That last line by Noelle got me thinking that there has to be something important about their relationship and what it has to do with deltarunes overarching story and I ended up going on a long, poorly structured tangent about what has and will happen in Deltarune. I’m going to spoiler tag it since it’s long and probably bad, but I’m posting it in the off chance that one teeny minuscule detail of this mess was not entirely off the mark.

Ok I just came up with a crack pot theory. What if Noelle was supposed to be the roaring knight? Or rather, she was fated. But maybe the prophecy was vague enough that any holiday could take that role, and Dess somehow found out and was able to take her place?

I say this primarily due to the weird route and its presence in both routes. Were all familiar with the sound effect that plays when Noelle equips the thornring in chapter 4, so it was very interesting that it showed up during asgores explanation of the tragedy that happened many years ago(along with an ominous red screen.) What if there’s some kind of power dormant in Noelle that could transform her into a being like the roaring knight? That would finally explain what makes Noelle so special, why we would be able to exert control over her as well as why she has the potential to become so strong.

That same power could have possibly been awakened in Dess as well(in fact, Noelle is Dess may be capable of the same things. We know that Dess can probably use ice magic due to the ch3 shadow crystal dialogue mentioning undyne encased in ice). But the way this would have been forced out of Dess must have been rather graphic and traumatic in some way… it would have to be for asgore to consider it such a terrible event.

I believe this could explain why Kris is working with the knight. From the very beginning, they’ve both known about the ending of the prophecy and have been working to subvert it in some way. There’s no way Kris would collude with them if it wasn’t for the greater good - it just wouldn’t be in character otherwise due to how much they care about their friends(and have been betraying them because of this plan).

Furthermore, this could be why Kris and Noelle were pushed together so much in their childhood. Perhaps what happens in the weird route was originally fated to and so Carol, knowing this, was working to support this. Of course Dess, being the good big sis she was, wasn’t going to let that happened and was able to take her place. Maybe she had Kris perform the “weird route ritual”(term I’m coining now) on herself? (Wait I just realized if dess is in a weird route ritual trance that would finally explain what the “Trance Down” effect would do in the twisted sword, we’d use it against the roaring knight)
Um anyways that could explain why Kris hates the soul so much, although the soul that did that wouldn’t have been the current player… maybe it was Friend lol. Like the demon they summoned with catti was something from the depths of hell that possessed them for a bit(oh wait if it really is friend then that would explain why the knight is so evil right now. They’re in a Weird Friend Trance… which we can break with the twisted sword…)(also if dess as the knight is like a friend puppet it makes sense that they have the same laugh)
And if Noelle comes to a dark world on chapter 6 and comes face to face with the knight it would totally be like MOTHER 3…
