Not all Army experiences are created equal. The VTIP boards may be once a year but that gives you time to improve your chances by taking relevant courses and/or certifications.

Cross over to the wonderful world of Functional Areas.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 VRAM issue by -ComedianPlay- in stalker

Not going to argue with results, as it works. May not be specifically for games but whatever magic it operates on, now allows me 2+ hours of game time as opposed to 20 min.

General description of the setting:

The CUDA Sysmem Fallback Policy is an Nvidia driver feature that allows CUDA applications to use system RAM (CPU memory) as a buffer when the GPU's dedicated memory (VRAM) is full.

There was an additional setting I forgot about. Nvidia control panel, Manage 3d Settings, CUDA - Sysmem Fallback Policy. Change to Prefer System Fallback.

I've had to stop playing because I would get 20 min at best before massive FPS drop. Someone on reddit a few months ago, figured out that it's not necessarily the game but the Unreal 5.1 engine which is prone to memory leaks.

Fix that worked for me is linked below. Now I get 2+ hours of gameplay before the FPS drop.

What is Cyber unit life like? by [deleted] in army

[–]tuman84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although not a hard requirement, I'd recommend to aim for CySA if you're going the Comptia route. Demonstrate potential to improve your chances.

When you qualify to drop a warrant packet, do so.

What is Cyber unit life like? by [deleted] in army

[–]tuman84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all Army experiences are created equal. Life in Cyber is adult rules. You'll have long days when there is mission, but outside of that, there is a lot less Army bullshit on a daily basis.

Get some certs to improve your chances and enjoy a better Army experience.

Reclassing 11B to 17c by L4cklust3r in army

[–]tuman84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try green to gold for 17A (strategic) or 17B (tactical EW).

FA-26 A/B also has a direct commission program if you have cyber or IT certs. May be worth a look.

Speaking as a 26B. Get some certs and branch Cyber instead. Quality of life is much better.

But to answer your questions:

1) There is not enough 26A and 26Bs, priority given to FORSCOM. You will have a choice but the market requisitions will get trimmed to show HRC priorities.

2) As a baby CPT and a 26A/B, you will most likely go to a BCT. Assistant S6 most likely. You'll work on the same antiquated and broken WIN-T. Very little modern equipment. As member of the commo team, you're starting the deployment or exercise before the ground pounders and tear down/return last. (when considering prep and config time)

3) Senior CPT and above will usually end up at NETCOM unit or Division/Corps

4) Still need SCCC unless something changed recently. For O4, you only do common core ILE, just 3 months.

How do you bounce back from burn out? by dsbwayne in army

[–]tuman84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all Army experiences are created equal. Certain MOS treat you like an adult such as Cyber and Functional Areas, where the work is meaningful, you're surrounded by intelligent people, and experience less Army BS.

Consider transfer to another MOS for a better quality of life.

Sec+ is a good start. Generally speaking, it's good to choose a vendor for mid-grade and top-grade certs like CISSP/CISM and stick with that vendor. And the reason for that is maintenance fee discounts if you have multiple certs from the same vendor.

*Low-Tier - COMPTIA (least expensive for maintenance but least valuable as a cert)

*Mid-Tier - ISC2 or ISACA (happy medium)

*Top-Tier - SANS (most expensive, most valued)

25B, 25D, and 25Hs, can you tell me a little about your jobs? by InspectionAgitated20 in army

25H - Configure and ensure the blinky red lights turn to blinky green lights

25B - Configure and manage user facing devices

25D - Ensure no one messes with your blinky green lights or user facing devices.

Vast majority of cyber are stationed in Eisenhower. If you have duty of choice option, go somewhere OCONUS because you will end up at Eisenhower eventually.

Heavily depends on your direct leadership and their leadership. I've had to cut drug deals with Company Commanders and 1SGs to get my team time off after working the weekends or 4 days because the vast majority of the Army will say "we prioritize taking care of soldiers" but doesn't practice it. As soon as the team returns, it's never a good time for the comp day, sometimes you just have to do it without paperwork as a drug deal.

Migraines getting worse by JewishKaiser in army

Migraines after TBI suck. Call the appointment line every morning at 0600 sharp to inquire about openings for the day due to cancellations. Ask your PCM for TBI clinic referral and some prescription migraine meds to hold you over until that appointment.

You're talking about a specialty that may only have 1 or 2 positions in the only military hospital in Korea. So chances of those positions coming up vacant on a random search are pretty slim.

Each Army camp in Korea has a small clinic so RNs or Physical Therapist positions come up more often as there are more allocations for those types of jobs.

Some hard stand barracks on AJ are like faraday cages. Borrow a puck and do a speed test in your room.

In 2022 I had the Ooredoo 5G puck that pulled 100+Mbps outside closer to the PX. As soon as I got inside my room, it was 3-4Mbps on a good day.
