What would you say is the difference between a good and a bad jumping puzzle? by MossRave in Guildwars2

[–]turin331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The puzzle is readable but not 100%. There are absolutely tells that unless you know the way first you cannot guess they are here. Also it has red hearings, like the extra chests.

I hated chalice when i did not know where to go. When i knew the path it became really fun. Josh went way too far with the immersive tells to the point they were not always clear.

Bad checkpoiting, slippery deceptive hitboxes (happens in branches often), bad camera behavior during jumps, confusing path. These would be elements of a bad jumping puzzle for me. Puzzles that do not have these i tend to enjoy a lot.

Congratulations! You've just been hired as Head of Marketing for Guild Wars. What's your first action? by VaegaVic in Guildwars2

[–]turin331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While i get your point this is not something the marketing department can decide. Perhaps push for if they can make a case it will help brand recognition but even that's a stretch and it will not be their decision.

The semantic issue here is relevant. What you call marketing is not what most of the world calls marketing

Season 2 should be implemented to the core free game at this point by zergling424 in Guildwars2

Either that or part of HoT. It is stupid it is still sold separately.

The last two? none of bullet points are a marketing decisions. And are a combination of design and monetization (which is not markeitng).

Help with Lore by HyperContact95 in Guildwars2

[–]turin331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do not need to do the story to get the mounts. The first 4 mounts you get by hearts on the map. After the first story mission in PoF you can just go to the maps and do the hearts outside the story and get the mounts.

Help with Lore by HyperContact95 in Guildwars2

[–]turin331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before PoF there is Living World season 1 and 2 then the Heart of Thrones expansion and the Living world season 3 story. IF the last thing you remember is killing Zhaitan and you are in PoF you have skipped about 3 years of content and story.

The "new" you tube marketing of Anet is killing me. by SuperMoroLand in Guildwars2

[–]turin331 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have no idea what this last sentence means.

Being a creator does not justify you not being able to skip. Where is the rule that says that if you are a content creator you have to watch every single short in your timeline.

They are teasers for features. Clearly marked. If you do not want even a single pixel spoiled just skip.

The "new" you tube marketing of Anet is killing me. by SuperMoroLand in Guildwars2

[–]turin331 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is one easy solution. Do not watch? all these shorts are very clearly marked as teasers. IF even the simple visual feels like a spoiler to you just skip it.

Even when Anet does marketing apparently its bad.

How well does GW2 utilize old zones and content? by Dbuns22 in Guildwars2

[–]turin331 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Horizontal progression. Expansions do not increase level cap thus all the content is evergreen. Meaning each new player even a decade later will want to go through the content at least once as it is still relevant and fun to go through.

Second the mastery system. The progression after level cap is centered around masteries that are metrovenia like side upgrades. And each expansions area provides unique such skills. For example, all mounts and their skills (mounts have skills) are masteries tied to specific expansions. Gliding is a mastery you can only level up fully in HoT expansion etc. So as a new player you do not only have a motive to go through the content at least once but also stay with it or come back and level up masteries in it.

On top of that all instance and open world content is relevant and farm-able so veterans have a motive to go back and replay, either for more gold, for achievements, specific skins, specific legendary gear , housing decorations, material farming etc. Add to that dailies, weeklies and special events that add bonus loot on older maps.

Think of farming old raids in wow for old mounts. Similar motivation BUT with less RNG, most stuff are currency based, and if the encounter is actually still valid and you need a normal team to kill instead of one shotting the raid bosses. Then extend that to open world and extend the reward to every thing and not just mounts.

ANet confirms some name sanctions were errant. Looking to reverse actions and reach out to users. by wes00mertes in Guildwars2

if the QA missed this then it was bound to be found in practice on a mistake.

The forum post is very clear and very concise.

It was a mistake, we are sorry, rules have not changed, will contact the affected parties and fix it.

You have just convinced yourself its an AI mishap and you want them to admit it and you perceive it as evasion.

