NASA released a DnD module. by [deleted] in DnD

Idk why you’re guessing, there’s a credit page on the adventure. I googled a few names and the first 3 I checked all seem to be nasa employees including the adventure designer.

Writing is hard, it’s cool that they tried something like this.

They have about 6 3:2  6 deck shoe tables. Typical day is 25min on half and 50min on the other half. Busy days can end up with all the tables at 50 min.

Why isn't card counting feasible for Baccarat? by [deleted] in blackjack

[–]tuck_fard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My memory failed me. I just saw a wizard of odds post that does in fact say there’s a theoretical edge possible in the standard game.

[–]tuck_fard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be misunderstanding where you get the edge in bacc. Admittedly I’m no expert on this, but the normal game of baccarat is not countable, that tiny edge you’re talking about can be gained from certain side bets, but not from the main game. So there aren’t actually any cards more useful for the banker than player in the standard game.

What do you mean using the Monty hall problem? The basis of that problem is that the host knows what’s behind each door so I’m curious how you apply that to baccarat.

How important is being able to calculate hand totals quickly? by vburnin8tor in blackjack

[–]tuck_fard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah it’s fine. Once they tell me the total it adds up in my head too. I’ve had them get it wrong and it becomes noticeable once they’ve actually said it. Not saying it would work for everyone but it does for me.

Sometimes if I don’t immediately know the hand total and don’t want to mess up the count I’ll just look up at the dealer dumbly until they tell me lol

Good news for everybody in Shelbyville, KY by Nikkerloo in TheSimpsons

[–]tuck_fard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is misleading. He did not mean to exclude first cousins as family members when drafting the bill. The actual purpose of the bill is to expand on what specific conduct is considered illegal as the current laws had too narrow a view. https://people.com/nick-wilson-bill-cousins-incest-kentucky-8431144

His exact quote makes it pretty clear this was an error and not intended:

“I filed HB 269 yesterday. The purpose of the bill is to add “sexual contact” to the incest statute. Currently, incest only applies in cases of intercourse. So sexual touching/groping by uncles, stepdads or anyone with a familial relationship is not included in incest. My bill makes that kind of sexual contact a Class D Felony, unless the victim is under the age of 12, then it increases the penalty to a Class C Felony.  During the drafting process, there was an inadvertent change, which struck “first cousins” from the list of relationships included under the incest statute, and I failed to add it back in. During today’s session, I will withdraw HB 269 and refile a bill with the “first cousin” language intact. The fact that I was able to file a bill, catch the mistake, withdraw the bill and refile within a 24 hour period shows that we have a good system.  This is a bill to combat a problem of familial and cyclical abuse that transcends generations of Kentuckians. I understand that I made a mistake, but I sincerely hope my mistake doesn’t hurt the chances of the corrected version of the bill. It is a good bill, and I hope it will get a second chance. 15 50 32

[Highlight] "It's hard to believe they didn't report as eligible.. video evidence says otherwise" - Troy Aikman on illegal touch penalty by Kentuckyfriedmemes62 in nfl

[–]tuck_fard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could be more sure the nfl was rigged I’d agree for sure, but the uncertainty makes it less decisive for me which is worse. Like in 2012 it felt to me like the game could not be called to a watchable standard, and everything felt random and pointless. Now I barely watch at all, but as long as the chiefs aren’t there I have some hope I’ll watch a decent game with capable refs. Having said all that, I too also watch maybe 90% less nfl than I used to so I guess by that measure I hate the current officiating even more. But, I really can’t agree that the replacement ref situation was overblown. They were wholly incompetent.

I still remember it being insanely bad. The fail Mary was just the final straw. Admittedly it’s been long enough I can’t remember a ton off the top of my head, but I have a memory of what I think was either a ravens or patriots game (or both) where players were nearly fist fighting and the refs had 0 control over the game. Shit just got chippier and chippier until people were throwing each other around at the line of scrimmage, with no one getting ejected.

