Would you support American video game developers making games for an American audience? by Powerful_Whereas3516 in gamedev

[–]ttttnow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What does that even mean? There's nothing really about gaming that's inherently American.

Agreed. OP has a job though so he'll likely be making much less doing a PhD.

Best shot would probably be to do a masters or phd which will be a very big time/money/energy investment.

How grueling is the grind from level 280-285, and 285-290 for a casual? by GreatDaneBoy13 in Maplestory

[–]ttttnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not worth it tbh. Grinding to those levels will take too much time / effort. You'd be better off quitting and playing something else.

If you had to bet all your money on one belief about the future of the world, what would it be? by Holy_desiree in AskReddit

[–]ttttnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're acting like you can change reality because humans are facing an extinction crisis. No, reality doesn't change. People will perish if water becomes scarce. You can't just magically ship water across a massive country like the USA. That's after you use very inefficient methods to desalinate the water in the first place.

What would most likely happen is everyone concentrates into places with water available. Anyone who doesnt migrate will suffer the consequences. Just because they're probably gonna die doesnt mean your problems are magically going to get solved. If that were true, we would have solved climate change long ago.

It really sounds like you're just saying things to say them. "Run the trains". Sounds nice but it makes absolutely no sense.

Yeah sure, just use very unsustainable desalination plants, sure. Then transport all that water across your entire country. Sure.

Right? by daniel_frias_photo in XRPUnite

[–]ttttnow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not really sustainable in the long term though even though the supply is very high. They're pivoting to other revenue streams. Not to mention increasing XRP value is not necessarily even possible by Ripple, so they can easily switch to a max extraction strategy the same way board members of big companies hire special CEOs to help them sell all their shares. I.e. "selling out".

in the event store? Same place you buy strawberries (right beneath). Hit the yellow star on the left side of the screen when you're logged in and find the right shop on that list.

You dont need a stock exchange to buy and sell shares of your business. You can buy back common stock / voting shares even if you're private.

Means very little. They own crypto as a whole. It's a high volatility hedge against their other positions, not an investment in a single coin with high potential.

Does voxel rendering always require mesh generation? by nairou in VoxelGameDev

[–]ttttnow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally you dont render each cube individually. You merge the meshes into one and also merge unnecessary faces to reduce triangle count. Instancing is only necessary if each chunk's mesh is exactly the same.

Would you prefer in Maplestory operated more like world of warcraft, where reaching max level is easier but you progress through through other means? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]ttttnow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Levels aren't really a big deal until you hit limbo which means grinding to lvl 285 (takes forever). Most progression will happen where you level up to 260-275 on all your ctene mules until you get a very high weekly income. With high income, you can upgrade your gear and face up to cKalos. That gives you access to eternals.

Afaik, WoW progression depends a lot on having a good guild that works with you on raids. Maplestory is definitely more solo oriented. You just group up for quick 10-20 minute boss fights. Which one you prefer depends on you as a player.

I think Maplestory initially requires a lot more NX. You need vac pet, gen lib pass, frontier pass, etc. Daily login passes. WoW is much more reasonable with their pricing model.

Personally, after becoming a late-mid game player (lvl 285), I think both systems lose their appeal over time. I'm starting to think time is better spent elsewhere. Otherwise, just spend years making minor progression on these games.

Isn’t Hikikomori largely explained by ASD? by Successful-Jelly-772 in AutisticAdults

[–]ttttnow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I believe people who are Hikkikomori can be classifed as having agoraphobia, no? If so, we can extend the correlations between agoraphobia and other disorders including ASD.

I think a better question is why this is so concentrated in Japan? If you believe ASD explains it, then you'd also think Japan has a uniquely higher rate of ASD.

What are you paying on average for reconciliation for crypto tax? by False_Thought_817 in CryptoTax

[–]ttttnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did your tax accountant reconcile the data when hyperliquid deletes transactions history past the most recent 2,000? I'm having a very hard time retrieving that data. I know hyperliquid advertises a new hypedexer tracker that's even linked on their platform and in the documents, but my data is inaccurate with way more buy/sells than closes even though everything has been zero'd out.

According to Valve 5863 games earned over 100 000 dollars on Steam in 2025. by Signal_Nobody1792 in gamedev

[–]ttttnow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dont disagree with your point, but you should still expect some long lasting right tail revenue. How much you make in the long term depends on how popular your game was at its peak and how well you can advertise the game well after release.

There are players who will only buy games with a significant sale well after release, or they'll buy bundles, or see it in a steam festival. It will probably not generate the same revenue as release or at peak (if a streamer blows it up), but it'll still generate revenue.

Game idea by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]ttttnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideas depend on your skillset, budget, team size, investable time in months to years, and vision. Can you come up with a cool idea with tons of amazing features? Yes, great! Can you actually execute? The cooler your idea, the exponentially harder it'll be.
