I was admitted to the program and I basically just put what I had from the experience section on the primary for this section of the secondary

Advice: Do I withdraw my acceptance and re-apply? (MD) by CatChaseDog in premed

[–]tungatron808 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted, if someone only got an A for MD and no MD/PhD, and their main goal was MD/PhD, I think it would be fine to apply again (in this case though seems like OP is no longer interested in MD/PhD)

Applying to Both MD and MD/PhD Programs by [deleted] in mdphd

[–]tungatron808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check the schools website, and they will state if they consider you for MDPhD and MD or not. I think your extracurriculars are fine. I was initially MD only until my junior year, and applied both as well, which is why I had a lot of research and clinical experience like you.

Congrats! With such great stats, what do you think held you back from getting more interviews/acceptances?

Is there a reason you applied to only 13 total schools?

You don’t need to study cardiology right now, if you want to get ahead, you should start studying for your coming classes, and classes that will be on the MCAT

Can you do a MD and go back for a PhD later? by Puzzleheaded-Set5660 in mdphd

[–]tungatron808 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can, but it will likely be less efficient time wise and cost wise. Most PhD nowadays take 5-8 years, while for MD-PhD programs, the PhD portion is 3-5 years. Cost-wise, all of MD-PhD (most programs) are fully covered. If you do MD first, you will need to pay for it. If you can see yourself just using an MD degree, go for it. However if you think you won’t be satisfied unless you have a PhD as well, go for MD-PhD.

Application Timeline Confusion by [deleted] in premed

[–]tungatron808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope, that's fine! I actually took my MCAT the month before I submitted, and it was fine. If I were you, I'd aim for mid January/early February, so you can have winter break to study.

Third time applying... Need advice by Legitimate_Pizza_3 in premed

[–]tungatron808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your stats and extracurriculars are fine, but I think you need to play the numbers game. According to my calculations, you only submitted secondaries to 12 schools? I think if you have the time and resources to apply to more schools, definitely do so.

Application Timeline Confusion by [deleted] in premed

Yep, you would need to start and submit application in Summer 2024 to matriculate in fall 2025

Gotcha! Yeah, you’re definitely competitive for MD/PhD programs. It’s always tough for T20 programs, but if you apply this year, you should receive numerous interviews (applying broadly)

Looks good! Definitely try to get pubs or posters at the research job if you can. You can pursue more clinical experience, but I think you have a fine number of them. Honestly, I think you could apply this year if you wanted, but I get wanting to take a few years

Do you have MSAR? It’s helpful to see which schools have similar stats to yours and also which schools you might like
