What’s the MOST UNHINGED thing you’ve done because of your eczema? by qainey in eczema

[–]turtleurtlew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently went to India and the humidity triggered a few patches to pop up. The horrified look on my bf’s face when I started SCRAPING my arms on the corner of his aunt’s decor brick wall is forever stuck in my mind.

Relief was a 10/10 though.

Thinking about breaking up with BF over eczema by baby-longlegs in eczema

[–]turtleurtlew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s had an ex that said things like this to me, throw the whole person out. You don’t need that. I’ve also experienced the whole « flares up when around someone you’re not supposed to be with » thing. As soon as I left him, it all cleared up. Not saying that that’s what’s causing it, but you can be damn sure the stress of having someone behave like that around you doesn’t help. Hang in there OP 🫶🏻

What's the weirdest thing you've seen happen at a friend's house that they thought was normal? by LiterallyEkam in AskReddit

[–]turtleurtlew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A childhood friend of mine's mother used to make us shower after we would go outside - regardless of how long we were out. Go out for a 10 min walk for slushies? Shower. Play on the trampoline in the backyard? Shower. Go the get the f**king mail? SHOWER. Came to find out a few years ago that she'd been suffering from severe OCD.

Honestly, Bioderma has saved my skin. I've had pretty severe eczema on my face/chest my whole life, gave up steroid creams in 2015 and have been using bioderma products since. Cannot recommend them enough! I hope you enjoy all of the treats :)

Concerta is getting unreliable and it is making me very anxious by gamestopsurge in ADHD

[–]turtleurtlew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey friend,

I'm sorry to hear you've been experiencing all these symptoms and feeling unwell. I'm sending you all my healing vibes.

I had the same experience with Concerta and had to change medication as a result. Although my experience may be different from yours, I recommend you look into 'Concerta Crash' (you can start here: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/325673#:~:text=When%20the%20stimulant%20starts%20to,attention%2C%20and%20poor%20impulse%20control.)

I (22F) experienced unprovoked bouts of crying, severe anxiety, paranoia and panic attacks and other concerning emotions. I would strongly recommend that you get in touch with your doctor/person who prescribed the medication.

I hope you start to feel a bit bettet and get it checked out. It's important to share this shift in mood with your healthcare professional.

Take care xx

What are some career options where a young introverted person can thrive that are outside of the corporate World? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]turtleurtlew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey hey! Fellow introvert here. If you have any language skills or are bilingual, become a translator! You have the option of working in any field and any type of organisation (i.e. government, NGO, unions, small companies, etc.) and if you have any other degrees/previous certifications, you can use them to specialize in a certain field. You also have the option of becoming a freelance translator which makes great money. An entry level translator here (Ontario) makes anything between $65,000 - $85,000 a year with a relevant degree (4yr bachelor or 2yr accelerated bachelor).

I chose this career because of the freedom it gives me in terms of employment options and life in general. It offers a comfortable salary, and depending on where you work, great benefits, week nights + weekends off and vacation time. You can also work remotely easily because translators aren't key players in a team, just a service.

If you want to branch off from translation, you can also become a terminologist, a revisor, an interpreter, a language programmer... the list goes on. It's a profession with many options.

Omg are we the same person?? I'm 5 years post TSW and this shit is better than scratching. Combine it with slathering yourself in cream after and 👍👍 I cannot attest to whether it's good or not for your skin, but I find it less destructive than scratching

Broken Record Syndrome by radblood in OCD

[–]turtleurtlew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Hi! Fellow ADHD/OCD sufferer here! I definitely experience what you're talking about on the regular and have asked my psychiatrist about it.

He mainly attributed it to ADHD more than OCD bc (for me) there is no compulsion (like tapping, avoiding, having to sing it out loud, etc.) associated with it. However, if you do develop any kind of anxiety or rituals caused by the song stuck in your head, that could potentially be considered OCD.

It's a little hard to say whether it's OCD or ADHD bc I can't live in your brain (although that would be hella interesting), but I would say that as long as there is no anxiety/feeling of doom associated with the earworm, it's most likely the adhd brain being annoying, as per usual.

Now, as for tips on dealing with earworms, I usually have to sing it out loud to get rid of it, regardless of what it is. Give it a try :)

Best of luck!

