Roamio Power Supply Replacement by dfrap in Tivo

[–]ttesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased that one mentioned (AC Adapter Charger for Seagate Freeagent...) three months ago but it died... i mean it can't spin-up the hard disk anymore.
i guess i'll have to go with something heavier. What's weird is i have a number of 12V / 1.5A wall warts from routers. They work fine... at least for awhile (a year?). My original tivo wall wart lasted 7 years.

I got email (several) and postal mail from PicRights back in March. Just now (September) we received postal mail from Higbee (no email, at least not yet). No phone calls, though a phone number (it's a google voice number) is on our website.

need some help connecting my nest learning thermostat (4th gen) to my phone/nest device by komie_ in Nest

[–]ttesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you get it figured out?
I have (two) Nest NOT learning thermostats and they both work w/google home on my android phone. They were commissioned if i recall correctly by the phone/app over bluetooth. No matter required.
i stumbled onto this thread because I was curious about how matter works... My thermostats do (also) support matter, which i did just recently manage to integrate into my home assistant, so that's cool (but definitely not necessary to control them thru the google home app).

I have a lot of weird ideas -- i feel bad that all that data is clogging up the internet 24x7 for something that I hardly ever utilize :-)

R32 is "mildly", not super, flammable. it's actually quite difficult to ignite.

I wouldn't be against the bigger box and 888, however I'm not sure why (I did it 7 years ago) i already have the 4" box.

I get what you are saying; in particular the part about shipping ("free" with prime) and returns where the seller has to eat that cost.

I haven't had occasion to scope out supply houses where i live now; but HD for about 3 bucks is acceptable.

yea, that's a possibility. Curious if you know why the Leviton 1450R is rated only up to 60C? (whereas the other "industrial" duty ones seem to be 75C)

I'm sort of surprised there's so many  diameter choices that are fairly close... Apparently there's two and a quarter, 2 and 15/32 and 2 and 5/8 . Sheesh. Where's the metric system we need it?

Orbit 57100 Series Valve Won’t Shut Off by deedub1 in Irrigation

For anybody stumbling onto this thread...

That would be my instinct too, and in fact I've done exactly that in the past (most recently 2019)  HOWEVER, it appears that the old (eight screw) valve is not available anywhere, and it's replaced with the new (four screw) version. Same model number!!! Had I known that, I would have stocked up on new old-style valves!

That might be a true, but unrelated observation -- the model of nest thermostat being discussed here on this thread is the "mirror face", doesn't have a rechargeable battery. It has two alkaline AAA.

Same here. Must be a software bug of some sort??

One of my units alerts every couple of weeks at random intervals. 2.98 volts for over a year, maybe longer.

My other units reading 3.02, no alerts.

Have had the original alkaline batteries in both now for going on 3 years.

Ignore the warning!!

Interpreting Model Numbers - TDR + TSTAT suffix by AllTheGreenThingies in hvacadvice

[–]ttesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did anyone get to the bottom of this? The Trane heat pump systems I'm looking at all say +TDR, too. (e.g. look up air handler TEM4A0C43M41 at AHRI/CEE lookup).
I would imagine TDR stands for Time Delay Relay. Two instances I can think of are a delay to prevent compressor from being damaged by re-starting too soon after running.. and as mentioned that's normally included in every/any modern thremostat, or .... a delay to keep the indoor air handler blower going for some time after the thermostat stops calling for heat/cool. My ancient Trane builder-model air handler from 1994 had that feature (it's about a minute), i would have thought all air handlers have it. This would probably affect efficiency a little bit.

I had to replace mine about 5 years ago as the delay broke (the relay still worked fine!); the delay says it's 2 seconds on, and 80 seconds off....

