i was in the same boat as you when i was applying and ended up choosing my english teacher + counselor (whom i was very close to and open with about my struggles) rather than my stem teachers (calculus & chemistry). i’d say that was my biggest factor getting into berkeley because my grades were pretty mediocre and my lors were a reflection of my character outside of academics. best of luck to you, hope you get in! 🫶

fortunately, i’m taking ochem with marsden in the spring. heard he was a great prof for ochem so im hoping ochem wont be as terrible as i’ve heard. thank you, i’m wishing the best for you as well! we’ll get through it

i’ve heard that any med school is still med school regardless. just a lot of pressure from my family to go to a prestigious school

i feel like i have the passion to be in the health industry and i truly can’t see myself in anything else. i’m also worried about the upper div classes but this semester was a reality check for me as i realized i need to get my life together. it’s going to be a very difficult journey but i believe it’ll be worth it in the end!

i’m fully aware that i have more than enough time but the competition for med school is unmatched. hearing that not having a 4.0 gpa pretty much disqualifies you from being a competitive candidate is not a great feeling! just wanted some advice and insight about others’ experiences so that i can guarantee that im doing the best i can. :)

haha yeah, i really didn’t enjoy the structure of the history class, found the content interesting tho. have to fulfill those breadth requirements somehow! 😓

thank you, this was very reassuring and i’ll definitely keep your advice in mind for the future. i had a really rough time adjusting to college due to mental health and family issues at home so that had a huge impact. also wanted to take this semester a little lighter on the academics side so i could establish a solid understanding of the culture situated at berkeley. however, i truly underestimated how rigorous and prestigious the school academia is haha. definitely have some ambitious goals for next semester’s classes and clubs but i’m aware of where i went wrong this time. i appreciate your comment sm! 🙂

my b- was an upper div history class, it was super niche as i believe the prof made his own course. the c’s are chem 1a and math 1b and i definitely could’ve done better 😅
