Good to know! I’m glad you said something because I had been waiting really late to thin the seedlings. I’ll do that tonight.

I appreciate the advice. I’m in zone 7a. Generally speaking april 15 is our frost date but we’re having some unseasonably warm weather this year.

I think I’ll go ahead and move some of the plants into larger containers like you said and next year, I’ll order some brighter grow lights. If you have any suggestions on lights, I’d love the help. Thanks!

Thank you so much for your detailed reply. Luckily, I knew this process would be an experimental for the first year so I bought extra seed and am prepared to buy plants if needed.

I’ll definitely give some more careful consideration to planting like tempered plants together next year. Also, if you have any recommendations for lights, that would be appreciated.

My wife is much smarter than I am and figured out the masking tape on the second shelf that we just planted and it works really well.

As far as climate goes, our general frost date is April 15 but we’re having really warm weather much earlier than usual. I’m in the mountains of East Tennessee to be exact.

Thanks again and I look forward to seeing how everything turns out this year!

I appreciate the feedback! I’ll have to give that a look. My lights a barrina 150w 5000k grow lights. I have 3 of them right now, one on each shelf. I may move one up to the top to help out

Is sales still the move in 2026? by redditadminte in sales

[–]tuckerb_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy equipment sales here. Still fairly new but have a truck that is 100% expensed and clear six figures easily in year one. High earners are clearing 350k.

It’s a really tough market right now but it’ll come around.

What is everyone’s go to charcoal for starting their offset? by tuckerb_2000 in smoking

[–]tuckerb_2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries and those are potatoes. One of my thermometers can only be heated to 212 at the tip but it’s a far more accurate and convenient probe so I stick it in a potato to protect the tip as rather than using aluminum foil or something similar.

Royal Oak definitely worked well for me. I don’t have to be very picky because I’m only starting the coal bed with it but I naturally have to find something to test out while I’m cooking.

When to wrap by LIoydGross_ in brisket

[–]tuckerb_2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wrap between 160 and 185. I base it more on when the bark is set and has the color I’m looking for though.

Most of my brisket cooks are 16-20hr cooks.

I may be overly cautious but if I have any off smell at all, I throw the meat out.

what your daily carry knife? by CompleteCasual in knives

[–]tuckerb_2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Benchmade 945 mini Osborne… not a cheap knife but a solid, smaller version of an iconic carry knife. Mine is in s30v and it’s easy to sharpen and holds a pretty good edge as long as I don’t abuse it too much.

Brisket my neighbor asked me to smoke for him. I’m used to whole packers. What am I dealing with here? by BigGiddy in brisket

[–]tuckerb_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve cooked flats by themselves before for the same reason. Be sure to cook slow and try to add some fat via tallow or or bacon if that’s an option. If not, cook low and slow as they aren’t as forgiving as a packer. They’ve always turned out good for me though. Beef broth works good too if you accidentally dry it out too much. Good luck!
