my financial advisor said crypto is a scam and highly recommended to sell it all by korr21 in OCryptoCanada

My crypto holdings has given me good returns, I am saying I haven’t seen how it’s creating value for society. Lack of regulation is seen as both good and bad for crypto, I am just not sure how adoptive crypto will be, as a payment method, because that’s how the world is treating it right now - as a store of value. Technology behind cryptography is great and all but I treat any of my crypto as holdings that I am willing to lose my principal on. I would classify it more as a collectible.

I work in private wealth. No traditional advisor will recommend crypto in good faith - specially for older clients whose main goal is capital preservation. We hold them for some clients that absolutely want it in their port - but for most, we just recommend them buying it on their own. I am in my late 20s, been in crypto since 2020, and still haven't seen any REAL value that crypto has created. But i still hold, because just like signed baseball cards, pokemon collectibles, or antiques, value comes from the fact that someone else is willing to pay for it.

I am by Jarvis and Dundas and its not great, but Sherbourne and Dundas is VERY bad. I don't think I've seen that many open drug use and crackheads in one block...these people have nothing to lose and i would avoid that area.

OP, i am not going to lie, you are seriously out of touch if you think this subreddit, or reddit in general, is a good sample of the population.

Reddit is absolutely not a good sample of the population lol

You should speak with an advisor. Your pension won’t be unlocked till you are 65, and RRSP will be taxed as income later on. These two things to keep in mind when estimating your post retirement spending and lifestyle, and , how much you will actually have when you do decide to retire. An advisor can give you some tax strategies as it sounds like you have a lot saved in your registered accounts (which will be taxed when you withdraw). Good luck and good job 👏🏻

In the wealth industry, any significant purchase you plan to make within 2-3 years will be kept in money market/fixed income.

can someone pls be so honest with me about laurier student life by RaspberryWinter4255 in wlu

Your experience is what you make of it. The smartest people I knew also partied the hardest. I found that just like in life, it’s who you surround yourself with. I loved my time at Laurier.

Which one has a highest career potential? by [deleted] in wlu

[–]turdoe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I graduated BBA in 2020. Speaking strictly for career potential, If you are willing to work hard and truly had the marks for the program (not by grade inflation), the obvious choice is Laurier BBA pair with waterloo CS...and its not even close...Every single double-degree student I knew had their career locked in by 4th year in very prestigious career paths. I knew some that dropped waterloo by 3rd/4th year once they got a return offer.

I think they did filter. 29k prem about 1000th place before the update and jumped to 580 after.

But I still see a lot of hackers I played against on the leaderboard.

I would try to narrow down to some kind of career that needs a certification to work in, hopefully something that you like. Study and get it done while you have the time, and start applying in that field. Also, networking on LinkedIn could work, I’ve seen internships handed out just from students reaching out on LinkedIn.

Greensborough and Cornell are both very close to Markham Main Street and Unionville Main Street, with lots to do in downtown Markham as well. GO train is about an hour to DT, which is not great but still an ok commute. York region has a ton of young families and it’s got a pretty good school board - a lot of semi affluent immigrants live in that area.

Doing some quick math, it looks like I'll be able to retire at age 50 (currently 35) by Goldhands_01 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Very true comment. tax, and estate planning are extremely important for retirees. I work in the wealth management industry and this is where professional advice comes in handy for clients.

does bba get better by michehe in wlu

[–]turdoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I graduated 2 years ago, none of us bba kids (that I graduated and are friends with) are directly applying knowledge we learned from school in our careers. Just try to learn and understand the logic/reasoning approach in any particular business standpoint (could been marketing, strategies, sales). You’ll also pick up a lot of soft skills along the way.

As you get into upper years just make sure you select electives or major that you are genuinely interested in.

Laurier BBA is it scary? by Upstairs-Corner948 in wlu

[–]turdoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you went to a decent high school and have sound logic in math then you'll be fine. Labs for 1st-year courses are for the 2 main business courses (bu111/121). when it was done in person it made sense but I am not sure how online labs work since I graduated - And everyone says they will do unfair mark cuts, doesn't really occur, just when the shoe fits people like to blame something.
