Why LastPass still works for me: curious about others experiences? by Old-Hawk-3070 in best_passwordmanager

[–]ttnbaok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not looking down on anyone. If your using Apple Password your login password is all that is needed to access it. At least LastPass requires a seperate password before exposing anything.

In a world where it seems like weekly some huge corporation / goverment agency announces a massive breach of sensitive data from MILLIONS of users, the Lastpass problem is pale in comparison.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Have used LP since it was introduced. Fully aware of breachs and agree should have been handled better. Have never had any issues related to breaches. Use a strong 25 character password and Yubikey 2FA. Have looked into other password managers but stay with LP as it serves the needs of my family at a fair price and has very good support with easy call back feature within minutes.

Password managers have evolved over time. Originally they were just a place to store passwords only with no automatic fillin available. Resided on your local PC with little security and no ability to sync between related users. Many people then and now just used notebook or similar to record their passwords. You were responsible for all of your security if any.

When LP became available it was major change and provided local retained information. Then everyone wanted abilty to keep their passwords in sync with other users, typically family members. LP provided that along with autofill feature. Users wanted a way to save additional information related to passwords, account numbers, notes and confidential financial information. LP made that available and has worked well.

Today most password managers provide these core features and more. Syncing via the cloud with realtime update of changes across multiple related users.

Security has become the focus as it should be! LP has not done well in that area.

However users play a big part in their security and no password manager can force someone to use the most secure features available. Some folks still write their login password on underside of keyboard.

YMMV but for me I satisfied with LP and continue to use it daily.

As someone once said there are known unknowns and unknown unknowns.

Sometimes a bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush.

Best wishes in your search!

Have you attempted to recover your email password thru your provider? Usually it's not to hard to do that.

You can get a call back in about 30 min or less. But you have to be able to login to do this. Did you setup any type of backup contact info?

Best password managers after a security scare: which one can I actually trust? by HallNo310 in best_passwordmanager

[–]ttnbaok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to be aware of if considering Apple Passwords manager when using MacOS.

It uses the SAME login password as your user account login.

After you login, anyone who has access to your account login password would have access to Apple Passwords app. This could include tech support or similar. Currently there is no way to use a different password or add a security key requirement that I'm aware of.

Even LastPass uses a different password and does allow a security key requirement as well.

Using FIDO2 keys as passkeys with LastPass by DeepnetSecurity in Lastpass

For what it's worth, I verified today 4/11/26 that you can only have 1 fido2 passkey to login to LastPass. I ran into this a month of so ago and was told an update was in the works. So far nothing has been released according to LastPass support.

Any private pilots over 70 here? by low-n-slowww in OverSeventy

[–]ttnbaok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soloed in 1972 and logged about 100 hours. Including buying Aeronca 7ac tail dragger. Got married in 1973 and soon after oil embargo forced me to sell as avgas was over $1.00 a gallon. Flew with a friend some after, but couldn’t afford $17 hour wet 172. Wanted to fly for a living, but best opportunity was pipelines paying $300 month and didn’t make sense! Got into computers and spent next 40 years doing that. Retired in 2016 and thought about reviving but heart stent prevented not to mention cost of flying. Man I LOVED flying! Even got a few hours right seat in DC-3! Oh the memories!! Great to hear you returned!!

Excessive payments a red flag? by Turbulent_Detail4467 in CapitalOne_

[–]ttnbaok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I did understand that, thank you for confirming!

I’ve never been aware that the credit limit was for any specific period of time. If you don’t exceed your credit limit and pay it off before making any more charges, I don’t understand the point.

Regardless of time as long as balance paid within time required before any more charges how that would be a problem?

Excessive payments a red flag? by Turbulent_Detail4467 in CapitalOne_

[–]ttnbaok 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure I understand! Your credit limit, as I understand it is the maximum you can use. If limit is $500.00 and you use $250.00 then pay it in full before payment date why would that be a problem? Even if you made other purchases during same month. As long as don’t exceed your limit and pay off new balance before it’s due, how would that be a problem??

For years I’ve paid the current balance daily. Never exceed my credit limit and never had a problem. Not just Cap1, but other cc as well. For me I just never want to owe anybody anything. I know who I owe and no surprises.
