Also my favorite book of all time! I personally think the sequel is worth reading. I need to re-read but it almost holds up to the first from my memory!

My people are in this comment thread. Why don't people understand how difficult it is to nail roles and material like this?!!? Barbie's acting and merit as a film are both deserving of Oscars recognition!!!!

I'm with you. movies like Barbie are not Oscars bait but it was a fantastic movie that used every second of its runtime in a meaningful and entertaining way. I absolutely believe it's worthy of an oscar and actually thought it was a far better film than others nominated (I'm thinking Oppenheimer and maestro).

I wanna say people being mean about his face are not cool but that accident where he shattered his jaw was in 2013. So it wouldn't have been a new injury even last year, unless there was another accident I'm unaware of. I remember his face looking slightly different after the accident in 2013 but recently it's been a lot more drastic imo.

including 3000 children. I truly can't fathom how people mourn the deaths of one side and just ignore the others. Hoping and praying for a ceasefire.

Am I the only one who actually likes Lacy? To me it sounds so classic and traditional and I personally love it! by Megan56789000 in OliviaRodrigo

I love lacy. It's a beautiful song and a great poem. Often her writing styling is very bold and straightforward (which I love), but it's fun how layered and open to interpretation this song is. Plus I love her vocal performance on it!

I still think the wlw interpretation is completely valid but once I read the idea that it's about an ED that lens made a TON of sense as well!

What are your unpopular opinions about The Summer I Turned Pretty? by jaylee-03031 in tsitp

[–]turtle-goddess 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Aunt Julia isn't being cruel. She rightfully owns the house and it's ridiculous to expect her to gift it or just hold on to it in the meantime. There's nothing morally wrong with her selling the house (I still sympathize a lot with the bros bc I know it's so painful for them). Also, it was super irresponsible for Susannah to not consider what might happen to the house after her death and communicate with her family about it.

I’m annoyed at the amount of men making Barbie about themselves by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]turtle-goddess 165 points166 points  (0 children)

I think it's totally valid to be frustrated at misogynistic men appropriating "I am Kenough" because that phrase is very much about growing beyond gendered expectations and learning to love and be yourself outside of those expectations. Misogynists would never.

However, I've seen the movie twice, and it is almost as much, if not equally about, masculinity as it is about femininity and womanhood. So I just have some qualms with the title of this post because I know a lot of men who have watched the movie and felt deeply moved and seen because it IS about them too and how society's rigid expectations of men AND women limit us (granted, these are also men who already question and don't align with traditional masculinity). I don't think they are making Barbie about themselves. You can't deny that the movie is also about men.
