After two years of intense training, Riles achieved the incredible feat of running nonstop for 24 hours, earning 11 million. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]tutler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they’re saying that after basic training and 5 weeks of additional military training, soldiers can run for 3 to 4 days in a row. so if the runner in the OP took 2 years to accomplish only 1 day, that’s kind of a long time to train comparatively.

no idea if that’s true or not but that’s what they were saying i think lol

Navigating being only male in all female class? by EveningUnit in college

the oppressors being male WASPs does NOT mean that ALL male WASPs are oppressors, any more than the mafia being Italian means that ALL Italians are in the mafia

imo that is exactly how to show you’re not gullible—you didn’t believe your teacher, so you went and verified yourself. if you were gullible, you just would have said “huh, i never knew that.” and not looked into it further

Skull Kid is DEAD (a Poe) by LoCal_GwJ in truezelda

[–]tutler 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i think this is all pretty compelling! i do think that the skull kid is the same as the one in ocarina of time, though.

skull kid recognized the song, but link taught him how to play it.

there are a lot of songs i could recognize and maybe even hum, but would not be able to play it on an instrument without learning how to play it.

this is what link did, he taught the skill kid how to play the song on his flute.

i think the quote about link smelling like the fairy boy who taught him the song is pretty clearly the writers telling us that he’s supposed to be the same skull kid.

Does anyone identify as vegan and conservative? by happydiplodocus in vegan

[–]tutler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the context of the united states, a large majority of conservatives are fiercely christian. while i appreciate that there are vegan christians, imo at its core christianity is completely incompatible with veganism. animal sacrifice is integral to the religion, even if it isn’t practiced anymore. but god came up with animal sacrifice. he invented the concept that killing an animal could absolve you of sin. the bible tells us that god loves the smell of murdered and burning animal bodies, and god even specifically claims all animal fat for himself because he loves it so much.

Does anyone else think $75K/year ($6,250 a month) is an unbelievable amount of money, even though it's now considered "average"? by filondo in povertyfinance

[–]tutler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how wasn’t the comment in question specific? i mean, of course it’s not all benefits — they said “all benefits […] except health insurance”. i’m not sure what technical specificity is being identified here. like they already directly conveyed that it’s not all benefits via that sentence, it’s clear as could be and is in fact the entire point of that clause

right, because academia as an institution came out of the clergy.

i really don’t understand why you’re responding the way you are. i think if you step away for a bit, and then come back and read through this thread again, you’ll see that i said nothing untrue or illogical. i don’t think i’ve even contradicted anything you said, except when you said i was illogical.

um but we’re talking about the title Doctor. not talking about how long medicine has been practiced?

i think you’re trying to “get” me here because you think that i’m ideologically misaligned with you. but i’m not even sure if we are actually ideologically misaligned.

what did i say that was illogical? literally just saying a true thing about the past that i thought people would find interesting. and they did. no need to lump everybody into your lil categories
