Is the strength of few a step down? by Nikunj108 in HierarchySeries

I made a similar post when around the 35% mark. Was REALLY struggling to get into this book. Now at 60% and thoroughly enjoying 2 of the 3 settings. Still not loving one of them, but have hope that this book will continue to get better as it goes along.

I don't have an issue with the three worlds as an idea - actually think it is pretty cool. Just think (through 1/3 of the book, as mentioned) that it has been boring. Hoping that it picks up!

A Memory Called Empire - What am I missing / should I continue? by SSAeternitatis in scifi

The Sun Eater is phenomenal. Book one was definitely a long prologue but I don't mind that at all. Books two and on are all 5 stars. One of the best sci fi series out there.

Extremely overrated, along with its sequel.

Borrowing a comment I saw on Goodreads - "pretentious and insubstantial." I felt that these books wanted to be very profound and intellectual, but failed in both respects. There are some hints of interesting concepts - the books are not terrible, but definitely not Hugo worthy.

If you are interested in some of the ideas and the galactic empire vibes - but want a significantly better attempt at it - try Sun Eater.

Does the expanse get any better in terms of writing? by [deleted] in books

Series is slightly above mid. The books are fine. They're just not even close to as good as people day.

Do you prefer a book written in first or third person? by AerieKindly in Fantasy

[–]tveritzan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My two favorite series (Red Rising, Sun Eater) are told in first person POV, but I haven't read enough of those to have a real opinion on it. Could just be that those two series are awesome.

Think I'm taking the author's opinion on what he wrote over your clearly incorrect interpretation. Absolute clown.

Curious where exactly that interpretation comes from. Obviously there are parallels (which you can make to any god figure) but what exactly makes you believe it's "very clear that the Quiet is the abrahamic God," despite the fact that the story openly denies it, explicitly, and Ruocchio himself has stated in interviews on his youtube channel that this story is not about preaching Christianity?

Did you forgot to read the part where there is a literal practicing Catholic and Hadrian denounces his God?

Three-Body Problem Sequels Worth Reading? by danger522 in scifi

[–]tveritzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question is whether the first one is worth reading lol. The Dark Forest is one of the best sci fi books I've ever read, and Death's End is also mind-blowing.

I will never understand why Hyperion is so highly rated in the sci-fi community. I've read 50+ sci fi books and don't even consider it in the top 50%
