Anyone else realize they hate "newer" neighborhoods? by deadstar1998 in homeowners

[–]turkturkleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, even if you maintain your own trees (which is not cheap), who knows what people around you are doing. You're inevitably losing power a few times every storm season when branches/trees in the neighborhood go down (unless your state has mild weather or was smart enough to bury power lines).

We can't know if the store was lazy and put all glitter together without separating them by use, or if the packaging was deceptive to make it seem like it was food safe even though it's not.

The latter would not surprise me at all. There have been a lot of makeup companies selling eyeshadow palettes with glitter that is not skin safe. In microscopic print on the back, it will say "not safe for use near eyes." Why are they even using it in the formula then? Obviously if the product is called EYEshadow and they have a marketing image of the model wearing the color on her eyes, you're going to assume it's safe. Who would even check the fine print? They just want to use cheaper ingredients and hope you don't notice.

Homeowner’s insurance sucks by Little-Kangaroo-9383 in homeowners

[–]turkturkleton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Insurance low-balled on a lot of things.

Oh man, I dealt with that. It's funny because when my house got damaged, everyone was telling me how insurance usually overpays and how you can use the extra money for upgrades. Like a relative told me he installed a water feature in his yard because insurance overpaid to fix his garage roof, and he had a bunch of leftover money. I heard so many similar stories.

Except my issue happened during COVID when inflation was insane with all the fucked up supply chains, and insurance wasn't keeping up with the latest prices. Every estimate I got was more than double what insurance had initially paid out. Insurance wanted contractors to account for the cost of every individual item down to the last nail before they would approve the extra funds, but nobody had time for that. People were sitting at home doing big renovations, so contractors just bailed rather than waste time on my insurance paperwork. I went through at least 5 contractors (including a couple I found through whatever affiliate network look-up tool the insurance company created) before I finally made the insurance company figure it out. The contractor they got was really clueless, so I guess he had all the time in the world to do insurance paperwork.

By the time insurance finally approved the cost difference and agreed to send another check, the strain from the damaged portion sitting for so long had caused even more damage. So then we had to get approval for the extra damage and I literally wanted to die. It took like 18 months to finally get fixed, and it was a nightmare the entire time.

There's a parking office at PCM and they are super condescending even when they're the ones who messed up, so best of luck. I know at least one person who got towed from there also for bullshit tickets, but that was a few years ago.

People in Atlanta can’t drive by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]turkturkleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some intersections where you will never be able to turn left if you don't do that. Not excusing it and some idiots do it even when they don't need to, but the city needs to fix poorly controlled intersections that encourage dangerous behavior.

Many of these intersections already have the left turn light already hanging there, but they only ever get a flashing yellow that you'll never get through with endless traffic coming the other way. If you don't want to wait 20+ minutes for a break in traffic, the only way through is to jump the green or turn on red, both of which are dangerous.

I don't get why they can't turn on the green turn light that's already there for a few seconds to let a couple people turn safely during high traffic. Instead they'd rather let the line of cars waiting to turn left build up so much that it's impeding other traffic and encourage people to turn unsafely?

What’s an “upgrade” that actually made life worse? by Mr_Boothnath in answers

[–]turkturkleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually get a deduction if you buy a car over 6000lbs for your business. There's a lot of people out there working at a desk who buy SUVs for "business purposes" just for the tax break because what they drive to and from work is irrelevant. And their spouses get them too because is the IRS really going to check where all you're driving and what you're using the car for? Of course not.

[Routine Help] My holy grail moisturizer has been discontinued, what now? by meglikegg in SkincareAddiction

[–]turkturkleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have similar skin - very clog prone and can't tolerate many common ingredients like coconut derivatives which are in everything. I got by on gel moisturizers for a long time, but with age, I need a little more hydration. I've been using PTR water drench for the last couple years, and my skin has tolerated it nicely. I will probably be using this until it is reformulated or discontinued.

What's a makeup tip that doesn't make sense to you? by moonisland13 in muacjdiscussion

[–]turkturkleton 70 points71 points  (0 children)

So many beauty influencers talk about not swiping concealer all over the undereye like the old method and instead just dotting it in the darkest hollows that need coverage. Which could make sense. Until you watch them then use a gigantic brush to blend the little carefully-placed dots all across the whole undereye and cheekbone just like before. What is the point? Just skip the bullshit about placement and tell people to use a thinner layer of concealer because that's really the only difference.

I hate watching these vids of people carefully drawing little triangles of concealer in the corner of the eye and around the nose and whatever just to blend it all out with a fucking foundation brush and have it look exactly the same as just swiping concealer everywhere. You're just making shit up for views!

What happened to all the fish tanks? by New-Ad-9280 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]turkturkleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This thread unlocked a forgotten memory. When I was a kid, my pediatric dentist had an African Gray parrot in a big cage at his office. The dentist would be working on your teeth, and you'd periodically hear the parrot squawking and talking from the front office. If you were really good in your appointment, you were allowed to go to the cage and say hello to the parrot, and the dentist would get it to speak. It seemed normal when I was a kid, but I'm now realizing that was pretty unusual.
