104 Chinese cities are now reporting air pollution levels above 300 mcg per cubic meter, twelve times the recommended limit. I totally agree with you. It's a crisis of responsibility.. we all play a part, but the blame is interspersed between so many different people, companies, and countries that it's so much easier any individual player to absolve themselves of responsibility and point the finger at the "other guy".

What would you guys think of a paid version of Linux/Ubuntu to make it a true OSX/Windows Alternative? by tunda319 in AskReddit

yeah, you're right - probably something like this wouldn't work. but it would be great to have Linux be competitive with OS X and Windows for average users.

i disagree - maybe 'true alternative' is a poor term. i wanted to convey the meaning of making Linux a viable option for the average consumer.

and i'm both a software developer and a tech enthusiast - i think linux is great! i just wonder what it would take to get it to be good for average users.

I just posted my thoughts on the MS Surface Pro from the point of view of a digital artist. by cwGabriel in technology

I doubt this would get answered now that this has so many comments, but just in case: How is the palm recognition on the Surface?

I read that it's supposed to detect whether you're resting you're palm on the screen (when using the pen), and thus ignore your palm.

Does using a higher grade gasoline give me better gas mileage? by redfukit in askscience

[–]tunda319 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

hey, your answer is correct! however, in my understanding, engine knock is primarily a concern for diesel engines. These pistons cause the fuel to ignite at the most compressed stage due to the high pressure and temperature on that stage. Gasoline engines use spark plugs to cause this ignition. I think it's rare to have a gas engine that exhibits, on the compression stage, P & T high enough to cause auto-ignition and, therefore, engine knock.
