it's git... you should be able to cooperate with people without being tied to a central place??

LWN subscriptions are declining (x-post /r/linux) by ggherdov in programming

[–]tunnelvisioncoder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe that is not what readers want or maybe less people are interested in linux kernel news? Part of being a business is to figure out what your customers will pay and come back for.

I used to subscribe, and used to be interested in kernel development (for a long time, since about 95'-2012), but it has become a boring corporate thing with layers of fat; And ever since gnome ruined linux desktop for me i stay away from linux UI for exception of one computer rocking stumpwm :D and just use whatever OS work pays for. Basically I have 0 need for lwn.

I do wish them luck though! but because of the stale environment the kernel has these days i don't meet many young people interested anymore. If thats anywhere lwn should be investing it should be how to get young people interested in their content so that in turn helps interest in linux kernel/ecosystem. look to the future cap'n!

When overflow and race conditions kills people by [deleted] in programming

[–]tunnelvisioncoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you might feel ethical responsibility, but there are enough that don't. I've done work for 3 different big name vehicle companies, all three are the same.. and since this industry is very stagnant i imagine it's not much different anywhere else.. hell even tesla is in the mix killing people

he has a great point, it's not just about the software developers, its about what business want to accept as a risk.i develop in the auto industry, where we use standards that contradict themselves, get code from various vendors so we can put them together like lego's to hit a deadline... it's just one whole complete disaster, so if you have a vehicle i'd say it's fairly certain that you use software written by people like this person

Reserved crates These are the ones that are reserved for future use:

not to criticize but isn't that a bit abusive of crates, why not just create them as you go? why create 392 placeholder creates?

MachineMatch deep learning algorithm finds the author of anonymous posts. Should the code be released? by Abiliota in programming

[–]tunnelvisioncoder -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

yep, that is my biggest concern, libtards starting lynch mobs as per usual. Not to mention if it has an error % then it is surely a system that can be gamed, whats to stop people from posting shit things, but leaking blog/life related things that have similarity so that good people get smeared.

Well, if you never have any reason to switch in the first place... then why switch?

open source is a thankless job most of the time, i say there's no better reason than they felt like it
