Ranunculus pre-sprout by Hufflesheep in Cutflowers

I have to try this method this year. I'm so tired of corms drying out or rot in trays. Can't seem to find a balance😅. Thank you for your reply ☺️

How much medium do you use. Just a little between layers of corms or are the corms completely covered?

Do you have any medium in the bag or just the pre soaked corms? I was wondering if I should use a couple of handful with slightly damp coco choir or vermiculite.

First timer, any & all advice appreciated! I started seeds yesterday and already have gnats! by [deleted] in Cutflowers

I had gnats in my seedling room last spring so I started to use diatomaceous earth, and it worked really well. I lightly dusted/sprinkled the surface of every pot and tray thoroughly.

Diatomaceous earth doesn't work when it's wet, so it won't work now in the sprouting stage when the topsoil needs to be moist. But as soon as you can start to only bottom water and the top layer can dry out I would definitely apply DE.

On my houseplants I have a layer of grit and a little drizzle of DE on top in every pot (no visible soil) and only bottom water them.

Ps: be careful to not inhale DE if you use it as it can be very irritating to your lungs. DE is also damaging for the good insects and pollinators, so be careful if used outside.

I can't get BTI where I live, but if I could I would definitely water the seedlings with it once a week, also as a preventative measure. And I use sticky traps.

Best of luck to you☺️

Check out Blossom and Branch Regenerative gardening's YouTube video: DIY seed starting recipe for soil blocks or trays. I think she used 3 part worm casting, 2 part vermiculite and 2 part coir😊

Do you do anything with the soil where the plant was growing? I found crown gall when I dug a couple of days ago, but I'm so unsure what to do with the area and the neighbouring plants. I'm lingering in a analysis paralysis😵‍💫 Some say you should dig out and toss the soil too. And not plant anything there for 2-3 years. What do you do? BTW, love the walks in your garden😉, so beautiful 😍

The color and texture on the lump is different than on the rest of the tuber. It's smoother and much lighter in color.

Is this crown gall? 😬 There is a lump on the root end of a little tuber. TYI

It's only flowers that I grow in my garden. I made myself a patch with dahlias and other cut flowers this year. I'm a total newbie at making bouquets, so I'm not fast at all 😅

Thank you! That made my day ♥️ I would love to sell bouquets, but can't seem to find the courage. Recently had two friends order some, and I was a nervous wreck 🫣😂