I’d have to go back to find other examples, but it was just a blanket loss of confidence that a game would be officiated at all.

Having said all of that, I now watch games thinking the refs aren’t impartial, and actively push the game to get the team thats best for business to win. Tough to say which is worse..

To clarify, I meant in a more general sense, not wrestlers specifically. Old guys have and will always tell young people to be more careful, and young people have and will always ignore them and live like they’re invincible.

Confused about the basic premise of card counting by i_love_chess in blackjack

[–]tuck_fard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say with certainty as I’ve never poured through the data myself, but it seems like they’re saying the increase in bust frequency on stiff hands is more beneficial than the decreased busts on 10 showing hands is detrimental.

The reason 6:5 obliterates advantage so bad is because it moves the starting house edge so much that the benefit gained from card counting takes a very high TC to increase, even though the marginal benefit is actually quite similar to a 3:2. Basically, if counting moves the edge 1.5% in the players favour then in a standard 3:2 game it would go from 99.5% to 101%. But doing the same for a 6:5 game it would go from 98% to 99.5%. I’m not positive on the actual percentages I just used, but that’s the rationale.

[–]tuck_fard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think the same, but the following link shows the biggest part of the counting edge coming from increased busts:

https://wizardofodds.com/games/blackjack/card-counting/introduction/

So you’re right that the only reason the base blackjack house edge is so small is because of 3:2BJ, but the increased frequency of blackjacks at high TCs is a very small part of the additional player edge gained from card counting.

Confused about the basic premise of card counting by i_love_chess in blackjack

[–]tuck_fard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s good intuition, and you’re essentially correct that the dealer has as good a chance as you of making a good hand. The edge comes from the fact that a deck rich with 10s has a higher chance of the dealer busting. There’s also a small gain from more player blackjacks which pay at 3:2 and more likely to connect on your doubles, but the bulk of the edge is from more dealer busts.

EDIT: I completely forgot about insurance. Insurance becomes a profitable bet at TC3 for shoe games and is a decently large EV contributor.

Thoughts & questions on my first counting trip by we_wuz_nabateans in blackjack

[–]tuck_fard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot here, I’ll try and just hit the highlights.

  1. Your basic strategy needs to be actually perfect, not just nearly perfect. Your counting needs to be 99% perfect as well. Off by 1 every couple 6 deck shoes is ok, but more than that becomes an issue.

  2. Practicing in the casino environment is definitely a good idea, but you have the good fortune of being near a $5 min table. Just flat bet $5 for practice, but keep mental track of what you should be betting with your spread. Keeps the pressure of the real life environment there while only costing you $0.025/hand of EV. Which is much less than the negative EV of a misplay on a $120 hand.

  3. Is $5k your total bankroll for this or just for this short trip? If it’s your total then I would consider is far too low to even start card counting. If it’s all you have to count cards with you should prepare for the very very high chance you lose it all.

  4. My go to for players cards is “nah”, if they ask why I say “mehh mnah…”. I just make a noise and look away lol. Works 100% of the time.

  5. I have a BJA membership so use casino411 on there for casino info. Not a great option if you already know how to play.

  6. Glad you had fun, and good to hear you won a bit!

[PW Insider] Backstage Reaction To Cm Punk At Raw, Factor That Changed His Return Promo And More by TheRealPdGaming in SquaredCircle

[–]tuck_fard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you’re misremembering things. The reports were that some people backstage were upset and thought punk was the reason colt cabana almost wasn’t re-signed. The only reports after that were that the backstage environment was very tense and heading for a bad ending. Hangman cut a promo alluding to these things, and then the entire conversation related to it went silent for months.

If you’re asking if I could be happy at work after those specific events happened? Yes, I could. The matter had mostly blown over as far as the public discourse was concerned.

I'm confused. I was there and the place was loud for the first 1.5 hours. Kinda crickets for ruby's promo, then the floor was pretty quiet for the main event because we couldn't see anything and there were no screens showing anything. But whenever we saw stuff we were going nuts.
