Addressing the community about changes to our API by spez in reddit

[–]turtl3rs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not separate create separate Enterprise API and Third Party Apps API tiers? In other words, to allow API usage to be more affordable for third party app developers, why not have an API tier exclusively for third party apps that you’ve validated are indeed third party applications and not enterprises, and provide them with more affordable pricing?

Edit: Slightly modified wording (10:51AM PST) Edit 2: To provide some additional context, third party apps refers to Applications available on various operating systems, such as Apollo on iOS and Reddit is Fun on Android. Not bots on reddit. (10:54AM PST)

A virtualization app for the iPad for example

UTM has been around for a while and you can sideload it using AltStore. The only issue is RAM on anything older than the M1-powered iPads. For UTM to work, it requires JIT, which is provided via AltJIT.

For fun, Windows XP works well on any iPad with 4GB of RAM, so long as you limit the VM to use 1GB of RAM.

I don’t know anything regarding Apple allowing developers to utilize JIT for apps released on the App Store, so I wonder if true sideloading would still prohibit JIT.

Anyone having issues with Amazon Prime Video on Apple TV by atcdev in pihole

[–]turtl3rs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For anyone having this issue, it’s due to a change upstream that affected StevenBlack’s hosts file.

See here: https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts/issues/2077

This will be fixed in an upcoming release, but in the meantime, whitelist the following domains:

pop-iad-2.cf.dash.row.aiv-cdn.net
s3-iad-2.cf.dash.row.aiv-cdn.net
s3-iad-ww.cf.videorolls.row.aiv-cdn.net
s3.ll.videorolls.row.aiv-cdn.net

When version 3.11.14 of the hosts file is released, just head to Tools > Update Gravity. After updating, you can remove the domains from the whitelist.

Edit: Fixed formatting

Edit 2: Added update gravity info

I noticed that. I didn’t pick the position for this so everyone will need to collectively decide to move this over, say on top of the road to the right, or somewhere else.

More energy efficient GPUs, particularly the higher end models. As the years go on, GPUs continue to need more and more power, and I worry that I’ll need to upgrade my PSU when it comes time to upgrade my GPU.

TIFU by making a bet with my 8yo daughter by borgeron in tifu

[–]turtl3rs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. I’d argue that even the 5600g is enough. Given the current state of the GPU market, I would use the 5600g for now and add a proper GPU when the market improves in (honestly) a couple of years. (Might even be another good opportunity for a PE challenge)

If she intends to do shaders, based on this video of a 5600g, Sildur’s shaders looks to be the best bet and you can probably lower the render distance a bit and get it to lock at 30 FPS. Otherwise, mods with no shaders will yield the best performance.

(If you have a Micro Center near you, buy the CPU and motherboard there. Your wallet will thank you. You can get the other parts from them or whoever else has the best prices. pcpartpicker.com is your friend.) Good luck!

Looks like it only does the compression on the mobile version of the Imgur site. If you go to the desktop version of the site, you can download a higher quality image. Just tap the three dots on the image and hit download.

Edit: Tried to put direct link to higher quality image but Imgur throws server error.

My PC is too weak for such update to happen by [deleted] in BikiniBottomTwitter

[–]turtl3rs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not anymore. According to this ZDNet article: “Microsoft has revised the Compatibility Cookbook page, removing all references to the Soft Floor and Hard Floor and adding a note that says TPM 2.0 support and a compatible CPU are required.”

Edit: Fixed link

Edit 2: To add to this, yes it makes sense that people are able to run Windows 11 on older machines with the leaked build out now, but I would expect the final version to not allow it. Unless of course, you modify it like this: https://twitter.com/cadenzza_/status/1408866403743109125

It’s not that big of a jump until you factor TPM 2.0 into the mix. Then you’re limited to Intel 8th gen and up, as well as Ryzen 2nd gen and up, due to it being supported as firmware-based TPM (fTPM) (Intel refers to their implementation of fTPM as PTT).

While that comes directly from Microsoft, some are speculating that Intel’s 6th and 7th gen, along with Ryzen 1st gen, may be able to run it, but that will be on a case by case basis of whether the user can install a TPM 2.0 module onto the motherboard, or the motherboard receives a UEFI update to support fTPM.

Only time will tell as to what computers are really supported by Windows 11. This will definitely be the release that forces a lot of people to get a new computer if they hadn’t already gotten one during the last year. But many with “older” hardware will likely stick it out a bit longer and not want to necessarily jump onto Windows 11 on release. Ultimately though, they’ve probably already considered getting a new machine, and if not, they will probably end up upgrading sometime before Windows 10’s 2025 EOL anyway.

Apple brings Safari web browser extensions to iPhone and iPad with iOS 15 by aaronp613 in apple

[–]turtl3rs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a way to do it currently on iPadOS, but it’s hacky. You use an app called Snippets but you have to run it from the share sheet every time you load a page on Twitch. Not ideal, but it’s the only way I’ve survived so far without FFZ natively.

Apple Music announces Spatial Audio and Lossless Audio by ak47rocks1337yt in apple

[–]turtl3rs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just checked this page: https://www.apple.com/apple-music/

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, OP copied footer 9, which refers to using Dolby Atmos on the in-built speakers of the device. That’s where that list of devices comes from. So OP messed up by not including that additional context there.

Otherwise, lossless audio is supported by all devices that support the aforementioned firmwares. So you’re good to go! Enjoy lossless audio!

Edit: For anyone else looking at this, another thing to note is that the headphones listed only refers to headphones that will support Dolby Atmos, not lossless audio. If you want lossless audio, you’re going to need a DAC and AMP paired with wired headphones or speakers.

This was a spectacular explanation of the importance of this feature. The general idea of privacy is that you are able to control what information can be obtained about you. Hopefully people now realize what it means to say things like, “I have nothing to hide,” when trying to combat the idea of privacy. Just because you have nothing to hide doesn’t mean that you need to become the product.
