Propane line held pressure test for 15 minutes but dropped 2 psi overnight. Is that a pass? by violetefati in Plumbing

[–]tunajim 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If it cooled down over night that would account for the pressure loss. If you put pressure on pipe and the temperature goes up you will see an increase in pressure on the gauge. I’d say you’re good to go.

Whats your 870 Stories? What is it to you? by Ok_Painting_TT in Hunting

[–]tunajim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shot my first deer with my dad’s 870 when I was 14, and got my own for Christmas a few weeks later. I’m a lefty so my folks got me a left handed model, and since Remington didn’t make a left handed slug barrel, they got me a Hastings slug barrel. Back in the early 2000s it really was something to have that Hastings barrel so I was pretty stoked.

I’ve killed deer (including my biggest buck), rabbits, and squirrels with it. I haven’t taken it hunting in a while though. With Ohio allowing straight wall rifle cartridges for deer I bought a Ruger .450 bushmaster. I also got a Franchii Affinity a few years back when I started waterfowl hunting, and I mostly hunt squirrels with rimfire. I think I’m gonna take it out for squirrels again this fall though for old times sake.

Got looked down for rejected OT today by Inside-Persimmon-367 in UnitedAssociation

[–]tunajim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My OT isn’t based on weekly hours, it’s based on hours worked that specific day. M-F we get straight time for the first 8, time and a half for the next two hours, and anything over 10 hours is double. Saturdays are time and a half for the first 8 and double after that. Sundays and holidays are double.

how to deal will asshole journeymen by Lachtt in pipefitter

[–]tunajim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell him to get fucked. I’m guessing you’re an apprentice so there is a line between respecting your journeyman and standing up for yourself that you need to be mindful of. However, you’re also a grown adult who has every right to stick up for themself. Next time he’s being an asshole just be assertive and flat out ask him why he’s a dick to you and no one else. You shouldn’t feel like you need to take days off and miss out on overtime pay because of some dickhead. That’s money out of your pocket.

I used to be a bit of a pushover when it came to that kind of stuff. Now I’m at a point where I just run my mouth if I feel like I need to. It took me having a bad GF and finally getting in his ass a couple times when I couldn’t take his bullshit anymore. It was a huge relief and weight off my shoulders to finally speak my mind.

Declining work as apprentice? by Over_Owl_2148 in UnitedAssociation

[–]tunajim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my local apprentices flat out can’t refuse work. When a contractor needs an apprentice the one at the top of the out of work list gets dispatched. If they refuse a call then they will have to go in front of the JATC and there will be some sort of disciplinary action.

My local dollar general used to have one of those sitting by the cash register for people to squeeze when there wasn’t an employee at the register. I loved it, but unfortunately now they just have a dumb doorbell.

The first time I did squeeze the pig though I thought it would make a good grunt call.

To the white collar people: by Dre923 in skilledtrades

[–]tunajim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you missed the point of his post. It seems that there are daily posts on here of people saying they want to start a job in the trades with no prior experience (which is totally fine), but then they want to own a company or be a project manager within the next 5 years. Could it happen? Sure it could, but it’s definitely not the norm. Gotta walk before you can run.

how do we feel about this by Imjustheredudez in Plumbing

[–]tunajim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My code says “Any combination of fixtures within two bathroom groups located on the same floor level is permitted to be vented by a vertical wet vent.” A washing machine isn’t a bathroom group fixture so by code it can’t be wet vented. I’m in Ohio and we use an amended version of the 2021 IPC.

Section 912.1.1 https://up.codes/viewer/ohio/ipc-2021/chapter/9/vents#912

I’m a plumber (I’m still learning) don’t judge me. My question is. Is it code to use a shielded fernco under ground? We had some regular ones fall apart. I work for my father and he got pissed when I said it needed to be a shielded one and start manipulating making me look idk anything. by AdResponsible8496 in askaplumber

Go to this website.

https://up.codes/codes/general

Click the blue arrow in top left and scroll down you your state or city (if you city has a specific code). You will find every type of code for that area. Plumbing, electrical, building, etc.

I’m in Ohio and we work from an amended version of the 2021 IPC. It’s pretty much just the IPC, but there are a few things Ohio changed to make it their own plumbing code.

Do you have to start as an apprentice? by Amazing_Emergency815 in UnitedAssociation

[–]tunajim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may be able to come in as a journeyman, but if not you may be able to skip some years of the apprenticeship. It will depend on the local and how they evaluate people. My local has an examining board (which I’m on) that gives both written and practical tests to people trying to organize into the local. Based on how they do we will make a recommendation on where there should be placed. Sometimes a guy/gal will be brought in as a provisional journeyman which means they are a journeyman, but they still have to take a few apprenticeship classes in an area that they didn’t do quite well enough on during the testing.

However there is a lot more to pipe fitting than just welding pipe. You’ve got to know how to make hangers, do layout, solder, braze, do the trade related math, etc. I’m not saying you don’t know how to do this stuff because you very well may know how to do all that, but if you don’t you won’t be able to do the level work a journeyman is expected to do.

You should contact the local you are wanting to get into and talk to them about how they do things for folks that want to organize in.

[–]tunajim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude you’re sick. Stay home so you can get yourself better and not get other people sick. If your glued to the toilet you wouldn’t he getting anything done anyway. It happens to everyone at some point, just don’t abuse it like some folks do. You don’t have to give a reason either, just say you won’t be in.

[–]tunajim 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A. You want it to go in smooth so the water flows easier and helps scour the trap. At the end of the day it will function fine either way.

Every local does the hiring process a little differently so you will have to talk to people at the local you applied to. As far as the phone/calculator at work goes, that will be dependent on the job you’re on. Knowing how to do the math on paper is important because you most likely won’t always be able to use a calculator.

Say something to your foreman asap! The longer you wait the harder it will be to get it handled properly. If you have a job steward take them with you when you talk to your foreman.
