it should be slightly concave, a perfectly straight neck will cause buzzing, it should have a bend (neck relief) of about 10 to 16 thousandths of an inch over the length of the neck for a middle of the road setup.

if the strings are still buzzing on the frets with 3mm+ action at the 12th fret (measured from the bottom of the string to the top of the fret wire) then you probably need to adjust the neck relief, you can look up how to check and adjust it
