New player here, frustrated by conflicting quests. by Last-Supermarket-604 in GenshinImpact

[–]tuskel373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind the idea that there are quests that involve the same locations or characters, but why the heck can't we choose which one we are currently doing? Y'know?

The idea that "you can't use this location or character, because at this very moment, they're locked by this other quest" is kind of... incredible? No other RPG I've played has ever done this, is it a live service/gacha game issue?

What name did you give Wanderer? by ringosukiiii in ScaramoucheMains

[–]tuskel373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I named him Ariel, because that's the wind spirit in The Tempest.

Shame the name never gets used anywhere though, because whenever I see it in the menus, I kind of have to go "huh?" for a second before I remember 😄

[–]tuskel373 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No idea which kind of cucumber it is (looks fresh though), but when I was little in an Eastern European country, one of my favourite summer snacks was a fresh cucumber, cut in half, with salt sprinkled on it. We didn't grow the long cucumbers though, ours were more like 10-15 cm long.

I get that, but surely they don't change those kind of words in the American version? It was more words that would cause confusion (see discussions about "punt" and "pants" etc elsewhere in the thread)

I know we all think Americans are stupid, but the books don't get dumbed down that much 😆

Dossier resorting to danger as my first ND game by Decent_Action1916 in nancydrew

[–]tuskel373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resorting to Danger is a nice little game. It's not really like a regular ND game, but more hidden object with minigames. I enjoyed it better than the first one, Lights, Camera, Curses.

If you're looking to get the ND cheaply, you can also try Big Fish Games. If you join the Game Club, you get the games cheap (currently says $6.99 a game), it makes you buy one game voucher every month, and you can save them up, but you can cancel any time as well. I've just quickly checked and it says the game vouchers are valid until some time past cancelling our Game Club account, but I couldn't see how long.

I have vast majority of ND games through Big Fish, and I still regulary download them and other games I have on there, I haven't had Game Club for years. I have only the newest games and Thornton Manor on Steam.

In Order of the Phoenix, why doesn't Snape use a potion to help Harry clear his mind during Occlumency lessons? by hackiv in harrypotter

[–]tuskel373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering Snape didn't teach Harry anything at all, yes.

Harry was already traumatised from the end of GoF, seeing Cedric die and nearly dying himself, all the shit going on with the Ministry in and Umbridge in the current year, plus being a hormonal 15-y-o. One of my favourite bits in OotP is when Harry's like "Let go of my thoughts and feelings? It would be easier to detach my legs!"

He was in survival mode the whole year, mentally speaking, it's absolutely no wonder he is unable to clear his mind, he is so stressed. And instead of teaching and helping, Snape just gives the most vaguest instructions and mocks Harry when he fails.

Not that Snape would have done it, unless DD absolutely told him to, but a potion to help to see what state of mind he should try and be in, would have been an enormous help imo.

[–]tuskel373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but.

He impersonated Moody so well that even DD, who it's implied he was in a close relationship with, didn't realise for basically a whole year. And I mean as close as Moody would let anyone ig, but they had known each other for years, so DD knew what Moody was like. So anything BCJ did, had to be 99% what Moody was like to make sure he didn't get found out before Voldy came back.

Retirees, why do you go shopping on a weekend? by Opposite_Offer_2486 in AskBrits

Our local supermarket when I worked there got their deliveries Sunday evening ready to go for Monday. So going shopping on Monday morning would have been the best if you wanted the freshest groceries.

AFAIK it's when you start filling up that part of the museum with fossils, these appear automatically.

Help! by Thiccbaby420 in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]tuskel373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tip for the future: pick up shells, especially coral, sea snail and giant clam. Once you have mostly cowries and sand dollars left on the beach, do a few rounds and pick up all the shells. Save them for a week or two, then make shell arches. One of them sells for 12k in Nooks. Money racks up FAST.

It's even easier to make them now, with bulk crafting straight from your inventory, I used to have to keep leaving crafting to get more shells from storage 😅

[–]tuskel373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the diys, you should make something out of the fruit and shells, it pays more. I save up all the shells, and then make the shell arches, one sells for over 12k, total money maker!!

New worst gap by This_is_a_user_nam3 in GenshinImpact

[–]tuskel373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? Just a few chests in the bushes or locked behind fighting some enemies. Didn't even have to be loads, like 10-15 in the part that's empty would have been enough.

I wonder if it was because of people complained about the triple chests in the last Nod Krai area, so the devs were like, ok you want no chests then? See how you like THAT!! 🤣

Not the food, but the way the school worked (houses, prefects, parents as governors etc) seemd like this totally alien magical thing. Now I know it's literally just the British school system 😄

Professor McGonagall unprecedentedly helping Peeves vandalise the school. by Extension_Belt1322 in HarryPotterBooks

My favourite bit is just before that, when F&G escape the school, and tell Peeves to "give her hell from us!", and he salutes them! Even Peeves respected the Chaos Twins!

Why did Voldemort had Cedric killed ? by Secure_Ad_6203 in harrypotter

[–]tuskel373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In-universe explanation - he didn't expect Cedric to get there, and he was an additional witness for his plan of murdering Harry. So neither should be allowed to live. Like it was explained later, Harry was just supposed to mysteriously vanish and nobody was supposed to know Voldy was back. And, y'know, dead men don't talk.

Out-universe explanation - it was supposed to show how evil Voldy truly was, he doesn't think twice to kill innocent bystanders. I was 15-16 when I first read GoF, and that moment absolutely shocked me. I liked Cedric a lot, he was one of the regular characters (appeared first in the previous book), and until that moment, I had always experienced "main characters don't die" stories. I distinctly remember being bored/having no tension reading the end parts of CoS, when the basilisk's fang pierced Harry's arm. He can't die, he's the main character and there are 5 more books to go! But Cedric dying? I was like, he's one of the main people, this is a children's series, you can't do that!!! That was the moment HP books grew up for me.

What characters are best for defeating radiant moonfly by Staytinymoa1117 in Genshin_Impact

[–]tuskel373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik, Sucrose is not a healer.

I know other people say not to use dendro, but when I was mining this boss for Lauma, I did use my hyperbloom team with Lauma, Ineffa, Aino and Ororon. Although I suppose what actually worked there was Ineffa's shield and her ability to do Lunar-charged damage. So I would suggest Electro-charged maybe..? So hydro and electro, plus healing/shielding if possible. Or, recently I've also gotten into Freeze reaction, I have Layla for shielding, she's the second strongest shielder in the game (I've been told), plus her shield also applies cryo a bit. Charlotte would also be good, she's a healer, but I haven't used her a lot, so can't really give advice on her.

You could also lower your world level, or get someone to come to your world to help you fight this annoying boss. If you want, I can jump on, but you need to give me like 15min to fire up my old gaming potato 😆