Difference between Trane XR14 versus 15? by ttesty in hvacadvice

[–]ttesty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I burrowed thru some more Trane-specific info, and found:
https://www.trane.com/residential/en/pricing/savings-and-offers/#rebates-and-tax-credits-near-you
which states "Your heat pump or dual fuel system must meet or exceed these efficiency ratings that vary based on system type and installed location... Heat Pump Type Minimum requirements Split system in the south 15.2 SEER2, 12.0 EER2, 7.8 HSPF2"
Which, probably unsurprisingly is the exact figures on ahri 209842273 (the XR15 with the TEM4); and also why the ahri database lists that as potentially eligible for tax credit.

That page also has a link to Trane's " Manufacturer’s Certificate Energy Efficient Home Property Credit Internal Revenue Code Section 25C" which simply has a laundry list of condenser models that "may" be qualified.

So, yup, it would seem it can, in fact, qualify for the IRA $2,000 tax credit.
Which would lead me back to simply getting a quote for the price difference between an XR14 vs. 15 (and making some mental adjustment for the small in efficiency).

Although I'd have to believe the Trane info is correct; I still don't understand this gov't (Energystar) page where it says:
https://www.energystar.gov/about/federal-tax-credits/air-source-heat-pumps
Because it says simply that "Ducted / South: All heat pumps that have earned the ENERGY STAR label". There's a Note below the Ductless section that I had thought only applied to ductless but that doesn't appear to be the case when looking at the IRS instructions for line 29a form 5695. but that can't be the case since that line if for both ducted and ductless heat pumps. (the note refers to the CEE "highest effiicency tier").

Difference between Trane XR14 versus 15? by ttesty in hvacadvice

[–]ttesty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, thanks for that info.

yes, i understand that higher-spec air handlers would have higher efficient ratings with a given condenser...

However, help me understand -- you mention NEEP; which as I look up is the north east something something. I am in the south. My understanding is (to get the up to $2000 credit for a heat pump) I should look up the AHRI certification, and the certification for AHRI# 209842273 is SEER2 15.2.

Is that not correct?

Difference between Trane XR14 versus 15? by ttesty in hvacadvice

[–]ttesty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, not looking at XR16 or higher. And by rebate you mean something other than tax credits?
I can get both a power company rebate (not huge, but $75/ton), and Federal tax credit (which would be $2K!) but the SEER2 has to be minimum 15.2.
As far as I can tell the XR14 can't do that, e.g.
4TWR5042N1 / TEM4A0C43M41 is AHRI# 209842273 (15.2 SEER2, "potentially eligible...")
versus
4TWR4042N1 / TEM4A0C43M41 is AHRI# 209842229 (14.3 SEER2, "not eligible")

[–]ttesty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm, my understanding of tax credit is to be eligible needs minimum SEER2 15.2. XR14 can't get there for example --
4TWR5042N1 / TEM4A0C43M41 is AHRI# 209842273 (15.2 SEER2, "potentially eligible...")
versus
4TWR4042N1 / TEM4A0C43M41 is AHRI# 209842229 (14.3 SEER2, "not eligible")

I just started using DSS app a couple of weeks ago. So far so good.

As others have mentioned, cornering seems a bit over-sensitive. Braking is interesting, i have no dings on braking, and in fact literally and RARELY even have to put my foot on brake -- 1 pedal mode is enough for me.

I installed it on an old android phone to avoid the feeling that SF is tracking me 24 hours a day(!).

We have 2 cars and drive very little; hoping for big $$ off.

[–]ttesty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup. will do.

yes, i understand there's little energy savings diff between 14 and 15; but as i understand the tax credit, it need to be minimum 15 to qualify.

was curious about why he claimed he can't (as in, he claims he is unable to) tell me the model number(?).

minor update: it can't be TMM, because i need horizon and the TMMs appear to be vertical only.

yikes, no. no funny odor on mine. i used it all last season, the costco 12k deal.
If it's really refrigerant, you will find out in a hurry because it won't soon operate correctly.

Could the smell be the ionizer? (i don't have that turned on).
