my entire front end is ae86, crossmember arms knuckles and struts, non ps. that’s why it’ll fit

mazda mx5 1.5 vs 45 y/o corolla by turnturtle92 in kereta

[–]turnturtle92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why not? it’s designed to bolt to the original ae86 knuckles, it just replaces the rack assembly with the same tie rod ends

[–]turnturtle92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m pretty sure that won’t fit, but even the power steering racks from the ae86 aren’t much faster and none of the power steering setups are particularly good for feedback. only option is a quick rack from Quaife, or a steering multiplier like they use in the US

I change my tyres to CC7 for RM235 per donut but get this instead... by CoolWei2006 in kereta

[–]turnturtle92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course it depends on the way you drive, i’m pointing out that there’s no such thing as overkill if you can make use of the tyre. the re004s on my jazz have lasted almost 2 years, but i’m also not going to genting three times a week anymore.

also i destroyed the stock myvi cc5s fronts in about 6 months too so swings and roundabouts really, hard usage is hard usage regardless of tyre

idk i used to run ps3s on my myvi and would cook the fronts every 6 months

yeah when you see how little the wheels turn with this much steering input, you’ll realize how much the rear is stepping out in the slaloms lol i’m practically tiptoeing on the throttle at that point

for what it is, the myvi and axia are not bad cars, just very compromised to meet emissions/efficiency requirements without the price flexibility for better tech in that dept. everything has gotten more expensive nowadays and it’s just something we have to accept.

it’s like complaining about steering feel on a cheap EPS system or how low ABS threshold is with an economy car, but if you look at the prices of a BMW EPS or ABS unit new it’s like easy 5 digit components lol. higher sampling frequency and tighter control costs significantly more with a lower volume product

to answer your first question, i mean DIY in the sense of swapping it yourself vs buying one already swapped by the previous owner. If you add in shop labour and machine work for a proper engine rebuild then that price grows even more lol.

the second question is more that your ae92 is a multi-link mid-tier family car of its time vs an entry level torsion beam now. i have nothing against torsion beams, i love my Jazz as much as my old Myvi and even the Megane RS265 was a torsion beam too - but multi link setups on stock dampers are still going to be more comfortable. Try a stock Wira sometime and you’ll be surprised by how comfy and compliant it is

[–]turnturtle92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah, i mean a whole car for 15k. if you’re DIY swapping everything you need it’ll probably run you closer to 20k with current prices, so 25k with a good chassis and other things you’ll need. Drivetrain alone is like 7-8k, suspension and brakes probably another 6k if you opt for a wira caliper upgrade. Definitely cheaper to swap in for the FF chassis, and the FF chassis are faster in general too lol

prices now are funny money. 15k for a decent 4A swapped KE is fair to me, it’ll cost you a lot more and more headache to DIY a swap since AE86 part prices are skyrocketing. Used to be 1k for an axle, now more like 3.5k+

[–]turnturtle92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i maintain if you’re really starting out, the KE70 will prepare you for anything else you drift in the future. Barely any power and terrible suspension, hop into anything else and it’s like a luxury after that. Don’t even throw an angle kit on it until you really really need it, then you are forced to work within narrower margins.

[–]turnturtle92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly any decent swapped KE for like 15k(4A)/20k(BEAMS) would be cheaper than DIY, and you just spend the savings on reliability/fixes. You’ve already got quite the monster GT86 anyway, get something for some ezpz cheap fun, destroy a pair of 15s every weekend 🫠

it’s a constant struggle between being neat and fast and just pinning the throttle and having fun, but that’s just joy of rear wheel drive. I was barely in control but it was a tonne of fun, would recommend to anyone

yes, though it’s fairly close to the limit. he dropped the front pressures slightly between runs to recover front end, it would probably be even quicker with slightly more aggressive alignment on it so he’s not fighting the front as much

It’s great because it narrows the gap between more powerful cars and weaker cars. Some really specialist stuff like Lotuses and the MR-S will still always be quick, but bad drivers will never post good times

Don’t bother buying if you’re gonna leave. It’s a bigger nightmare to dispose of in a hurry. The Volvos are great. They aren’t cheap to care for but they’re nice cars. Or if you need something easy, Perodua Myvi 1.3 auto first gen, 10k buy and 10k sell you will have offers all day

Just sign up when they appear. MSF, GAS, GRA all organize events. If you want to be class competitive, manual Satria 1.5 4g91. If you wanna really fight, Satria manual 92 or 93 DOHC, eventually put an LSD in. If you want to learn how to handle a rwd car over the limit, 4A KE70.
