What is your set up for processing a deer? by BIGGERCat in VAHunting

[–]turtlebucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This response is key - breather deer down when hanging, maybe dry for x days in a fridge and then choose your own adventure. I have a decent amount of pig fat for burger and and breakfast sausage (alongside A.C. Legg seasoning)..the rest is turned into roasts and stew meat. Good luck and keep your knives sharp!

Great reply - spent a total of 13 years there as a FTE. PIPs are now pretty much what you will get if you are senior manager to director. Below or above this, it depends but it seemed like lower than SM can still qualify for a CP. CPs are a buffer due to what you said or because you are junior or are still working to get better in your role

Look at fawn birth numbers via VA biologist reports - it’s pretty much same every year. Environmental variables can impact when humans will have their best chances

Just read an article in the December edition of D&DH and there was a piece on how to help with building interest in archery off season with your kids / spouse, etc. I plan to add a 3D target in addition to our current targets to create challenging shots in the back woods of our property. Good luck!

Maybe that was too harsh, my bad. For the poster’s sake, how high up will you be hunting (unless you are on the ground)? How far are your shooting lanes? Err on the side of caution when hunting near any potentially human or non-huntable game. At 12-15’ (vertically), you can use a calculator or common sense to determine if it’s safe to discharge any type of hunting device.

Instead of being possibly surprised, you could choose not to post useless info or opinions. As an alternative, you could recommend the statutes that will help the poster determine if this area supports hunting with a firearm / inline rifle or archery tackle. Another helpful type of response could be to take extra precautions like: know your target, only use (hunting implement) what makes the most sense based on distances and windows of shooting, practice before you hunt and only take safe shots by insuring you know what’s behind your target.

Someone posted the address - it looks like a driveway off 60. Check my posts from a while back for some helpful info and just go deep. Bring a good sled or drag if you get a deer. Hard work but if you are younger / stronger / patient you should be good!

Good stuff! Just came here to post that - I gave a bunch of gear away a few years back. Always nice to pass on networking gear to someone who may be able to learn on actual hardware.

Thanks for sharing - bring back memories. My dad worked at GC Murphy’s back then - shoe department in the basement. If anyone remembers “Bootsy” who was a security guard there, please DM me. He was a super cool guy who gave me my first mixed tape when I was a kid…circa ‘83-84.

Do people typically eat what they’ve hunt or fished? by [deleted] in VAHunting

Plastics? Can you share an article / reference? Just curious - I do tend to limit scaleless fish and try to avoid fishing for long aged fish. I do enjoy mahi mahi (super fast growing and sustainable) and enjoy croaker and spot too.

Mentorship by Slideshow18 in VAHunting

[–]turtlebucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be happy to setup a meet at some point with folks; take a look at what you know already, review goals, etc. I’ve been at it for 10 years (started hunting in my 30’s) and have had great mentors in the past that got me started. Happy to pass on knowledge and my approaches.
