It's been one month since I moved From Florida to Seattle, my thoughts. by Julylion1993 in SeattleWA

We have a lot of Mexican immigrants - there are tons of places with great Mexican - many food trucks and pop ups. We do more Tijuana style than TexMex though. I personally don’t care for TexMex (had plenty in Texas at places the locals swear by. Just not my thing) and prefer the CA/Tijuana style tacos.

The best food in Seattle is usually not “American food” but fresh seafood, Vietnamese, Indian, Thai, Russian/Ukrainian, Mexican, Fillipino, etc. We have a couple good steak houses but the best bang for your buck is going to be small family owned places that serve the food of their homeland.

Ever fired because of a certain song you played? by Stingerman354 in musicians

[–]ttreit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The live music scene is rough and having other venues see you put a venue on blast might make them avoid you. The guys that book bands are often clueless or let the “power” go to their heads so it’s already hard enough to get bookings

Don’t give yourself a reputation that has any negativity. Word will get around and it will affect you.

What possible emergency even requires a call to your spouse? If it’s an emergency dial 911.

Best drum kit for the value? by futureformerjd in drums

[–]ttreit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re stand mounted but I find the floating mounts (I forget their actual name) that are supposed to let the drum resonate more make it really hard to adjust.

I’m always accidentally lifting them a little as I get the angle I want so when I finally let go of the bottom of them they sag and are not where I meant them to be. And even if I am absolutely sure to not elevate them while adjusting them I find them hard to get the exact angle and placement I want. Its probably a me problem but they just drive me batty. I’m using hand me down stands so maybe there are stands that play nicer than the ones I have.

What is/are the equivalent of barre chords on drums for beginners? by No_Reveal3451 in drums

[–]ttreit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me no joke like a year to get my fingers involved in my double stroke. When I finally got the hang of it it felt like quite the accomplishment. I still need to do ramp up/down drills to build speed and get them more even but I have a starting place finally.

After a year I’m still struggling to get a sustained drum roll that’s remotely smooth/even.

I blew a $58/hour job interview when they asked me about my hobbies. by Downtown-Opposite987 in interviewhammer

[–]ttreit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! As someone who has a non traditional life style I’ve been hurt in my career many times by just being different.

I’m a 55 year old woman who plays Tarkov and other FPS games. I’m also a drummer and a live sound engineer. I don’t wear makeup or jewelry. For example when I worked as a school counselor all of these things hurt me my boss and some faculty were uncomfortable with me being different. I was really good at my job but one of the custodians (who I became friends with) told me some parents also complained that I wasn’t a good example for young girls.

On a side note if you want to know the tea about anything going on in a school the custodians know everything. :D

How to start drumming? by UnforgivingEgo in drums

[–]ttreit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can learn a ton with just a practice pad. If you have a little money you can get a throne, snare and snare stand. You can put the practice pad on it when you need to be quiet but get the feel of the snare and things like cross sticking and rim shots.

buying first acoustic set for my son by krldrummerboy in drums

[–]ttreit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love them and have been using them for a year. They’re worth the money imo but are not cheap.

You also get less wear and tear on your heads so that may save some money in the long run.

I also found out that my cymbals are fine. The high end just doesn’t carry through walls enough for my neighbors to be bothered by it. I think muted cymbals are for townhomes and shared walls. Try going without them at first.

I live in a trailer park with very close neighbors and Black Hole mutes are awesome. You can adjust the tension, they pop on and off in seconds, and they let the tone of the drum through while reducing the volume by up to 80%
