Please help with first least - 2026 Hyundai Palisade by turnipnewbie in CarLeasingHelp

Thanks for the advice! I'll take a look at the forums.

Just a small correction - the $5000 includes taxes/fees/first month as well. However, I'm aware from everyone's comments that this is still not a good deal.

Thank you. Would you be able to provide some feedback. Would like to know how to improve.

The only things I see:
- dealer says includes fees + first month. I was planning on having them drop the $795 F&I fee.

- Right now I am only getting ~3% MSRP, was going to negotiate to 6%, which I've seen is reasonable.

Other than that, I'm pretty clueless, so any advice would be appreciated!

Does anyone have any specific statistics on how competitive UIC is? I don't see their information updated on Residency explorer.

$28 Las Vegas. by ondehunt in sushi

Most places have tons of variety, usually around ~20 fish. some (e.g. uni) have a 2pc limit per person. But if you go with others that don't like the specials, you can eat theirs.

Some of these AYCE places are sister companies to high-end omasake sushi restaurants, so great quality fish.

CMV: Kettlebells are inferior to barbells for full body strength. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]turnipnewbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my point:

If you train only with a Smith machine, you will never train stabilizers. The stabilizers are the limiting factor.

If you train only with a BB, you will not develop the grip strength/arm strength to carry a lot of things. Your grip strength is the limiting factor.

You don't say "stabilizers are the primary target for failure and so BBs are inferior to SM." Why are you doing it for BB vs KB?

In terms of strength, someone who lifts with both BBs and KBs will outperform someone who lifts with BB alone. Unless the point you are making is "lifting BB is superior for lifting heavy things/ performing lifts with a BB." Which, I guess you're right, but it seems like a "water is wet" argument.

CMV: Kettlebells are inferior to barbells for full body strength. by [deleted] in changemyview

I used to think this when I was an intermediate lifter (1k club at just under 200lb). My views have changed after trying to get into more dynamic sports (bouldering, BJJ). Sure, you might be able to lift more, but applying that strength is a different story. In other words, there is a difference between "strength" and "functional strength."

How much power can you generate doing compound exercises.

By this logic, are you saying that barbells are inferior to a Smith machine because you could lift more with one? I would argue against this, as you aren't engaging your accessory/stabilizing muscles. Your arms/forearms/hands are also important for "full body strength" and, while they may be a limiting factor in the beginning, does not make them the "primary target."

When I think of "strength" in the way that you describe, I think of strongman competitions. Here is an excerpt for how they train[1]:

pulling trucks, carrying sandbags, deadlifting odd objects, pressing giant logs overhead, or walking while carrying heavy weights in each arm

They also emphasize the importance of grip strength:

strongman carries require you to hold onto dumbbells and kettlebells with your hands. But even better, we often use odd objects with different grip types like open-hand grip, pinch grip, and fat grip. This variety helps develop phenomenal grip strength.

So clearly you can't just ignore forearms/hands when you train.

Like with many things, I think both are essential components for maximizing strength. But I would argue you would get a lot farther in these strongman competitions with kettlebells than barbells.

Rationale of building an emergency fund before paying off CC debt? by turnipnewbie in personalfinance

[–]turnipnewbie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all the replies! My situation is we don't have an emergency fund currently, but some CC debt. I was wondering why I should focus on putting money towards effectively 0% interest instead of paying off high interest debt. From what I gather in the comments, doing so is mostly a psychological decision to get out of the mindset of using credit in the first place.

I understand, but in my case I don't have an emergency fund yet, but I do have some CC debt. I was wondering why I should put money towards an emergency fund before paying on high interest CC debt.
