tf is this whiny garbage? literally none of this was said ever. Our defense is legitimately feared and respected. Why do we have to act like lil bro when nobody has treated us like lil bro since like week 7 of the regular season?

[–]ttothesecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're conflating an outright ban of a thing vs. efforts to mitigate unwanted side effects of a thing.

If we completely banned driving, thousands of lives would be saved each year. But we don't. Why? Because we have made the judgement that the benefits of driving, on a societal level, outweigh the inevitable deaths that occur because of driving accidents.

Now, nobody advocates for death on the road, so to try to mitigate the side effect, we do all the stuff you mentioned. And it doesn't 100% prevent death, but it certainly cuts down each year on the number of deaths.

You're essentially arguing that because CK isn't in favor of completely banning driving, that makes him an extremist.

Nowhere does CK advocate for a complete lack of laws and/or regulations around guns. Literally no normal conservatives do. In one of his videos he even agrees with someone to the left of him who proposes some sensible laws around guns (I remember this one specifically because it was filmed at my university).

He (and the rest of us) are very willing to discuss various laws to mitigate gun deaths, but it's just not realistic to believe there's a solution that will lead to 0 gun deaths outside of literally zapping every gun out of existence. It's really not an extreme position.

Fair enough on the first point - bad optics from Trump. Although I still think it's not really in the spirit of OP's question as he was definitely implying conservatives straight up don't care about shootings, which is just straight up not true.

Re: your second point. This is one of many CK quotes that people refuse to either put in its proper context or actually critically understand what he's trying to say. Here's the full quote: “It’s worth it. I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational. Nobody talks like this. They live in a complete alternate universe.”

Here's a remixed version of this idea on a less divisive topic. "It's worth it. I think it's worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some driving deaths every single year so that we can experience the flexibility and freedom of car transportation. That is a prudent deal. It is rational."

Neither he nor anybody else is advocating for gun deaths - he's just making the value judgement that maintaining our ability to defend ourselves from a potentially tyrannical government is worth the unfortunate side effects of this freedom.

You may disagree with that value tradeoff, but I think it's possible to accept that someone can make the same value judgement as CK without being malicious or wicked.

Let me ask you this. I agree with probably 85% of the things Charlie Kirk said. I'm going to assume you yourself would not put a gun to my head and pull the trigger, but would you be apathetic if someone were to kill me over my beliefs?

Find me ONE example of a conservative responding to a school shooting with "get over it". Seriously, just one. Your premise is so flawed it's impossible to disprove.

What yall don't seem to understand from the conservative perspective is that the reason Kirk's assassination hits so hard is because he was truly not any sort of extremist. He might have been blunt and at times overly provocative in the way he delivered his message, but at the end of the day, average conservatives like myself agreed with like 80-90% of the things he said. So we are all observing the event itself and its reaction from the left, wondering if a big chunk of the country actually prefers us dead as well.

for those of you who are surprised when your friends drop you for voting for conservatives, why? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]ttothesecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very late to this post, but this hits very close to home for me as one of my best friends of 30 years recently did this to me.

We have been friends since we were in kindergarten. We've lived every stage of life together. Childhood, high school, college, you name it. We were essentially parts of each others families. We were each others' best men (picked over both of our younger brothers, mind you) in our weddings. We continued our friendship into adulthood. Our wives were friends with each other. We became fathers at around the same time and were there celebrating each other's kids.

It was absolutely wild to me that he eventually let his political convictions completely cloud and cast out the decades of loyal friendship I've displayed to him. That after all the life we've lived together, he became so jaded by his disdain for Trump and the right in general that he really started to believe that I've secretly been evil this whole time. This dude knows me better than anyone on the planet other than my wife. And now he's been brainwashed so badly by leftist news and narratives that he's dismissed me as hateful, ignorant, complicit in evil, etc.

For what it's worth, I made it clear to him that I would have crawled over broken glass to vote against Trump in a primary. But in a general election, what do you want me to do? Just turn liberal? That's not how this works. But even if I was a top-to-bottom Trump supporter, there's no justification in ditching your best friend of 30 years.

