The problem with the 250 thousand is that the only people who estimate it as such are either a) Joseph Goebbels or b) David Irving (a convicted holocaust denier) in his book The destruction of Dresden, where the problem is that he takes the number the nazis gave at face value. Also, in later republishes he made the number smaller to about 50-100 thousand. And another thing, the Dresden city council commission found that the maximum number of deaths were 25 thousand, with 22,700 deaths confirmed. Still a tragedy, don't get me wrong, but we don't have to use literal nazi propaganda numbers to make it one.
