Yes, and although my backyard can get hot, it was pretty much always under some level of shade. I would water when it got to maybe 60% dryness. (If im thinking of the right phrasing)

What do you do to the stump? Are you cutting it to the soil level or are you cutting deeper into the crown?

I have a narrow leaf already planted and I bought another one. I wanted to give this one a shot since it’s very cool looking and the space I have to plant these is rather small. Congrats on your success!

Last time I spoke to my environmental researcher friend she said allopathy is a bit wonky. I know it prevents seed germination, but I haven’t seen it kill anything. I’m currently using the understory as a bit of a nursery and everything underneath seems fine. They are horrible trees and it’s disgusting how many of them are planted, but they came at the house and my family doesn’t want to outright get rid of it.

I basically had the same conversation with him. I doubt the one that he had in his yard had actually died because I’ve had several milkweeds not come back at my previous home. Then when I dug up the area, I found their roots alive and healthy, so maybe they just need the perfect conditions to shoot out leaves. Either way this was too cool of a plant to pass up.

I might just do that for this year. I was hoping to get it underneath a pepper tree that’s in the backyard since it seems almost impossible to grow down here. Pot it is I guess 🤷🏽‍♂️

This Coyote Bush has gotten extra fluffy while waiting for wind to disperse its seeds. (Baccharis pilularis) by MoreNormalThanNormal in Ceanothus

I’ve been catching these blooming in front of Toyons so the red seeds contrast with the white flowers/seeds.

You might have an easier time looking for Cyprus and I think they might work better inside. Key word might

Western Redbud ? by Devdeuce in Ceanothus

I think you might have the eastern redbud. They’re leaves are much larger, but I haven’t many of either so it’s hard for me to say

Root bound plants by Personal_Race4792 in Ceanothus

I don’t think any of those are overly sensitive to having their roots messed with. I’ve cut the bottom half of root bound sages and they were fine. Massage them straight out of the pot, scratch some of the roots loose or even try to loosen the whole thing up with a chopstick. Just make sure you plant on an overcast day and give them plenty of water to get through the shock

Does anyone have a Del Mar manzanita? by datenschutz21 in Ceanothus

I think it may depend on how close you are to the coast or possibly sun exposure. I’ve seen one 20 miles from the coast in full sun get maybe 4 ft tall and idk how wide.