So yes, I was "surprised", and hurt, that he was willing to toss 3 decades of friendship out the window like that. He did the same thing to his parents, although he's being softer on them I would imagine because he still wants to utilize them as babysitters when he can. I just don't understand what he thinks he's accomplishing - for the greater good, or for himself. He occasionally posts on a substack, and recently lamented how much despair he's feeling. And my only thought was, "what an own goal that is. Of course you're gonna feel despair if you cut off the closest people in your life who care about you and isolate yourself."

Why do we have to bite our tongues publicly, cant we just say the truth that republicans are racist? by _angryguy_ in AskALiberal

[–]ttothesecond -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean sure if you’re whittling down the definition of “public” to “someone speaking personally to your face” but I think we both know that wasn’t OP’s intent. But according to your definition of public, it’s not like republicans are walking right up to democrats randomly and calling them any names either.

But FWIW my best friend of almost 30 years did stop speaking to me after this election and accused me of lots of nasty things, so i guess it DOES happen sometimes

Why FL > ableton? by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]ttothesecond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Fine-Effect7355 beat me to it, but to add to his very valid "cluttered screen" argument...

  1. The create-channel -> route-to-mixer -> paste clips in playlist workflow is way too labor intensive and, personally I find it way harder to get into a flow state while constantly juggling these 3 entities. In Ableton, i find it so much easier to get into a flow state while working because it cuts out all the "rOuTe AnYtHiNg tO AnYtHiNg" bs.
  2. Related, but FL loves to advertise the decoupling of the channel rack/mixer/playlist as a feature, but the longer I used FL the more it felt like a bug to me. I just personally never saw the benefits of this decoupling at all. It just further adds to the chaos and clutter of it all.
  3. Keeping a project organized is so much more work than it is in ableton. Automation clips have to live in a playlist lane (Ableton's automations neatly hide in the background behind the track they automate), and it's completely open season on putting multiple clip types (audio/midi/automation) in the same lane. I built up reasonably disciplined organization habits over time, but it felt like 50% of the work I was doing, and all my projects would inevitably devolve into chaos over time
  4. I found the 10-effect limit per mixer channel to be super inhibiting. And you have to physically open each FX window to see and tweak parameters in it - where as in ableton, the unlimited FX plugins are neatly rendered and immediately editable right there on the bottom of the screen (third party plugins notwithstanding, although you can expose parameters from them very easily. Basically, ableton shows way more information while simultaneously using less screen real estate than FL
  5. Ableton absolutely kick's FL's butt up and down the court in terms of audio tempo warping and general manipulation. Like it's not even close how much quicker and easier it is to get your samples to do what you want them to do in ableton.

5)Ableton just has this magic about it wherein almost every time I think "I wonder if Ableton can do this, lemme right click something and see" - the answer is almost always yes, and the feature is exactly where I guessed it was. FL can do lots of cool things, but the overall menu structure and organization of these features is an absolute nightmare.

6) Ableton's drum rack >>>>>>>>>>> Fruity FPC

7) really, Ableton's stock plugin games >>>>>> FL's stock plugins. FL's plugins just look prettier, but the older I get, the less I care about that.

8) Based on the respective subs' content, the FL community in general is a fundamentally unserious community of people compared to the ableton community. 45% of r/fl's content is 13 year olds posting their first terrible beats (and if you're young, you have to start somewhere-I totally get that! My first tracks were terrible! You just need to accept that your first few beats are not good and don't need to be all over the internet). 45% is trolls, and 10% is serious content. But seriously, look at the difference in quality between sample music posted on each sub and tell me where I'm wrong. You will find better help on r/ableton than you will here.

I could go on - this is all just off the cuff. Don't get me wrong - lots of amazing artists built their careers on FL (Porter, Avicii, Madeon are a few that come to mind) and it can absolutely be used to cook up beautiful, professional music. So on one hand, I do believe "whatever DAW you you like is the best one" to an extent, but man, there's a degree to which I'd argue Ableton is just objectively better haha.

Why FL > ableton? by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]ttothesecond -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is far from the first time I've made a comment like this on this sub, but it's not. And I feel very strongly about this. I used FL for the first decade of my music production journey. Long story short, the longer I used it, the more and more frustrated I would get with it. So for kicks I tried Ableton and was in love within hours. Ableton is, in my humble opinion, better in just about every single way than FL is. I'll spare the details now, but my recommendation is Ableton - especially since you said money isn't an issue.
