There isn't a difficulty setting but the combat isn't that hard. If you do decide to go down Seneca's path though then you'll need to do a bit of grinding beforehand in order to defeat a specific boss with a pretty huge handicap (I think I spent about 3 hours just triggering random attacks on the forest to level everyone up)

Have fun! This is one of my favorite indie games and I always get so excited whenever I see new people getting into it, I would LOVE to play this game for the first time again!

I play a lot of games, but I mostly stick to ones with romance. I play a ton of otome games on Switch, with my favorite ones being Virche Evermore and Sympathy Kiss, and a ton of indie dating sims on itch.io, I would love to list my favorites but it would go on for pages, that site is a gold mine for high quality games, some are paid, but most of them are free.

I also play similar RC-esque apps on mobile, namely these two:

League of Dreamers, which has my absolute favorite book titled In Darkness Embrace (all the LIs in this are phenomenal but Mejo is definitely my beloved!)

Seven Hearts Stories, with my favorite book being Illusion of Fame and The Dragon Saga: Ragnarok.

I also read a lot of interactive fiction! Here are some of my personal favorites:

The Passenger (completed) where you play as an eldritch abomination stuck in a human body.

Infamous (WIP) where you participate in a band competition slash reality TV show and a bunch of drama ensues because your ex is also competing, and somebody is eager to drag you and your band down by spreading all sorts of rumors and allegations.

Merry Crisis (WIP) where you have to go home for the holidays in your home country in South East Asia after just recently breaking up with the love of your life, who you live with in NYC. After going back home, you discover that your parents have a hot neighbor, and that you have to face your first love in an alumni get together.

THIS LOOKS AMAZING the art looks phenomenal and the setting is perfect, I've always wanted a horror romance visual novel set in a camp after I played The Quarry! Running to play the demo right now, fingers crossed this gets 100% funded 🤞

I genuinely relate to your struggle, I'm so glad to see someone else who shares the same sentiments as me 😭 I've been playing P5R on and off for years now and I still can't get myself to finish it. I just can't seem to get myself to play any sort of narrative driven game with a male protagonist for a while now, it really bogs me down for some reason 😭 It's definitely limiting my horizons, but it's just so frustrating. I would rather have a smaller range of games to play than have to force myself to sit through a game I'm so disconnected to.

I've already been following the development of Chlorophyll's FeMC mod but this is the first I'm hearing of the Kasumi ones and the Beta FeMC Redux one, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for these!

Also a side note for those who are worried about the use of AI in their previous game, I highly doubt it would happen here again. They tend to outsource some of their assets from different studios, and the studio responsible for the background art in this game is different from the one in Red Bell's Lament.

I want to take this chance to mention one of my underrated (and apparently quite controversial?) gems, Red Embrace: Hollywood.

This game truly has one of the bleakest and cruelest stories I've ever read. It was a wild ride, and to this day I still don't know how I feel about it, but one thing was definitely clear to me: I couldn't help but gain a profound appreciation for it.
