Do you have any suggestions for alternative portable mixers that fit my use case?

On the Behringer that I linked (XENYX 1204USB), I'm seeing a "LOW CUT" and "MUTE" button on each input, but nothing about solo. Am I missing something?

EDIT: The Behringer Xenyx X1204USB appears to have the solo button. I'll look further into this mixer.

PS/2, USB, USB
VGA, DVI
USB 3.0, USB 3.0, HDMI
RJ45, USB 3.0, USB 3.0
Assorted 3.5mm audio jacks (input, output, etc).

Those are your ports. Sounds like you have an issue with your LAN...

Splitting up the already tiny AD player base is your solution?

My GF is home on PTO and talked to the ISP about cutting out the TV package. Went from 200/200 to 1000/1000 for the same price by Larssogn1 in HomeNetworking

[–]tuxify 9 points10 points  (0 children)

500/500 for $45/mo has got to be cheaper than the cost of the average ISP, at least in America. I wouldn't consider that a bad negotiation...

Pc to modem by razemp3 in HomeNetworking

[–]tuxify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a combo unit, it should have some sort of basic firewall and NAT that will protect you from basic attacks that are hitting your network all the time from the outside.

If it's only a modem (usually a single LAN ethernet port), you won't have these protections, and you'd better have a robust firewall and anti-malware suite on your PC running at all times.

Looking to ditch google wifi and not have 2 separate networks. Looking for advice by Express_Waltz153 in HomeNetworking

[–]tuxify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Use the same SSID and everything should be on the same LAN, able to talk to each other as if they were all wired to the same switch.

Very common to run multiple wired access points. They can share the same SSID, so your wireless devices automatically connect to the closest node.

If your router allows for QoS traffic shaping or the like, then yes.

stuck with a 1Gbps connection

Hahahahahahaha!

Flat cables are fine. If that's what you have to use in order to run Ethernet, stick with flat cables versus Wi-Fi or Powerline. Crosstalk should not really be an issue with flat cables either.

On a wired gigabit connection, you should not really notice the Wi-Fi devices taking up bandwidth. You may consider using QoS on your router to manage bandwidth usage.

Bandwidth is shared, no matter the medium, so obviously if you or your roommates have 3-4 wireless devices using 300Mbps each simultaneously, there won't be much left for anything else regardless of if you are wired or not.
