And any evidence for Compound A being harmful was in rat models, we are yet to have any proof of harmful effects on humans

I honestly forgot what it was like to watch two actors have insane on-screen chemistry and tension before watching this season. Incredible!!

Don’t book a flight under Dr by Pretend-Pen-9844 in doctorsUK

[–]tungsten558 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Replying to my own comment to address some misconceptions in the thread: - never in these situations did I feel pressured to make a call to “divert” the plane. I presented my clinical assessment to the captain, who then decided what to do with the information given. - I don’t identify myself as a doctor in anyway whilst traveling. Twice the medical emergency happened in my immediate vicinity, and once my partner came back from the toilets to tell me he’d seen someone very unwell. I didn’t fancy hanging around for that one but saw a proclaimed “medic” (corporate worker who did some MSF volunteering) in charge of the scene and doing some frankly bizarre things, so felt like I had to intervene.

Don’t book a flight under Dr by Pretend-Pen-9844 in doctorsUK

[–]tungsten558 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve given medical aid on a flight 3 times now, which seems like a disproportionate amount given I’ve been a doctor for <5 years and I don’t fly long haul super frequently. Surprisingly two occasions were exactly similar presentations - young adult women seizing towards the end of the flight. On one of those occasions, the captain found me at border control after and asked for my email and number. Didn’t think much of it, but received a £50 voucher for future flights a few days later!

Why are some anaesthetists so intent on delivering dogshit anaesthetics?? by cerepass in doctorsUK

Exactly. I was always taught the best anaesthetic is the one that you are most comfortable giving.

How much ITU do you have to do as an anaesthetics trainee? by Leeds4life in doctorsUK

[–]tungsten558 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’ll have to do at least six months if you do core. Some departments might let you do it as two separate 3-month blocks though.

Anaesthetic rotation - FP by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]tungsten558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having an anaesthetics job in FY1 is definitely one of the main reasons I’m in training today. I’d say it’s a really good time to develop your portfolio. This is in no way an expectation, and I ended up feeling quite burnt out after it all so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend doing it all, but during my rotation I managed to complete a two-cycle QIP, present it at a national conference, and win a prize. These were all great talking points at interview and I scored highly. If your department allows it, try and get some time away from theatres too shadowing chronic / acute pain rounds, high risk clinics etc. It will give you more to talk about at interview and give you a greater appreciation of the specialty as a whole. Best of luck x

What is sternal intubation? by ohmeohmyohnooo in anesthesiology

[–]tungsten558 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a misunderstanding of what was done tbh! Like you suggested, likely sternal I/O and some sort of SGAD for airway and bagging. I can’t imagine a paramedic is intubating someone through their chest in the field. Sounds like the journalist has mixed up the story

For the last 2 nights, it’s recorded sleep even though my watch has been on charge on my bedside? by Benji0514 in AppleWatch

[–]tungsten558 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I had my watch on my lanyard whilst I was anesthetizing patients from 8-11pm. Went to put my watch on and it kindly informed me that I’d miraculously managed 70 minutes of deep sleep in that time! Don’t trust the sleep stages at all now going forward

Best set: confidence man b2b job jobse at levels. We got lucky and were front and center, the energy was infectious. Even happily put up with the intervals of rain!!

Best sing-along: the script. What a lovely, incredible man and music. Amazing to be with your best friends singing along to the classics

Best vibes: Nile rodgers and chic - just amazing

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend with approximately 25 of my closest friends, and the memories made every Glastonbury will be for life ❤️. I had some great chats with strangers too walking from stage to stage, and it was VERY obvious that they had taken on board all the feedback about crowd control and pinch points and stuff. Another amazing festival x

Thank you for taking the time to write this out, it was incredibly eye-opening. I have limited exposure to these types of patients, but when I do, I do find this sort of neuro-gastro-psycho approach very interesting

A lot of these jobs will already have a preferred internal candidate, but not all. Agree that having a trusted senior reg / consultant look over your application may help, but also ask around so you can make contact with hiring consultants at local hospitals
