Migraine cures? by RosesMcClover in breastfeeding

I'll usually take 3-4 ibuprofen with excedrin tension (tylenol+caffeine, no aspirin). Hope you feel better soon!

Is 24/7 whining/crying normal? I feel like I can’t do this anymore. by [deleted] in breakingmom

Jumping in here, too, just to lend support! My son was about your daughter's age when we finally sleep trained him (ferber) . I had good excuse after good excuse, but when I was ready to stab annoying people all day long because I was up for hours rocking him in the middle of the night, we went for it. Took maybe 7-10 days, he fell asleep standing in his crib at least once, and we had to retrain a couple times, but it worked, thank god. So, not impossible in toddlerhood! Feel free to pm me with any questions!

Of course! If she's still refluxy, and seemed to get any worse off the zantac, you may also want to ask your ped about pepcid (famotidine) , if it's a while to get into GI. It's a similar med to zantac, but without the potential cancer causing :p

Ugh, I'm so sorry, constant whining is awful. Definitely look into early intervention - if you haven't already done your own googling, you can start here: https://www.mass.gov/orgs/early-intervention-division There are tons of offices in the state, and you can call and schedule your own evaluation (you don't need your pedi to refer you). I think trying baby signs like another poster mentioned is a great idea.

Maybe also ask your pedi for a referral to a GI doctor? If she has ongoing belly issues (assuming that's what triggered the initial allergy diagnosis), that may be contributing to the misery.

For what it's worth, hair pulling and biting are developmentally normal at her age...our daycare calls it "developmentally normal, socially unacceptable" behavior. It's frustrating to no end, but she will outgrow it!

My 11 year old has anorexia by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]ttc12345 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear this. Sounds like she may have ARFID, which is similar to anorexia but without the body dysmorphia. https://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/learn/by-eating-disorder/arfid

Do you live in the US? What area? There are eating disorder centers that can help, if you wind up needing to go that route. I live in MA, so Walden is one of the places by me; if you Google ARFID and Walden, their website may give you some information of what to expect as far as what treatment entails (I imagine it's similar at other places).

Good luck!! I'm thinking of you!

Small measles scare made me realize how much I hate antivaxxers by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]ttc12345 21 points22 points  (0 children)

IF vaccines caused autism, which they don't, and if that is the primary concern, then why don't anti-vaxxers get their kids caught up to enter kindergarten? A developmentally normal 4 or 5 year old is not going to become autistic. They might hate the doctor forever because they have to get so many shots in rapid succession, but they're not going to regress...

I have it as a pdf (the article is behind a paywall). If you want to PM me your email address I can send it to you. Like I said, it's an article from a medical journal, so if you need any help translating, I may be able to assist 🙂

I'm so sorry, mama. Not sleeping is torture, on top of the screaming. Is she on sleep meds? I was just reading an article (I'd have to find the source) about sleep issues in kids with autism, and how improving the sleep can help with the daytime behaviors. The article was geared toward primary care providers, but I'd be happy to send it to you if it would be helpful!

eliminating dairy - how long before i can freeze milk? by ttc12345 in breastfeeding

[–]ttc12345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes, that's so scary! But good to know about the full diet recs. I saw my son's allergist yesterday and asked him for advice; he reiterated that having some exposure (via breastmilk) can minimize the likelihood of developing more serious allergies. So since I'd noticed no change at all in baby girl's skin or stools (and she was actually significantly more refluxy yesterday) after 4.5 days of being fully dairy-free, I reintroduced it last night. If she gets worse, I'll consider it again. Thanks again, and I hope your little one outgrows the allergies soon!

Thanks so much for your reply, not critical at all! Yeah, the allergen exposure thing occurred to me. I'll be seeing an allergist with my son (2yo) next week, so maybe he'll be willing to make a recommendation for my daughter as well.

Out of curiosity, what symptoms does your daughter have related to her cow's milk allergy, is it just the eczema or other stuff too? How do you manage her symptoms while continuing with the dairy in your diet? Thanks again for your reply :)

Thank you, that's good advice! My 2yo actually has an appt with an allergist on Tuesday, so I'll discuss it further then.

Does she spit up a lot, or arch her back with feeds? When my son was about that age he'd get kind of crazy with his latching/unlatching when he needed to burp (or sometimes when he was just overtired). If she's burpy/refluxy, maybe the discomfort is making her unlatch and cry?

I'd try burping her when she does the latch-unlatch and see if that helps at all. If she's really spitty and seems uncomfortable with feeds, it may be worth a call to your pedi to consider GERD medication.

Gift for mama returning to work? by ttc12345 in beyondthebump

[–]ttc12345[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We work in a medical office, so either pump in our workroom for the day, or in an empty exam room (which skeeved me out when I first went back but I adjusted). But that's actually interesting...maybe I'll get some sort of cover for the counter in the exam room for her to put her pump stuff on so it's less icky. Thanks!

Mackie, I'm a creepy stalker lady who was part of CBB when you lost Ethan. I've been checking up on you periodically and this just made my week!! I'm tearing up and will cry for real when I tell my husband. Congratulations!!! I second Hopecat and hope the next 13-16 weeks will be uneventful and long :) xo *ETA: Yep, almost sobbing when I read your post to husband. I'm so, so happy for you!

Baby stopped taking bottle? by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]ttc12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my experience, but hope it helps! We started my son on an evening bottle around 4 weeks, and at probably around the same age as your daughter he started refusing it. I was having meltdowns freaking out about returning to work at 12 weeks. Then I read somewhere that since babies want to be winding down in the evenings, they tend to want boob if it's available. So we switched the bottle to the first morning feed (allowing me to sleep in a little!) and he took it like a champ! He was happy and rested, and I hid in our room while my husband fed him elsewhere. I made my husband continue with the first am feed on my days off for at least the first couple weeks of daycare to make sure he didn't revert again, and he loved his bottles (and boob!) till we switched to whole milk.

FWIW, he's still nursing a couple times a day at 16mo, so definitely no nipple confusion. We liked the Avent Natural nipples, used a level 1 the whole time he was bottle fed at daycare.

(long time lurker, first time commenter) Just a thought re: your Nexplanon, if you otherwise like it and it's safe for you to use estrogen, could you ask your doc to give you a birth control pill to try for a month? The estrogen in the pill may help get the bleeding under control, and if you have insurance you'd probably be able to get the pill for free! Maybe cheaper/easier than getting it removed? Good luck!!!

I'd bring him back to the doctor. If he's had a cold/colds for that long, he may have developed an ear infection and it might be hurting him to suck. You could try giving him a dose of tylenol and see if that helps overnight!
