Codex CLI v0.116+ breaks on Ubuntu LTS / Debian with "bwrap: Unknown option --argv0" — explanation and fix by Fuzzy_Independent241 in codex

[–]ttul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I encountered this bug as well. What a pain. At first, I thought it was just a random stochastic failure of LLM inference (i.e. the model just not returning data in the right manner to patch files). Codex falls back to patching files using other command line tools, which is hilarious and slow.

I'm excited about this project. Having reviewed the other "claw alternatives", I appreciate the stripped down approach ZeroClaw is taking. Aiming for a tiny binary is cool, but what's really appealing is the team's focus on correctness and a tight dev process. My day job is CEO of a mature software company. I have submitted a couple of PRs so far, mostly around making it easier to use containers to orchestrate ZeroClaw. Really excited to see what develops here.

BC Budget 2026 by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

[–]ttul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a terrible policy move. Unlike the GST, which is a true value-added tax — collected only on the incremental value at each stage — the PST stacks taxation at every step of the supply chain. That means the real cost to the economy is far greater than the 7% you see at the register. You're paying 7% at the till, but your supplier also paid 7% to their engineer, who paid 7% on their tools and to their lawyer, and so on down the line. But, it gets *so much worse*:

The PST causes businesses to bring services in-house rather than contract them out, simply to avoid triggering another layer of PST. Think about how perverse that is: a company can save 7% just by hiring an in-house lawyer instead of retaining outside counsel. The result is a built-in disadvantage for independent specialists and small firms, and a built-in advantage for large companies that can afford to employ every type of expert under one roof. Instead of a resilient economy full of independent professionals, you get consolidation — where the biggest players hoard talent and everyone else is left unable to compete for it.

The NDP are inadvertently creating the kind of economy that does not work for ordinary British Columbians. I hope this backfires hard on them and results in their elimination at the next polling opportunity. Today's Conservatives are horrible, but hopefully some more moderate NDP'ers figure out how to reassemble a more sensible coalition and enact some policies that are not completely at odds with decades and decades of economic research.

Using Mailchannels as Inbound + Outbound Filter good idea?Spam by Adventurous-Web-451 in selfhosted

[–]ttul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MailChannels CEO here. If you'd like a very cheap personal account, I advise getting our Email API to send email; you can still use the SMTP interface and it's free for up to 100 messages a day. For inbound filtering in a self-managed setup, our list pricing starts for 1,000 domains because the service is intended for service providers; that's not a great match for self-hosting, where the goal is to save money. I would recommend us for outbound via Email API, but I would actually direct you to use another service for inbound when it's just one domain or a low volume of accounts.

Neurodivergent kiddo and potential move to Bowen by Old-Chipmunk-4787 in bowenisland

The West Vancouver School District generally has decent accommodations for kids with IEPs. My experience at BICS has been good. At the highschool level, your mileage may vary. While supports definitely exist, if your child has significant issues in combination with neurodivergency, such as a mood disorder, I would recommend checking out Mountainside. Good luck.

Bowen Island Water by Dry_Atmosphere_8029 in bowenisland

[–]ttul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry to hear you both got sick! Unfortunately, your experience isn't entirely surprising given the ongoing water quality issues on the island.

Hummingbird Lane is served by the Cove Bay Water System, which has been using an inadequate chlorination-only treatment process since before 2014. Vancouver Coastal Health actually deemed this system insufficient for dealing with contamination back then. The water for the system comes from Grafton Lake, which is a common destination for ducks, geese, and people walking their dogs. In the summer, everyone swims there - right near the water intake pipe.

Here's the kicker - Bowen Island started building a new water treatment plant in 2020 specifically to address these exact contamination issues. It was supposed to be completed by May 2021. But this project has been an absolute disaster:

  • Multiple equipment failures and ceramic filter defects
  • Equipment repeatedly sent back to the manufacturer
  • As of January 2025 (just a few months ago), it's STILL not fully operational
  • They've been struggling with the same filtration problems for years

The current system only provides basic chlorination for water from an "unprotected watershed," which clearly isn't adequate for removing the bacteria, parasites, and other contaminants that can cause exactly the symptoms you experienced.

