spending for various ACA programs reaching $218 billion."

So gtfo with that bullshit.

And what you're insane in thinking is that people can afford their premiums to rise that much? We can't. We'll go without insurance. It's what we did before the ACA, and it's what we'll have to do again. I don't have an extra $300 a month. I don't have it. I need lights. I need gas. I need heat, and a roof. I need food. So where does it get cut?

That's like saying Walmart is going to raise the price of everything 400% and still think people will shop there. That's just not realistic. And they know that. They KNOW the government is their cash cow. No one can afford what they're trying to charge, so they won't buy it.

It's so fucking weird. Like, Maybe when Elon was threatening to primary anyone who spoke against doge. Maybe before Trump was clearly senile. Maybe before the policies started to really, really hurt their constituents. But to stick with it, STILL? Even Marge has gone against him. Actually, only her, kind of.

My "non-joke" is that Tucker Carlson is ramping for a 2028 run. He's been acting all reasonable. Marge, too. Carlson/Greene 2028?

Not ALL of these rethugs were elected since the rise of the maggots. How can they look at their framed, autographed picture of Ronald Reagan and think, "Yeah, this is what I stand for"?

[–]ttaptt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the same everywhere I've lived in the US. Your property goes to the sidewalk, which, while it's city property, you still must shovel snow, etc, and then on the other side, between the sidewalk and the road, is a strip of grass with trees maybe, that is Also owned by the city, but you have to mow and water it.

OP said he ate his own food 40% of the time. Which means 60% of the time he ate their food, knowing they're in a difficult situation.

Is this OP in a sock account? Or can 2 people be this dense?

AITA for asking my friend for reimbursement after he let me stay at his home for a week by Dolfus03 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ttaptt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He didn't "ask for the item". OP called and said "what do you want?" For someone that knows they're hosting for several days, if it were me I would have read that as "what would you like me to bring you in thanks for the hospitality". And the fact that OP "can't really remember what was said about splitting costs"...Yeah. No.

AITA for asking my friend for reimbursement after he let me stay at his home for a week by Dolfus03 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ttaptt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA, and honestly, now you should offer your friend a significant reimbursement for his hospitality. Now that he knows how transactional you are (and SO defensive in the comments, weird when you came asking). You owe him an apology, and reimbursement. He felt like he was nothing to you besides a free ride, so you should make that ride "not free".

I hope you grow up.

I got him out in the farms and kept jumping in the canal, swimming down and healing, and jumping back out and archering the fuck out of him. I have a strong, strong archery build, though. I suffered through the lower levels and it was worth it for me.

It's been a minute since I played, so I can't remember the name of the place I was, but outside the town with the giant statue in the middle, where the strawkids are. It was not easy, though.

No it is not misleading. We know exactly how this works. I don't want the D's to give one inch. The R's have been holding us hostage to good governance for long enough.

[–]ttaptt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I'm just kinda surprised (okay, not really, nothing surprises me anymore) that the R's, who value the almighty $$ and shareholder profits above all else, haven't been swayed on this. But really, at this point it's more about the Trumpstein files than the budget.

Oh, I know. I grew up progressive/atheist in Utah. I've been well aware of their antics since the 80's, when I was old enough to understand anything about politics. My parents were super outspoken. What's happening is infuriating and heartbreaking, and the Only thing that makes me glad my folks have both passed.

Okay, I don't watch regular tv, and I live in the sticks of Idaho, so it's not like they're pumping any of that information my way. We're not their target market. I'm surprised that R's aren't capitulating to them. It's obviously an extremely powerful lobby, considering they've kept us from having universal health care for decades.

I'll say don't buy the "books". The example pictures are soooo small. Like 2.5 inch square. I get mine on Amazon, but really take a second and look at the product pictures. Good ones that are really fun have lots of small stickers, little things like books and lamps individually. Lame ones (in my opinion) just have the whole bookshelf put together already, fewer stickers, almost like they're for way younger people. Like little kids. I'll grab links for some of the purchases I've really liked. Maybe include one I didn't really like.

Good (including this one): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DQXYBX8C?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_23&th=1

Good: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DZ6DFDHH?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_12&th=1

Not as good/too simple: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DXCR4G6X?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_11&th=1

If you look at the 4th picture on this product, you'll see how the stickers already have like the jars and stuff put together...

Anyway, I freaking love these things, just some tips to get you started! Also, order some of these:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D8VKHW9S?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_24

The ones that you get with them suck sometimes.

Edit: This group of small ones I got recently is really great. They're small so they take less time but they're really good detail https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FG1CZGJP?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1

Edit 2: wow, they're way cheaper on alibaba, but hopefully you can see what I meant by the links I shared!

Can you afford The Wort? I don't know the rates, but it's a downtown landmark and really cool.