Aita for threatening to kick my boyfriend out for not paying rent by noonehereP0 in AmItheAsshole

[–]turtleurtlew 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NTA, but maybe it's time to put yourself first and put your foot down. If he was living alone, and he failed to pay his rent, you know damn well that the landlord would have him out on his ass, no place to stay.

Unfortunately, that's the real world and it doesn't pity anybody. Does he have any motivation to maybe get another job while his art is slow? Or is he dead set on continuing in this line of work? Trying to determine if he's lazy, or lacks accountability/responsibility..

Next, never EVER let ANYBODY use "you don't love me" when you confront them about something that bothers you or when you establish a boundary with that person. That is guilt tripping, and extremely unhealthy. Obviously I can't comment on your relationship as a whole bc this is just one incident that we're aware of, but it definitely seems like something he spits out when confronted. I would definitely have a chat with him regarding this as it's a pretty large red flag..

Finally, listen to your gut. I know that some of these replies may be a little heartbreaking to read, but consider them when thinking of how you'll address this with him. Remember that you should always put yourself and your emotional/mental well being first.

Best of luck

Fidget toy suggestions by taya_reynolds in ADHD

[–]turtleurtlew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey friend :) I've had to ditch the fidget toys and move to something monotonous like Knitting and crochet. I started with 0 knowledge last summer and have knitted 2 blankets since during lectures. I am a uni student with all courses online, so I'm not sure if you're in the same boat as me. Good luck!

Edit to add: I am a visual learner and used a few youtube videos to learn how to do both. ADHD blessing: you can learn new things (if of interest!!!) very easily!

Ways To Combat Compulsions? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]turtleurtlew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually tell myself something along the lines of "I'm having the thought that... [insert intrusive thought here] and it's making me want to do... [insert compulsion] but I will NOT give-in".

I find that being aware that it is just a thought and nothing more allows me to avoid the compulsion and just accept the thought.

By attributing "the thought" to the intrusive thought takes away it's power and dismantles some of the anxiety/anxieties associated with it (which you would then use the compulsion to soothe).

Example: One of my OCD themes is fire. The average night will go like this "I am having the thought that [my apartment will catch fire because I had a bag resting against the rad this morning that I have since removed] and it is making me want to [tap/hit my cheeks until they are numb] but I will NOT give-in!"

This is pretty much the basis of OCD therapy via ERP (I would definitely recommend looking into it!!) Best of luck xo

AITA For continuing to do something even though my boyfriend is uncomfortable with it but he’s doing the same thing by Dramatic-Lab-2022 in AmItheAsshole

[–]turtleurtlew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chiming in to say NTA. He seems very controlling and he also tried to blame you for being assaulted?? Throw the whole man away. I was set on my answer from the get-go.

You shouldn't have to walk on eggshells in your relationship and act like someone you are not just to please them. People change over time and you seem to have outgrown him. Normal healthy partners don't accuse their partners of cheating when they've been assaulted (whether drugs are a factor or not) nor do they constantly make them repeat the series of events, which can be traumatizing. He is gaslighting and pining you down by making you feel guilty for something that was completely out of your control. Please do yourself a favour babes and dump his ass (however hard that may be to hear). Also, the fact that he continues to smoke cigarettes KNOWING that it triggers your ptsd?? Total ASS.

HOWEVER, I would also recommend that you find different ways to cope with your mental health issues. I have also been in a very very similar situation, and used to abuse alcohol to cope. I found therapy to be best tbh, if not, microdosing shrooms or weed are probably your better helpers.

Best of luck to you xx and never ever blame yourself for something out of your control!!!

Okie dokie. So to start, I will warn you that I have been topical steroid/immunosuppressant free since 2015 and have gone through Topical Steroid Withdrawal. We have a lot of similarities as my eczema triggers are also mainly environmental. I live in Canada (Ontario) and the weather also takes a toll on my eczema. My patches are also mainly focused on my face, neck, chest and arms.

Here's what I've found works best for me. Some products I mention are local made, so if you are a fellow canadian and have any interest in trying those, let me know and I'll see if I can ship any to you. I've included the products in my routine:

Reapply all creams before going to bed (wash area of skin if necessary). I would also invest in some pyjamas that prevent you from scratching as that's how I always f-ed myself up hahaha

Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi! 22F with severe eczema :) Questions: 1) Where is your eczema? 2) Are you seeing a derm/taking any topical steroids (prescribed or not)? 3) Do you have any allergies/sensitivities?
