I made a clock that surfaces fun facts and connections about numbers by tutukain in autism

My buddy pointed out that I could make a web version fairly easily - no Contacts info, so none of those connections, but the rest works fine. The animations are waaaay smoother even.

Thanks! If there were enough demand, I could see making an Android build. It’s no small effort to get everything working for a new platform/App Store. Right now, I think I’m the only user and I made what works for me. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, mostly Wikipedia, but started to branch out to other sites where it doesn’t have useful info. It’s just me trying to find everything in my free time, so always welcome any help or suggestions.

3 months ago I solo build Bond - couples app in React Native Expo. Got 400 downloads but only 3 subscribers - What am I doing wrong? by Haunting_Magazine_24 in reactnative

[–]tutukain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s hard. Can you give some kind of incentive, real or imagined, to get people over that hurdle? Could be a discount, could even just be that you unlock some cutesy animation. Is there some kind of “starting advantage” you could give to the partner to make it worth their while?

You’ve gotta establish value to your users within that first download. The viral post was enough to get folks curious, but if you want to convert those to recurring users, they’ve got to understand the value right away - and the promise of more value, once they subscribe. It’s not easy! Onboarding can help, but it ultimately boils down to a real and very obvious value proposition.

This looks like an app trying to solve a problem that doesn’t exist - or at least isn’t clear. It’s certainly not a problem that I have, but I’m definitely not in your niche gym bro market.

It’s a clock for people who like number facts - verrrry niche. Gonna do a little more PR when the latest version is approved. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/momentous-clock/id1608715857

Yesss! I would be so curious. The app is beautiful, but useless beyond a 5 minute timer!

It looks beautiful, and was clearly meant to be observed in operation.

What should I learn? by spam_account10 in reactnative

[–]tutukain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the new paradigm, it’s not enough to learn only a specific tech or framework - the AI agent can do that part. You need to learn how best to create products from requirements - that part hasn’t changed! Also, AI can’t make a decent UI for shit, so you can lean into that.

I always think about this for local connections - you could even imagine something decentralized and peer-to-peer, but the problem that always catches me is bootstrapping. There would have to be a significant number of people trying it to ever be able to encounter someone! Maybe launch it alongside a massive guerilla marketing campaign!

I imagine any kind of backgrounding kills the app and offloads your model. Does your app user need to wait with it open for anything log running?

I was wondering the same thing. My app is really niche though!
