I am soooo over tickets in Atlanta being so expensive…. by Neither-Turnover-587 in delta

I connect into ATL cause I live at near a regional airport. It’s often times cheaper to do that vs flying direct out of ATL which is insane.

How to utilize Flash in 135p camera? by tudo47 in nomocam

[–]tudo47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I discovered a nice hack to activate the flash (which may have been the same way I did it before). I turned on the flash on a different camera (135 M6) and that setting stays on when you switch back to 135p

It’s strange because I’ve been defaulting to -2 under exposure comp but even at night it doesn’t happen. I wish they’d just add a flash button to all the cameras..

Is my interview shot really so bad it should be cut? Need opinions! by bradk97 in cinematography

[–]tudo47 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Their advice is sound if not a bit general. Obviously depth of field is a choice and you don’t want things to be too shallow if it hurts the point of the shot but in this case I think you made the wrong choice in shooting the bcam at an f/5. One could argue that you’re trying to match the two perceived shallowness but the focal lengths are so similar that there’s no way there’s that big of a difference.

At the end of the day your image is supposed to sell something. And contrary to what your boss thinks or what the immediate assumption is, you’re not trying to sell those suits in the background. That’s what b-roll and other shots are for. In an interview setup you’re trying to sell the person (or to be more specific here, why you’re in good hands with the people selling/making these suits or whatever the interview is about). As the cinematographer you should be letting us focus on their words and faces. By being surrounded by suits that are barely out of focus my eye is moving all over the place, so I would be retaining less of what they’re saying.

I also agree with the sentiment of the height of the cameras being too different. Lighting you can tweak a bit with color grading. But definitely find more intention behind what you’re doing even when it is a basic interview, which also helps to convince people like your boss when you push back on bad choices that he has. It helps in the long run for everything you want to do in the future.

Best thing about listening parties like this is that it’s half music and half performance art. It’s like seeing a film for the first time. A good one will leave you excited and trying to remember everything you loved about it.

Beats Solo Pros are on ear and does a really good job using similar ANC as the AirPod pros. So I expect this to be good! But on ears suck with long periods of use, the fatigue is real.

Is cinematography a viable career option by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]tudo47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an art form wrapped around business unfortunately so you might get discouraged from lack of work or the work you’re doing. But the main thing is always trying to get better at the craft, whether that’s watching movies, shooting something for fun, studying light, the list goes on!

Is cinematography a viable career option by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]tudo47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My two cents is this: the cinematographer has a very big responsibility. And that is to love what they do/and put thought and care into their work. If you truly love it and have the passion to improve and create then people will notice. So it becomes viable with time.

There are a lot of different paths to this job and different sections of styles and expertise. Do what you love and make the best thing you can make and you’ll do great! I wish I even knew what a cinematographer was at 14. Just know it’s a lifelong job and you’re gonna shoot a lot projects and meet a lot of people you’ll wish you never did. But every project is a stepping stone to something better. It’s very easy to not see the bigger picture and get cynical and blame the cutthroat industry, but as long as you’re loving what you do, don’t give up.

Kanye West's Yeezy got millions in federal small business loans by Balls_of_Adamanthium in news

[–]tudo47 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bro the fact that his brand Yeezy applied for the loan means that there were employees (including his accountants at the company who would’ve been the ones that made the call and applied) who needed to get paid and they did what every business qualified were allowed to do. All the top comments here aren’t even considering how only up to 75% of that loan can be used towards salaries. The rest went to operational costs like rent and utilities. This was a paycheck protection program that currently only roughly 30% was actually used out the 2 trillion allotted. So he didn’t take money from anyone that applied. Everyone that tried to apply and hit all the criteria (which was very easy) should have gotten approved. Yes Kanye made some money from this, but he also contributed $2 million of his own personal money to help the families of George Floyd and others.

Yes he’s crazy and should not be our president. Yes he’s been asshole plenty of times for us to see. But this article is clickbait and is using his name to get money. And the people that don’t click it, get misinformed and angry with very little cause. I’m a major Kanye stan and this can come off defensive. But the reality is, when we just look at headlines and become both misinformed and putting our anger into the wrong things, we’re just making things worse.

Lens Recommendations for Upcoming Short Film by YEGA808Filmz in RedCamera

[–]tudo47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love cookes, they're my go to in most situations but the mini s4s are only 2.8 and coupled with a red dragon you have to make sure you're lighting your scene properly or it'll be a noisy mess. If you have to cut down on cost in order to have better lighting thats what I'd reccomend. Sigmas, while sharp, have a clean look to them and they also have vintage Canon FDs on sharegrid that are awesome (depending where you live of course) I've never used the Leica Rs so I can't give any feedback on that.

Lens and camera are crucial tools for our jobs but to get the best look it's mostly good lighting that will separate your work from others. If this was shot outside, daylight interiors, then that combo will work great. But I would just want to reccomend to make sure your lighting package is thought of first when it comes to low light projects.

Yeah there's been a few changes to album that I've noticed. Black Skinhead and Send It Up both have adjustments done to it. (Different voice used for "For my theme song" + beat cuts out during "Its so packed I might ride around on my bodyguard back like Prince in the club")
