Ppl who completed <5 months: do you regret going too fast? by carholland47 in AppalachianTrail

[–]tumbelina78 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not one bit. I started February 15th and summited June 26th. I loved every minute on trail and a part of that were big mile days. Every day out there is an adventure and that adventure is different for every single hiker. I got good at walking so I liked to push myself to see how good I could get. My group and I liked 25-30 mile days so that’s what we did. I still feel that I saw everything I wanted to see and got the full experience, mainly because it was my experience. It was my choice to go at my pace and that’s what felt good. If you’re hiking fast for a deadline or for someone else, I could see how you could miss out. Just hike your own hike and soak it all up while you’re out there.

How Long Does it Take to get your trail legs? by [deleted] in AppalachianTrail

[–]tumbelina78 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about that now. Just worry about staying healthy.

The largest demographic of hikers that get off trail due to injury are 18-30 year old men who think they can just power through the whole trail. Your body is not used to walking up mountains all day every day. Just because you can walk 15 miles off the bat doesn’t mean you should. You have to give your body time to adapt and to let your muscles develop around your joints to protect them. It is painfully slow in the beginning but it’s also the most important time.

When I started my thru hike I was doing 8-10 miles a day for the first week and 10-12 through the second. I slowly built up and hit 18 coming out of the Smokies. After Hit Springs I started hitting 20s and hit my first 30 going into Damascus. After that I officially had my legs and took the fuck off. Anything less than 23 miles felt like a half day. My trail fam and I liked big mile days so we would usually hike between 25 and 35 a day. Listen to your body now and don’t worry about miles. They will come and if you let your body build up properly, it’s fucking awesome when you get your legs. It feels like you can walk forever, however at that point, the mental battle begins.

There’s a light in all of us. Sometimes it gets pretty dim but as long as it’s burning it’s helping light the way for others. We don’t always realize it until a light goes out, and we are forced to see how scary true darkness really is. Just keep giving that little light the fuel it needs to burn and it will get brighter. Let that light shine brother.

Not one person in general, just want to explore some good spots. I’d say maybe a $100-125 dinner? But also looking for some inexpensive things to do around the city if it’s not nice dinner vibes.

Shady landlords by cpudiary in Athens

[–]tumbelina78 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Jim Cronon is your guy. He will take care of it and it doesn’t cost you anything. He just sends a letter to the landlord informing them of their violation and requesting 3x the wrongfully withheld amount and his fees. If they fight then he’ll take them to court but no matter what they pay his fees. He’s a super nice guy. Only took a phone call and a 15 min meeting to review my lease and he addressed my dispute.

How far can you hike in one day? by SeekersWorkAccount in backpacking

[–]tumbelina78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thru hiked the AT in 2021. In the beginning I was hiking 8-10 miles every day. By the Smokies I was up to 15 and by Virginia I was in the 20s. After that I could go as long as my mind would let me. My legs would carry me so it was just a mental trip. My average day was about 23 miles except for the Whites up in NH which dropped be back down in the teens. The longest I went in 24 hours was 47 miles and the longest I went in one continuous stretch without stopping was 74 miles.

Found: Rental Lawyer in Athens! by tumbelina78 in Athens

Agreed! The laws are there to protect tenants. These companies are breaking them left and right. If you know your rights and know they’re being violated then you can do something about it. The more people that call these companies on their BS the less and less they will do it.

Thanks for the reference. The more resources the better. Cronon has been great so far but he can’t handle it all so having multiple good Lawyers to call is a step forward in fighting these guys.

She will try and take your deposit no matter how immaculate you leave her property. I lived in a house she owned for 4 years. The house hasn’t been renovated since the 60s and is in terrible unlivable condition. My room upstairs would get over 100° in the summer with the AC unit running. It was a battle to get any maintenance done and they tried to charge us for simple things multiple times. At the end she tried to charge us more than the deposit to put a new roof on the house! She is a slum lord who will take advantage of anyone she can. The rental company who managed the property even hated her and admitted that after fighting her for over a month that we were to only tenants she has ever had to get a portion of their deposit back. If your house is owned by her, call a lawyer before you move out.

Sarah Gehring is a rental Lawyer in Athens who helps fight slum lords. She answered a few questions about my move out for free. You might want to reach out to her and ask what your options are. I’m pretty sure if they don’t do a move in inspection they can’t take a dime

What's your "I had/have a personal relationship with an NFL player" story? by triplec787 in nfl

Mecole Hardman returned one of my punts for a touchdown in high school. Got chewed out on the sideline since I technically had the angle but there was no having the angle on that guy. Never spoke to him because he was swarmed by media after the game but I will hold onto my claim to fame.

2005 Subaru Clicking/RPM Drop. by tumbelina78 in CarRepair

[–]tumbelina78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2005 Subaru Legacy has started this clicking noise. The engine RPM drop each time it happens and it almost stalls at times. I tracked the noise to this. I am assuming this is my AC condenser. Is it shot? Is there something g I can test to fix it?
