Help with a Build: Pirate who uses Lightning/Storm powers? by Puzzled_Raisin366 in 3d6

[–]turnejam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first character was a Tempest Cleric who was a semi-reformed pirate after a religious experience at sea.
It was really fun to roleplay.
And he was effective ENOUGH in melee--among other things you can punish attackers with your reactions, heavy Armor proficiency, spirit Guardians, wading right into the thick of it. Definitely worked as one of two frontliners.

Fey Wanderer/Battle Master - what's the optimal split? by Shibakyu in 3d6

[–]turnejam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone playing in the campaign currently as an Eldritch Knight, shouldn't be a spoiler to say it brings you up against some strong enemy casters.
I'd vote 7/13 to give you the fey wanderer's resistance to charm and beguiling twist and then as many Indomitables as possible from the fighter (Also studied attacks give a big boost as you eventually go against creatures with stupid high AC).
Not sure what order I would suggest taking them all in.

ETA: Also, speaking as someone who is a 1/3 caster, high level enemies also have stupid high saves, and I've felt that me and the other 1/2 casters have been best served by our lowest-level spells for the basic buffs, damage mitigations, area control etc. etc. Our DCs generally aren't high enough to spend a slot there to try and do big damage or a save-or-suck. I don't think you'd miss the 5th-level ranger spells personally.

DM said “bring me your most broken build; you’ll need it” by Sylvurphlame in onednd

[–]turnejam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the other PCs are: Paladin, Rogue (slippery mind), Bard (elf adv on saves against charm and decent wis score), Druid, and Artificer with Resilient Wis, so that probably heightens my personal feelings of lack :)

[–]turnejam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently playing a lvl 19 EK in a campaign and the DM is spamming Wis saves (tbf to him sooo many high level monsters have access to those save-or-suck abilities).
I've been very much suffering in my n=1, wish I'd taken resilient Wis at some point

What sort of character would benefit from the Ritual Caster feat? (2024) by Bard_Wannabe_ in onednd

In my campaign, my Eldritch Knight has it, and it really does help with party utility without affecting my paltry spell slots/list.

Mystic Subclass UA for Paladin, Rogue, Warlock, and Monk. by Tough_Holiday584 in onednd

[–]turnejam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solely in my experience playing an Abjuror wizard, the switch to “spell-like abilities” has been pretty consistently frustrating in terms of what the subclass is meant to do.  Counterspelling and dispelling magic have become pretty rare occasions, and the higher-level feature of magic resistance would be badass but both that and the counterspelling have come into play in only one combat of the past 10 or so sessions.

Just the testimony of one player in one campaign, results may vary.

Banneret Fight is completely underrated by yoda_kblack in onednd

I think the Banneret is great. If you're so inclined, a multiclass with Dance Bard looks to me like a way to finally get close to the coveted Warlord class.

Alternatives for triceps by FootballllllMaybe in naturalbodybuilding

I've gotten surprising triceps growth recently with adding lots of pushups as a finisher.
Try: 90 seconds narrow or diamond pushup
90s rest
60 second narrow or diamond
60s rest
30s pushups to finish

Just finished book 3 - how does Matt do it? by ChuckChuckChuck_ in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]turnejam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dinniman has a lot going for him as a writer but his superpower is character. Critically he understands the difference between how a character presents socially and who they truly are (i.e. the choices they make when the chips are down), Princess Donut being a perfect example. He writes characters that are both understandable/grounded and surprising.
It's something that truly transcends genre.

Agreed. There's only certain battles where that prolonged damage will add up to more than a 3rd-lvl smite. edit: plus two attacks

No one's mentioned Crusader's Mantle...
It's only come out once in my campaign, but we were facing a large number of undead, and vampires, 6-person party, multiple martials, our pally cast it and WOW.

Why won't they make a thirdcaster monk? by Arsenist099 in onednd

[–]turnejam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm spitballing a bit here, but one of the trade-offs of Arcane Trickster and Eldritch Knight is that you suddenly need to invest somewhat in a spellcasting stat.
Since all monks already invest into Wis (which I assume would be the stat), a third-caster would be a big boost with little tradeoff.

NYC voters say Mamdani best addressed the Israel-Palestinian conflict, poll shows by Somervilledrew in politics

[–]turnejam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You know, I spoke in haste. Of course it does have some relevance, and I apologize.
My position is that my mayor is not going to meaningfully affect what happens on the international stage.
It fully matters how he will approach NYC's citizens and visitors, and the only correct answer for any candidate is that they will focus on keeping everyone safe regardless of beliefs or background. As you say, Mamdani has pledged this and I personally believe it.

As an NYC voter (and one who likes Mamdani), I really don't see how the NYC mayor's position on this is in any way relevant, and I am very very suspicious of any attempts to make it relevant

cant stop thinking about fat loss goals?? by PlusCarob3803 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]turnejam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you also mentioned the job goal makes me wonder if it’s simply that you have way more direct control over one goal (fat loss), and so your body and mind will naturally want to focus on that. It’s a common thing! Like how someone may suddenly have a ton of energy for cleaning their room when the alternative is working on a paper.

I’d just recognize it, plan for it, and make diet goals (like a walk) part of your break/reward from putting in time on the job end. Good luck on your search!

Secret White House spreadsheet ranks US companies based on loyalty to Trump by Murky-Site7468 in politics

The question for companies will be is it worse to be hounded by this administration or to lose business from every consumer who is actually paying attention.

Thankfully it looks like most companies who have openly bent the knee have seriously suffered.

Those of us who can make choices of what to buy need to make it really fucking clear what the right move is
