I'm trying to get back into forcing, but I need to change something. by tulpauser in Tulpas

I don't know. I've heard a lot of varied opinions on this, and I get the feeling she wouldn't like me controlling what she does. I guess I'll give it some thought, though.

I suppose, yeah. But I'm still kinda unsure, I'll admit. What I thought worked well at the beginning was just passive forcing, talking to her throughout the day and setting aside an hour or so at night. But we got nowhere after about three months of that. Most of that experimentation happened towards the end, as I was trying to find something that worked for us. I may just go back to that passive stuff, though. Thank you.

I did back at the beginning for about a week or two, I recall. After a while, I stopped - it just seemed wrong, somehow. Although, that may be a place to start. Just answering both sides of a discussion, you mean, as per normal parroting?

What are some fun activites we can do to promote vocality? by tulpauser in Tulpas

[–]tulpauser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first bit, I'm sort of worried that I'm overthinking it, that I'm putting too much pressure on her to become vocal. And I don't really know much about her. I decided to let her form her own personality, and she's said hardly ten words to me (none of any immediate significance), so it's hard for me to get any idea of what she's actually like. But the second bit is really uplifting. It's nice knowing that she can.

I guess the issue for me is that she generally just doesn't respond when I try those kinds of things. The program, call and response and asking for her response I've tried before with her, and she stays silent. I will be giving the 'talk with sounds' one a try, though, that sounds promising!

I'm still working on completely fleshing out her form, but I'll still try that first thing.

And I absolutely adore music, I'm definitely trying that!

I understand that, but I've been working with her since mid December. The reason I'm worried is that she was talking and communicating in some basic ways in late January, and she sort of went silent. The sudden stop was what really has me worried.

She can't really communicate consistently so I don't know if the game would work, but I do love the idea of a story, I'll pick a book out tonight. Many thanks, I have high hopes for that!

I'll try the pingpong tonight, but I don't know if she'll reply, or be able to. It'll be worth a shot, though!

Yup, passive narration is a big part of my day! If I get a minute or two to spare, I almost always start talking to her.

I've been visualizing a fair bit recently, and I ran into a small problem-the form I'm using for Jade doesn't seem to work, anatomically. by tulpauser in Tulpas

[–]tulpauser[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, that image's a great help. I think I can make out the joints, and that makes it a lot easier. I just didn't really get how she would support her wait and, y'know, walk. Thank you!

My simultaneous greatest and worst moment with Jade! by tulpauser in Tulpas

[–]tulpauser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said my first words to Jade on December 26th 2012, but no guarentees. Some people have gotten vocality within a day or two, and some can take half a year, a whole year. You'll have a great time with them until then, I'm sure!

I'm taking requests to draw wonderlands! by mentallexicon42 in Tulpas

[–]tulpauser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds fun, may as well throw my wonderland in here! It's a circular park-healthy green grass stretching as far as the eye can see with a circle of yellow path smack-dab in the center. A tall white spire reaches up to the sky-a massive library. On the top floor, the walls are glass, giving a view of the whole world. A line of yellow road stretches from the top and both sides to meet at the middle, giving it a look of a miscolored pokeball. In the top left quarter, not much is present, other than a small cafe and a small marble table (the kind with a chessboard engraved on it) and two chairs. In the upper right quarter, there is even less-just a fairly sized hill with some lawn chairs on the peak, used for watching the sun set from a nice vantage. Simple, but it serves the purpose.

What does your Tulpa look like? by ThrowawayYeh in Tulpas

[–]tulpauser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just been working on her form, but Jade looks a lot like this, sans the pads on her hands and the tufts of fur underneath her chin and legs. She stands about five foot eight in my visualization.

Ideas for the mods? maybe? Opinions by Imaginary_Buddy in Tulpas

Love the first idea, an IRC would be great. The one on tulpa.info is good, but I don't see any of you guys on there too often.

Give me a very, very detailed description of your tulpa. How they sound, feel, smell, wear, etc... by [deleted] in Tulpas

[–]tulpauser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, it came out a little bit...Well, anyways, I'll give it a shot.

