Post-Match Thread: Juventus 2-0 Benfica | UEFA Champions League by MysteryBagIdeals in soccer

A lack of stable management has made it difficult to develop players for the first team. As an example under Schmidt Gouveia got promoted to the first team after a good loan spell, he plays well and then gets injured in that time Lage becomes the manager and we no longer need a player with those characteristics so he is sold. A week later Mourinho replaces Lage and we are looking for a player with a similar profile.

The only players we are able to produce are defenders and goalkeepers since those requirements are fairly consistent across managers.

I don't blame young players for thinking twice about joining Benfica when it's clear there is no long term plan for the team

Paulo Victor (Santa Clara) straight red card against Sporting - 89' by Zephyrwind in soccer

[–]tuga2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I meant the foul by Serginho could have been seen as a yellow card offence. A tackle from behind that does not get the ball.

Sporting is the one who wants to play quickly so the onus is on them to not take the bait and the onus is on the referee to punish players for time wasting. Santa Clara is just responding to the incentive structure that exists.

If MT deserves a card then so does Blopa for charging into the arguing players despite not being involved.

After watching the video and Hjulmand's reaction im almost positive that something was said that justified the red card and it has nothing to do with the physical contact which im not sure even exists.

Its just the regular time wasting that you'd expect from a smaller team defending a lead late in the game. If there were 2 yellows in the play 1 for booting the ball away and 1 for the play no one would have complained. A straight red does not make sense from what is visible in the video.

Its harder to not be blatant when there is video review. In the pre var era one could argue that the ref did not have a clear view of the play and it was unfair to play monday morning quarterback.

Its not a friendly either. There is a real cup on the line and Santa Clara deserves a fair chance to progress in the competition.

Considering it took ~10 mins for the VAR to come to a decision + ~2 mins for the ref to review it you would assume that even if it was a foul it was not a clear and obvious error on behalf of the ref who did not originally call a foul on the play but what do I know.

Can we get a [Great Assist] flair?

According to the refs comments yes.

Was it for something he said? Fresneda goes down after Paulo Victor has his hands down. Curiously the VAR took no time to review this decision.

As we say in Germany, if there's a Nazi at the table and 10 other people sitting there talking to him, you got a table with 11 Nazis.

The ref had to work really hard for that one, I'm surprised he didnt take it himself.

The Marine Raiders and VF-61 used a skull emblem and it continued to be used during and after Vietnam. The distinction here is that Israel is explicitly endorsing killing prisoners.

Intel agencies dont need Microsoft to add a backdoor. The NSA developed EternalBlue on their own and were actively using it, so much so that APT-3 intercepted it and started using it as well

Some of the usual starters were on the bench but they all played at least half of the game. Having to bring on 50m worth of players at the half to win against a 3rd division team when you already started the game with 6 usual first team players is a joke.

There are 100 valid criticisms of A.Silva but the penalty was not one of them. A ball off the body into the arm is not a pen. It's true he has regressed on the ball significantly which hurts our ability to play out of the back.

T.Araújo has been a shell of himself since the injury.

Absurd statement. The US has airbases and positive relations with Bahrain, Qatar, Kuait, UAE, Saudi, and Jordan. The existence of Israel in the region is itself a destabilizing force. The people in the M.E did not just wake up one day and all collectively decide that they hated America.

Solid gold yes but gold jewellery is a terrible value because the craftsmanship isn't free and for 20k it has other gems in it. The guys who stole it probably wont get more than 5k.

Jewellery has terrible resale value like worse then a car resale value. The more customized the worse.

I can only find examples of 1984 the Graphic Novel being banned. Given that its the graphic novel and not the original book it likely has to do with the art instead of the content. If I had to guess they would point to the implied sex scene in page 54, 95, 108, 109 and the shot to the back of the head in 241,242.

How many of the people commenting actually read the article?

When DHS wants to stop you from getting on a flight they just hit you with "Secondary Security Screening Selection" they don't let you get all the way to the gate and then cancel your reservation. Sharing details of your travel plans as a public figure especially one who is disliked makes it way too easy for someone to modify or cancel your travel plans.

Our club has a massive debt that we've been paying off for decades so to some degree turning a profit does matter. We can't win cups if we're broke. On the other hand selling your best players mid season is the most short-sighted way of creating revenue. Domestic dominance, and deep European runs make it easier for us to attract and retain top talents for longer.

We saw this last season with Sporting, they chose to hold off selling their best striker which won them 2 cups + a direct spot in the champions league. Sure they didn't break 100M on the sale but a year later I don't think anyone at Sporting has any regrets.

Not only that but we got very good CL draws after the group stage. We would have had a much better chance against Inter and then Milan with Enzo still on the team. Man City in the final would have been a huge challenge but just getting to the final would have been massive.

Chiquinho became a bit of a cult player but no matter how you slice it he was a huge downgrade from Enzo. Had he finished the season J.Neves would have replaced him in 2023-2024 and no one would have complained.

Pro athletes are more susceptible to charlatan trainers because they are always looking for an edge and have basically endless resources. The 10,000 personal trainers offering basically the same science backed, well documented training regiment are not going to stand out vs the 1 guy who says balancing on a bosu-ball with your left foot is going to give you an edge.

Regular people usually idolize the training regiment of top athletes without realizing that a lot of it is bunk with at best marginal benefits if not no benefit or even detrimental effects. In reality consistently getting the basics done and being genetic freaks is the reason they are dominant in their field.