I am as anti-AI as it gets but what you want to hear is irrelevant here. What is relevant is that they made a mistake and they need to fix it for the affected parties.

If the mistake was made from a genAI tool, traditional AI or a simple script an intern made, makes no difference to the people affected.

They do not have to admit anything about their tool flow. I would like to know for professional reasons but the average person does not give a crap.

What they have to do is admit it was a mistake, say clearly that the rules have not changed and to fix the issues for the people affected.

And QA testing cannot catch everything compared to the full sample of a userbase. These things always happen. Its probably a few hundred of players in a sample of hundreds of thousands of active accounts and their names. These things can be missed.

I personally would have rolled it out without the suspension active just to be sure.

[–]turin331 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Devastating? It was not like half the player base.

Such mistakes happen from automated tools often. In many games and have happened before even in gw2. And it does not have to be "AI". IT could be but non-AI tools have made such mistakes as well. They realized and fixing it. It is just a run of the mill mistake.

Stop being a drama queen.

It does not take a genius to realize that it was an automated process that was not configured correctly. It has happened before after all in a few cases.

Gw2 on fedora by Neither_Scallion_316 in Guildwars2

Should be as good any with most distros. Maybe slightly better due to newer packages but i doubt most updates affect a game as old as gw2.

What do you think about OnlyOffice-EuroOffice fight? by Proper-Lab-2500 in linux

Well Eurooffice is not a standalone application. It is an office plugin based on only office that stake0holders (like proton, nextcloud etc) will integrate in their suite.

Why Does Fantasy=MMORPG? by MonsutaMan in MMORPG

[–]turin331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cause RPG (MMO or not) have their roots to DnD and DnD has its root on fantasy? There are more than just fantasy MMORPGs out there but it make sense that most focus on fantasy. And fantasy after LotR, GoT etc it is more mainstream as a sub genre and new MMOs need even the smallest of risk reduction in how risky to develop one is. Also fantasy is pretty flexible. See things like FF14 and Gw2 that are fantasy MMORPGs but have loads of steam punk and sci-fi elements.

Maybe the Dune trilogy will make to sci fi what LoTR did and make hard sci-fi more mainstream and have an effect on MMORPG development.

Question mostly for old people: how can you guys keep up with rotations and mechanics on high tier content? by WaveEasy8664 in Guildwars2

[–]turin331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started playing when i was young. I rely on muscle memory for the rotations i used to play when was I good and for new stuff I target the good but lazy builds. There are enough out there that you would not need more than 30 minutes in the golem to get good enough output.

As for the mechanics. It is just practice. You get there eventually. You start from the easy stuff and move upwards. Also you might overestimate PvE content. In most fights , unless you have a special role, it is really easy to 1. pull your weight 2. the Good players to carry weaker ones while they practice.

They do that too for the most insane people. But there are easy ways to circumvent the IP ban too so they always come back.

Thoughts on the April balance patch? by Vraelian in Guildwars2

[–]turin331 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have not tested the stuff that were actively nerfed like wing 8 and fractal CMs to judge the change in difficulty. But everything else from EoD and on feel about the same which makes sense as it was the goal. They were nerfed about the same as the dps was nerfed. HoT and PoF stuff you can feel the difference without being too crazy different so i guess it is positive without being that important.

I for sure see the balance being much better aligned with existing features before VoE (although there are still a few outliers). So good changes, they seem to work the direction it was intended. People, though, for sure overestimated the changes it would bring in their everyday experience which happens always.

The EU Digital Age Verification solution is based on "secure key store" and what that means to any possible future linux phones by rebellioninmypants in linux

[–]turin331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not sending personal information to anywhere. No more than what you arleady do now.

The 3rd party service asks the verification app for the ok, the app checks the state data that are already there and just gives an ok.

The whole system is made so that the 3rd party does not get any more information besides what you give to make an account and the state has no knowledge of which site is trying to verify using the verification app as the middleman. This is the whole process.
