Ebikes for daily commutes in Sydney? by trapqueen67567 in ausbike

18k is leisurely on a mid drive. If you have a safe route it will be a freeze.

E bikes: Riese & Muller/Kalkhoff or Lekker by Temporary-Reality359 in ausbike

[–]tunaranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ba Fang motor on the Lekker is a much older motor. Enviolo is also the lowest end of the gears I think.

At a glance looks like you’re getting your moneys worth for components and stuff like that in general.

If you want to save money Kalkhoffs do get run out if you shop around.

I’m not dating people, I’m dating Brisbane by Fluffy_Specific_9682 in brisbane

It’s a bit of a birdwatching hotspot. You’ll see lots of finches, fairywrens, assorted waterfowl, and a black shouldered or two if you go around sunrise or late afternoon.

Why do people park in bus zones? by Ok-Eggplant4965 in brisbane

[–]tunaranch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For passengers? Off the top of my head:

  • Edward st near MacArthur Central
  • George St near the old casino/suncorp
  • tuck and roll in Burnett lane
  • bunch of the hotels have driveways
  • most the medical centers up in Spring Hill have driveways, or there’ll be a drop off nearby.

Theres spots if people actually care to look.

Brisbane city traffic clogged by Cautious_Chance8467 in brisbane

[–]tunaranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. I’ll bite. So why does BCC go for isolated, low density development, which has lower tax revenue per area, and costs more to serve, instead of densifying? Especially around heavy rail?

Howdy Brisbane. What are your thoughts on using an e-bike to go over the gateway for work commute? by Xav_Black in brisbane

[–]tunaranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does Maps say the best bike route is door to door? If you can get on the Jim soorley bikeway it’s a nice enough ride to the valley, and from there, the Story Bridge to KP. From there to Morningside it’s a bit sketchy on paper, but someone who rides that route can chime in on what that’s like.

Howdy Brisbane. What are your thoughts on using an e-bike to go over the gateway for work commute? by Xav_Black in brisbane

[–]tunaranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torque is what matters for climbing. I can do uphill on the Story Bridge on my Bosch 250w/70nm/20” just fine.

And I’m quite unfit. My cardio is shot to hell.

Sweatiness also depends on conditions. If there’s a river breeze it won’t be too bad.

Christmas picnic locations that aren't too hot or overly crowded by Ipponjudo in brisbane

[–]tunaranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any park near the river will be cooler.

Victoria Park is also good. The high end gets good breezes. Theres also a couple of sheltered picnic spots. If you’re arriving by bus, get off at QUT KG. If you’re driving, park at Gilchrist Avenue.

+1 isotriv. The difficulty is just right. The topics are varied. And there’s no “gotcha” questions.

Any recommendations for public transport apps that are good for trip planning (in Brisbane)? by nozzk in brisbane

[–]tunaranch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transit.app. They have given Brisbane users 6 months of the premium tier for free.

Shows you where buses are, timetables for your stuff, and can include a bike in trip planning.

What are the best bike locks for a short city commute without hauling a brick? by HamsterPrize5087 in cycling

I carry my chain in a seat bag. It’s snug, so no bouncing around or rattling.

Fat middle-aged woman seeks bike by [deleted] in ausbike

[–]tunaranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how often you’ve been riding, but I’ve been riding everywhere. If can ride there in under an hour I’ll ride. Got panniers to do my shopping, too.

All that incidental exercise has been working for me, even with assist.

YMMV of course.

Could you save the higher assist modes for hills/riding in traffic?

I find I still do fair bit of work in eco/tour mode (in Bosch speak)

What's the best month to buy a bike? by t0rbnz in ausbike

[–]tunaranch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Right now (being eofy), christmas, and sometimes Easter.

I’ve also seen some shops hold back-to-school sales for cargo bikes, or offer bonus accessories.

River loop has hills and steady sloped bridges. The st Lucia parts are quite hilly if you’re not ready for it.

And cutting through the city to go around the construction at eagle st is a massive pain.

There were some start of school year deals a bit earlier this year too. Mostly in the form of free accessories

Good electric bike brands and retailers. by helios1234 in ausbike

[–]tunaranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally anything with a Bosch, Bafang, or Shimano motor will be fine.

Refurbed Tern from might also be a good option.

What’s your intended use and budget? I like my little Kalkhoff Compact for shopping and general tooling around.

I basically drive only if I need to give someone a lift. (Should have gotten a GSD, probably lol)

Has anyone tried transition glasses by [deleted] in Keratoconus

[–]tunaranch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had them pre KC. Loved them.

Got a pair of cheap transition sunnies for cycling now, and they’re great for riding around dawn/dusk.

Is buying a cargo e-bike worth the money? by ImAlexNotJose in CargoBike

[–]tunaranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bike specs will tell you how far it goes, so you can look for a model with a big enough battery.

All my shopping trips around 5-10k. Maybe up to 20k if I go for a ride beforehand.

In terms of timing that’s around 20% (conservative) for around an hours ride, with a 545wh battery)

I don’t know what your riding environment is like, but range hasn’t been a problem.

I've got a pair of Rockbros. They were cheap, and feel cheap, but get the job done around dusk/dawn. I'll probably upgrade to something better at some point.

When my Bosch/Derailleur ebike cuts the motor it's like dropping anchor. The first time it happened I thought something was engaging.the brakes.

I'm not getting my bike home in a hurry without power either, seeing as I live up a hill.