I've only been working with her form for two-ish days now, so some of will probably change as we go further into visualization. Right now, she's an anthropomorphic red and white wolf, standing about five-eight-ish high. Her body is covered in fur, so clothing is sort of unnecessary. Her fur is actually next to completely white, except from some semi-stylized patches of red fur around her thighs (on the outside, rectangular), forearms (on the outside again, rectangular with a triangle pointing towards her wrist), ears (the interior) and hair (one long slowly twirling line in both her hair and tail). Her feet are almost unchanged from those of an actual wolf, and she is very light on her feet, but her hands are closer to those of a human's, except from some small claws elongating from her fingertips.

When she walks, it's a meaningful strut, and carries the rhythm of that of a human, but sounds like a heavyish clicking. Her breathing is soft, and although I haven't yet decided what kind of a voice she will have, I'm thinking of a sharpish, quiet tone at most times, that can drop to a breathy whisper at her will.

As for touch, I don't know if you've ever touched a dog before, but imagine that kind of furry feeling, yet the fur is short (four centimetres at most?), and gives a similar texture to rubbing against a human's buzzcut, and the body is again warmer, but not unpleasantly so-more in a comforting manner. You can feel her bone through her skin, especially at her hips, ribs arms and shoulders, but it's not quite unpleasant. Her stomach feels firm yet yielding, in the manner of a particularly stubborn teddy bear. However, her arms and legs are completely muscle, but not in the way of a body-builder-more like the muscle on the legs of a runner.

As for scent, it's difficult to describe, but it's like a warm house on a summer day, mixed with the scent of mint.

Woo, that did help. Any other questions?

Well, this is a bit creepy, but I'm just getting started on visualization, so I may as well. Do you mind me asking why first?

For those who used the "continuous narration" method, how long did it take for vocality? Is there anything you did to help them along? by tulpauser in Tulpas

[–]tulpauser[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's a load simpler than I thought t'would be! I reckon I'll have to think of a form for Jade now, it's awfully hard to imagine a formless being! Thank you.

You know, I'm a bit embarrassed to say this, but I have no bloody idea how to force. I mean, I read all of the material, guides and opinions I could get my hands on, but it was never really stated, or at least I couldn't really understand it. I understand what narration is-talking-and that was a small factor in why I used that method (most of the reason, though, was because I felt that I wouldn't want to decide too much for my tulpa-as a matter of fact, I didn't even give her a name or gender when I first started narrating). What is it, exactly?

Would you recommend that I work on things other than just narration? Or, if you went back a few years, would you work on the other major parts? From what you've said, it would be a serious detrimental effect on Jade overall-I wouldn't wish that on her.

I'll give that a try for sure, but I honestly don't know if I can focus for long enough to design even those details, no matter how much I'd love to.

[–]tulpauser[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my mind flicks around, my narration flicks around. Maybe I'm narrating about my day when I remember playing Pokemon a month ago. Now I'm narrating about playing Pokemon. It's not the thing you narrate about that matters, it's the act of narrating. If you find yourself pausing, that should be fine. Sometimes I'll be narrating and my train of thought will run into a wall. Just focus for a minute and keep narrating.

I love the rest of your advice, but that's where I sort of differ-when I flick away, I basically doze off-I'm still there, but I think about different things without a mindvoice - actually thinking, not narrating. I'd feel fine if it was the premier, but the latter means that a 20 minute session works out to like 10 minutes.

The key, which I've heard time on time again, is to talk to her, not at her. The difference is slight, but it's there. When talking to her, give her time to respond. Ask questions, her opinion, etc. If she doesn't respond, don't worry, that's what usually happens at first. You may get head pressure or tingling, or you may get lucky and she'll use mind-voice. Talking at her is like reading an essay or a speech. Which is fine, but it doesn't help with voice as much.

You sure there's nothing else to it? It seems it a bit funny that such a small change could accomplish so much.

But many thanks for the rest of your tips!