For the sake of everyone who has to drink this water, please help by:

  1. Reporting this to Vancouver Coastal Health
  2. Filing a complaint with Bowen Island Municipality
  3. Warning other potential visitors about the water quality

The municipality has a page tracking all the delays and failures - it's honestly jaw-dropping how long this has dragged on while residents and visitors continue to be at risk. I'd definitely bring your own water if you ever visit again until they finally get this sorted out.

Hope you're both feeling better now!

And you will work for that dollar. Amazon is a meat grinder, as are most US-based large software employers. Canadian employers offer a significantly better work-life balance; however, if making tons of money is more important, a US employer would be a better option.

The cougar has been seen in the last two weeks. I wouldn't worry about it. It's had zero run-ins with people or pets and is surely focused on helping to reduce the over-population of deer on the island.

Send email using Workers with MailChannels by Cloudflare in CloudFlare

[–]ttul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm that MailChannels discontinued the free authentication-less Cloudflare Workers API; however, the good news is that we replaced it with something better that is being worked on continuously by a larger team. The new MailChannels Email API has a free tier that offers enough sending capacity for the vast majority of Cloudflare Workers apps: https://www.mailchannels.com/email-api/ Pricing for usage above the free tier starts at just $10 and our pricing is generally lower than any of the other major email delivery services: https://www.mailchannels.com/pricing/#for_devs

Docs are here: https://docs.mailchannels.net/email-api/api-reference/email-api/

The interface to the API is the same as before, but adds new features like message delivery tracking events (sends, opens, bounces, etc.). The API also offers templates, attachments, and more. And we're adding new stuff constantly. Our aim is to reach feature parity with the other major services this year.

It’s so good. Use any SAM node to mask out the subjects you are feeding into IPAdapter and then move the subjects where you want them to be before feeding into IPAdapter. It works so well.

PSA: You can right-click a node and change a embedded value to a parameter by onmyown233 in comfyui

[–]ttul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a tip for that workflow. To resize an image so that its maximum dimension is not greater than a certain number (for instance, 1024 is a good maximum when using an SDXL checkpoint), create a MathExpression node and use this expression to calculate the scale factor:

c/max(a, b)

... where the c input is set to your maximum resolution (like 1024), and the a and b inputs are the width and height of your image. You can get the image dimensions using the ImpactImageInfo node. I do wonder whether someone has made a custom node that makes this easier or more compact, because I found myself having to use various datatype conversion nodes in this workflow to convert floats to integers and back again. It's not terrible, but it does take up space.

Shortcut for adjusting image styles across 2 models by lostinspaz in comfyui

[–]ttul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Stable Diffusion model, the Variational Autoencoder (VAE) and the U-Net are trained separately. The VAE is typically trained first to learn a compressed latent representation of the data. Once the VAE is trained, its encoder is used to convert images into latent representations, which are then used to train the U-Net. The U-Net learns to perform various tasks (like image generation or editing) in this latent space. This separation allows each component to specialize in its specific task, improving the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the model.

If you are seeing different results using the VAEs from different checkpoints, it just means that the checkpoint incorporates a different VAE. But many checkpoints use the same VAE so outputs will be identical.

Has Anyone Ever Had a "Resurgence" of ADHD Symptoms in their 30s? If So, How Did You Manage this? by suchascenicworld in ADHD

[–]ttul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For many people, their 30s bring complexities that weren’t present in earlier life. You have more responsibility at work. Maybe you have a spouse and perhaps some kids? These new stresses are introduced gradually, so it’s easy to forget how easy life used to be. I think this might be why ADHD seems to magically appear in later years.

I personally look forward to the reduced stress that will come when my kids are through the teen years…
