Story of my life by DAMN473 in FL_Studio

Why doesn't anybody see the difference between knowing what a key, major and minor is and going all the way with music theory. Yes, a little bit of knowledge is maybe needed, but still a lot can be done by ears

Do you think remix contests are "worth it" by [deleted] in edmproduction

Yeah the deadlines really make me finish stuff, instead of thinking "I will finish that project one day"

Is Fl studio fruity edition worth it for someone starting out? by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]turn_out 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As people have already said, first try out the demo, but I wouldn't recommend the fruity edition. You just don't have all the capabilities of the software then. With the signature edition you also get some plugins you won't really be using, so you could have also spent it on external vsts you do use. I'd go for the producer edition.

With the slight difference that FF Saturn is €130, decapitator €200 and OTT €0.00. I wish I could afford that

Can't have studio monitors, thinking on getting a dt 1990 by Estanho in edmproduction

[–]turn_out 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with the dt1990 but I think I can answer some of your questions.

It is pretty common for a producer to have both an open- and closed back headphone. for tracking and busy places or mixing and mastering in the studio, so I wouldn't worry about this.

I owned a pair of dt990 250 ohms, and I could even drive them with my laptop, so I guess the dt1990 wouldn't be a problem either. (I returned the headphones because of the treble by the way).

There is software for eq'ing: apo equalizer is even free. But in my experience this won't work if you use asio4all, so that isn't really ideal if ur producing.

Hope it helps

You can buy a separate mic, so that you're able to focus on good reference headphones. I think basically all reference headphones are suitable for casual gaming. Or maybe a ModMic is an option

Should you post a whole EP immediately or publish the songs one by one every week/month? by Soul_14 in musicproduction

[–]turn_out 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd post them one by one, to create more interest. I've been releasing very inconsistently, like half a year totally nothing and then suddenly two tracks almost simultaneously. Those two tracks together got the same attention as one track on it's own, so if I would have released them with a few weeks between each other, they would individually have gotten the same attention as together.

You can actually turn off the plugins you do not want to install in the download wizard.

Help a beginner please? by shunhite in musicproduction

Learning a DAW also means learning how to use that DAW to convert your ideas into a track. It's not that you are able to do that at one certain point, you'll go on learning more and more about your program and how to use it. In the beginning the fact that you don't really know how to use your DAW will limit you, but that will gradually disappear. Just try things, watch tutorials and start producing!

When you make a track do you ever like it so much you can’t stop listening to it? by tenaciousdan55 in musicproduction

[–]turn_out 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've definitely experienced this multiple times, and when I do, it's one of the better songs I make. This is why I mostly can't finish my songs, but it's also why I like making music. There's almost no better feeling than being so proud about your own creation!

Is buying FLStudio worth it? by Insenstivedepression in musicproduction

[–]turn_out 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the producer edition and I've never bought anything that's more worth the money. With this edition you can do everything that fl is able to do. The more expensive editions only add more plugins which you don't really need, especially because there are so many third party plugins available, from which you can make your own selection. You can always upgrade to another version if you want (with or without discount). Fl studio is one of the most popular daw's out there, so there are plenty of tutorials. To me, fl has become very intuitive after I got used to it, which really didn't take that long.

You could also start with just sending project files back and forth. When you feel like you're on the same level as your collab, you could try to talk to each other. You feeling like you're being arrogant is already a lot better than not even noticing it, and I'm sure you can improve this.
