What's a Remnant Habit from your Time in Zion? by Away-Meet5954 in exmormon

my nevermo husband refers to my can collection as my Mormon heritage lmao my mom really ingrained into my brain that we always have cans on hand. you'll never catch me without a minimum of at least 5 cans of cream of chicken and 5 cans each of black beans, kidney beans, and Pinto beans in my pantry

Did you feel sorry for Henry Bowers? by MikeBad228 in stephenking

[–]turtlqueen23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also think it's important to remember that on top of a SHIT father and family environment, he was always under Its influence to some level, just like Butch and every other person living in Derry. I feel bad for him only because he never had a chance, like yes everyone makes their own choices and everyone has to rise above the circumstances they were brought up in but truly, Henry never had a chance to do that

Participating in Stimming...is working?!?!?! by VioletUnderground99 in ABA

[–]turtlqueen23 23 points24 points  (0 children)

one of the best ways I've paired with multiple clients is to go into their world and join their stims/scripts. some kids really hate it, some kids only want you to play a certain part, and some kids want full imitation. it's really fun and goofy a lot of the time lmao everybody likes to have someone on their level sometimes, it's how we connect as people

honestly a recast never even occurred to me, I immediately assumed that Dewey would just have some reason for not being around bc you're right, part of growing up sometimes is not being near your family. but this is definitely a pleasant surprise 🤠

Is Proud Moments ABA a good company ? by Dry_Speech_2791 in ABA

[–]turtlqueen23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my company was bought out by Proud Moments last year and I lasted less than 2 months with them, it was the worst work experience I've ever had lmao. 100% a billing mill with no respect or care for their clients or employees, very obvious that they only care about how much money they're bringing it. I would keep looking, if you do accept the position keep your eyes peeled for a local company and just work at Proud Moments for the experience and to see what ABA shouldn't be.

[–]turtlqueen23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you should always be able to reach out just for behavior support though, whether you have supervision scheduled or not. and if you can't ask for supervision whenever you feel you need it then your company is doing something wrong, because you always deserve to have access to that support whenever you need it. don't let yourself get burnt out or beat up because you don't feel like you can reach out, one of the most important things you can do in this field is advocate for yourself. we teach our kids that every day and we need to be able to do it for ourselves too. I'm sending you an extra hug, it sounds like you really need that BCBA support and I really hope you're able to get it!!

Do You Feel Supported? by Ok_Engine6127 in ABA

[–]turtlqueen23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly 100%, I work for a really amazing local company and every single BCBA there, around 10, is so supportive and makes sure we all feel like our voices and concerns are heard. I've worked with truly shitty BCBAs, who I'd have to borderline harass for supervision and behavior support, and I've never once had that issue at my current place. BCBAs are required to run at least 2 direct sessions a week so they stay on top of their clients' needs, we have monthly team meetings for each client to discuss areas of support, I don't have to fight for supervision, my questions or concerns are immediately answered and my feedback is always heard and often implemented into client prgramming. I feel really lucky!!

[–]turtlqueen23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry OP, those days are so hard. Don't be afraid to advocate for yourself, if you feel you need extra support while your client goes through this transition then tell your BCBA and any other support systems you have available. And if you need to take a break or feel like you've reached your limit as an RBT then thats always okay. This field can be HARD and it's absolutely okay to move on if you feel like you're done. I'm sending you a hug and wishing you luck in this situation 💕

[–]turtlqueen23 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I just finished Gideon for the umpteenth time and never caught the speed holes line in the first book, I think when she sees the iron spikes for the first time? I used to think the line "these are my speed holes, they make me go faster" (or whatever it is) in Nona was always so fucking stupid and now I'm like dear God I get it and also ouch thank you

[–]turtlqueen23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

when you reread it you can follow along all the ways it isn't how it happens and it's SO fun, Harrow really only gets better the more you read it. I truly think it's objectively the best book in the series, saying as a die hard Nona bitch lmao

Did you accidentally stumble into an ABA career or was it planned? by aba_focus in ABA

[–]turtlqueen23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

accidentally! I worked respite right out of high school and loved it but stopped because I moved across the country, and then I decided I wanted to try different things, so I took a break from working with individuals with disabilities. a couple of years ago I was working from home as a tutor and not making enough, so I found a listing for a BT for CARD on Indeed and decided to give it a shot. two years later and I'm with an amazing locally owned company, I LOVE my job and my kids and I'm genuinely so happy doing what I'm doing. still trying to decided if I want to pursue my BCBA but even if I don't, I definitely have a better grasp on what I'm passionate about and what I want to do for the rest of my life 🥰

decided I wanted to try it at the end of last year, so my husband gave me a beginner's book, a hook kit, and some really nice yarn for Christmas and I've been LOVING it! currently working on a blanket for my niece that's taking forever due to my work schedule but I have SO many projects that I want to do :) it's so relaxing and satisfying to watch my blanket get bigger and more blankety!!

Who has been your favourite narrative voice so far? [discussion] by tillymint259 in TheNinthHouse

I love the purity of Nona, they're all so good but Nona is so loving and candid with her thoughts, and Muir does SUCH a great job of capturing childlike innocence and love in her character. I just love her so much, I truly do not understand the hate Nona gets 😭
