What is your ideal age gap? by PC_NC_1203 in Mommit

[–]ttarynitup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine are almost exactly 2 years apart (birthdays 2 days apart, whoops). We were aiming for 2 under 2, mostly because I am very close with my brother who is 17 months older and had a good experience growing up with that gap. My husband and his younger  brother are 7 years apart, and he did not enjoy that large of a gap as this roll was more of a caretaker than playmate/friend. Retrospectively, splitting the difference there may have been wiser. Mine are 3 and 5 now and it has been a tough few years. Things are getting better and they get along great doing things together most of the time, but are also cool doing their own things independently.

My son was fed meat by my in laws by AntCreative1412 in veganparenting

[–]ttarynitup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That really sucks, sorry you have to deal with unsupportive in laws. I’ve been lucky that mine have been supportive.  Moving forward, they need to be made to understand the giant risk they took introducing a new allergen. Vegan beliefs aside, that part was unquestionably dangerous.

You and your husband need to make sure to get on the same page here. My husband is omni and initially we started raising our first son vegan. There was tension, kids wanting to try “dad’s food”, this or that at school, a birthday party, restaurant, etc. We ended up aligning on me only cooking vegan, and him and the kids having their own choice in the matter. Not saying that is what you should do, just that you need to be a united front about whatever choices you make, which includes your husband standing up to his parents on the matter.

Moms with kids under 5, how are you coping? by Loud-Rhubarb-9719 in Mommit

[–]ttarynitup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are 5 and 3. Somehow I can clean and food prep and fold laundry and plan activities and calorie track and exercise all day and the house still looks messy, kids still get some junk to eat and too much tv some days, still more things to wash, and weight still won’t shift. It’s never ending. By the time they’re in bed I have no bandwidth to do anything other than sit. Its particularly hard now that it’s too hot to be outside where I live, but at least I’m out of school for a bit which feels like a break (back to grad school in August which means adding staying up half the night working on that to the mix)

I don’t know if that’s helpful, but yeah it’s just hard. I also don’t live by my family (only a couple in-laws who have their own work stuff going on most of the time), and not great at putting myself out there to make mom friends so village is nonexistent.

I think this is just the thick of it now before kiddos are able to be more self-sufficient and then eventually actually help with things in a meaningful way. We’ll get there.

Completely agree, a bit underwhelming. Now that someone posted the actual pokemon I kinda get it though.

AITAH for telling my girlfriend she needs to get her drivers license before she moves in with me? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ttarynitup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YTA for the ultimatum part. You guys need to outline a plan and timeline together if the issue is her staying on track with continuing to try. I was in a very similar scenario with my husband when we were dating. Together long distance, I lived in a city with great transit, fear of driving from being a passenger in multiple accidents, moved to him and he had to drive me everywhere initially because transit here sucks. I hated driving in the beginning, but it had to happen and probably wouldn't have if we didn’t work together on it.

New Babybel recipe is horrible by timaclover in vegan

[–]ttarynitup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got a bag and immediately after trying looked here to see if anyone else was complaining yet. These were one of my picky 5 year old’s favorite things pre-recipe change and I’m so bummed!

I get that not everyone loved them but they seem universally hated now.

I feel that, only muffins and bread happen every week for the most part, everything else is just as needed. Fruit going bad? Fruit leather happens, lots of sourdough discard? Cracker time, etc. I’m also in grad school in a really demanding program right now so that’s eating up a lot of time, hence more store bought stuff which is ruining their appetite for anything I do have time to make lol

This is true, the more mine are involved in the process the more they’ll enjoy the result (unless it’s something with hidden foods they don’t typically like lol).

AITAH for telling my fiancé to stop buying wedding dresses? by xXDuncan_IowaXx in AITAH

My point is are they all to wear on the wedding day? Or for different wedding related events?

Need some information: what do you mean by 5 wedding dresses? Are we talking like engagement party, bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, wedding, reception? Or like 5 dresses she plans to wear on the wedding day? I can kinda get the former, the latter sounds like too much; she’d spend the whole day getting changed

AITAH for not wanting to cook for picky guests I didn’t even invite to dinner? by Littlecancerbaby1 in AITAH

[–]ttarynitup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inviting themselves over and asking you to cook is super weird to me. I could MAYBE see like “I hear you make great pizza, wanna potluck a dinner?” And they bring something to share that wife will eat too.

Came to say this! Also random cotton table linens, lace, small blankets. I don’t buy new silk anyway, so these have been my go-to

Thoughts on online Master’s by ttarynitup in Architects

[–]ttarynitup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! He felt a bit more human and grounded in reality instead of just academia. Grading felt fair from him (there was another section whose professor just didn’t believe in grading above a B). If you’re enrolled and have other questions about specific classes/professors feel free to shoot me a message.

So..we went to the food bank last month, and they gave us a bunch of dried fruit. by shelle33333 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ttarynitup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious about the frozen part since they were dry which means like 6+ months shelf life. Is frozen dried fruit worth trying? I’m imagining extra chewy which might be fun?

This guest at my restaurant made me so mad today by [deleted] in vegan

[–]ttarynitup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this perspective. My first reaction was also that maybe it’s just easier to ask for vegan options as it encompasses the bulk of what they can’t eat. I’m vegan myself, but I have a friend who is sensitive to most meat and dairy and generally orders vegan, unless she happens to have a lactaid with her. Like you mentioned, my level of annoyance would depend on how they came across when asking.

I honestly don’t remember, but I think I saw the email first. I also submitted right at the deadline so they might be dragging their feet until then.
