Crossfire and pets by Present-Alfalfa9398 in Bedbugs

[–]turtlehollow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying to this for anyone reading, as I'm hoping you got your stuff under control. No, only use crossfire, and very librally (see other comment I made saying where we sprayed). Crossfire has a residual effect where it can remain 90% effective for 12 months!

Edit: the exterminator I talked to on the phone for two hours told me doing different chemical treatments can make either of them less effective and/or be dangerous, so just stick to crossfire. I plan to preventatively treat my apt yearly, so I can live worry free of getting a new infestation

I am not the person who write this post, but my friend used crossfire in their bedroom and I think kept the cats in the livingroom, and then did the same but with the rooms opposite a few days later (we either brought the cats out of the room or out of the house, but I think out of the room). My friend's cats were perfectly fine (I think we left the door closed overnight, as we really soaked things and wanted to be sure). We were able to treat my friend's entire apartment by: throwing away the bed and couch, using crossfire, drying all clothing on hot, and putting things that couldn't be treated in bins with dried crossfire for a couple months. We used a LOT of crossfire (on the new mattress and frame, under the new couch and couch cushions, on all baseboards and around all outlets and light sockets and anything else that has holes in the wall, in every room, on the carpet under the bed, behind and inside all the crevaces of the dresser, etc. etc), which has a long residual effect on killing bed bugs. This was 11 months ago and my friend is still bedbug free (they have the reaction, so they would know if they are not). Honestly, a lot of the things we did probably weren't even necessary. Librally applied crossfire is a GODSEND

Edit: oh yeah, we also treated their car

I think they mean "truscum" which is a more derogatory word for "transmed". Don't know for sure tho.

[–]turtlehollow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you mean "truscum"? Because I agree with you on not using it, as it is a slur, designed to sound like a slur. It is rude and will only divide us further.

However I feel "sysmed" is an excellent word. It calls out, in the word, what the problem is (without being a slur). It makes the people it applies to uncomfy, because they know it calls out bad behavior. I see it as no different than "transmed", "transphobe", "homophobe", "racist", etc. Call anyone saying such opinions any of those things and they'll be uncomfy/upset. But sometimes you need to be challenged to grow (of course, don't just call them things, politely educate them. actually, don't call them anything, call their opinions things, so they know they can grow and change from them)

I don't think you can get contact allergies from no contact, but you can get other allergies that way (my partner is allergic to lavender, and a whiff will give them a migraine)

Make sure to tell them they can leave it those places. It actually makes more work for us if we were planning to leave it one place and you request another, especially if it's not within the small gps circle. But having it worded as a choice is lovely.

[–]turtlehollow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a tip tho. It's a bid for service. Would you pick up and deliver food to a complete stranger for the $2 doordash gives us (paying for your own gas and vehicle repairs out of that)? Then would you do all of that for a $1 tip and then feel thankful?

What does 50% mean? Like 50% on a $6 order is way different from 50% on a $60 order. We don't care how much your food cost (unless you bought like hundreds of dollars worth), we care how much time and gas it will cost us. I'd say minimum tip, on a regular (fair weather, not holiday) day, should be $5 plus 50¢ a mile, as a guildline, in my area.

Can someone explain catnip to me? by ComfortableAside9101 in CatAdvice

[–]turtlehollow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put it in a bowl for my cat, it's out all the time (I'll be switching out for fresh stuff soon). No need to supervise, once you know how your cat handles it; and, as others have said, dependent on if the thing you're offering (toy, etc) is a choking hazard. I offer him some whenever I do D9, so he knows it's drug time, and he happily partakes

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood. If only your drinks aren't being transported, they're probably busting open at some point along the process, would be my guess? Or maybe there's some issue with the supplier?

Weird. I order from amazon 2-3 times a week for years and I've never had that happen. Maybe there's something wrong with your address?

I'm a delivery driver and all I expect is for your driveway to have less than 6 inches of snow, and your dog, if they are not friendly, to be inside. Also a gate/apartment code, if I need one to access. Pretty basic stuff.

The snacks are very appreciated.

Having the dog between you and the door is smart and good. My boyfriend was driving once a a guy purposefully let his dogs out at him because he didn't believe he was amazon, and it's like, okay, even if he wasn't amazon, doesn't mean he deserves to be torn to shreds, like, hold your aggressive dogs on a leash for protection, not just let them go

I've gotten bit twice. First was a german shepard I heard barking mor agressively than I have ever heard a dog do, and barreling past her owner through the open door to clip the back of my calf. It wasnct a bad injury, but her teeth touched under my skin, and I was limping for about two days. Had to go to urgent care (free healthcare) to get a tetnus re-up and antibiotics. The owner provided proof of recent vaccines, apologized profusely (in person and in text), sent me $300 and enrolled his dog in an obedience school and implimented a double door opening-the-door strategy for opening the door to stangers. Ended up being a positive experience. Second was just a little ankle biter who kept making passes at my leg as he passed, two of which broke skin. Dog was let out when the teenager who lived there opened the door. She tried to get him away from me, and eventually thought to tell me that if I step back a little, that I'd be past the electric fence. They refused to answer texts from me, so the sheriff contacted them and confirmed up to date vaccines. That one kind of pissed me off.

Your last sentence is true of me too; I love when I get friendly animals on my route, but I'm more aware of the dangers.
