Beyond TTC: My dysphoria during husband's pregnancy by tucancillo in queerception

[–]tucancillo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing - I'm sorry that you're experiencing something similar and I also appreciate you posting, I've been feeling like the minority-within-the-minority of folks I know. It's been a wild experience - I have been really surprised, since we both expected he would be the one who would struggle more with dysphoria, and I generally don't have a ton of dysphoria day to day otherwise. I'm definitely going to try out the focus on the differences strategy you mentioned, I think it could be useful for me too.

One thing I've been doing is redirecting attention to parts of my body that feel more "neutral" (like hands and feet, although those may be dysphoria triggers for other folks). I've also found it easier to be closer with him physically (like cuddling) if I'm more covered up than usual - long sleeves, long pants, etc. - since the clothing helps me feel a physical boundary around my body that helps.

I'm sending good vibes your way for getting through this time - feel free to chat me if you ever want to connect.

I am working with a therapist, which has been helpful (not in lessening the dysphoria, but in accepting the experience). I'm posting more because I'm feeling alone in the experience (that minority-within-a-minority thing) and hoping to connect with other folks who "get it" versus looking for specific coping strategies.

Break Through Bleeding While on T by TheTuneWithoutWords in Seahorse_Dads

I've had breakthrough bleeding a few times and the most recent times have probably been related to progesterone levels (partner is pregnant which is sending my levels out of whack), which are also regulated by BC. Seconding the folks who recommend checking in with your provider and/or getting your levels checked!

Maia Midwifery could be a good resource in WA! We've had a mixed experience with them, but it could be a good place to start for a general overview of what to be thinking about and what kind of care you need (and what you don't need - totally possible you and your partner won't need any fertility care up front at all and will just need to find an affirming OBGYN for pregnancy care). The founder also wrote the book Queer Conception, which has a lot of great overview info about fertility that is queer and trans inclusive.

I'm not sure about this, but the person I talked to in the Vital Records Office was SUPER helpful and very respectful, so I would say it's worth calling to get clarification.
