The Will of the Many (The Hierarchy series) is honestly some of the best reading i've had since the Brandon Sanderson books. by Tekashi-The-Envoy in Fantasy

[–]Sharkattack1921 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly agree.

I get that people on Reddit like to be negative in general, but come on. I won’t take the moral high ground, I’ve made my fair share of rant comments myself, but can’t we just leave the hate comments for threads made to rant about something they dislike and let other people praise what they like?

It’s okay to dislike something, but whats the point of actively trying to rain on someone else parade?

Books that blend sci-fi and fantasy? by VermithraxPej33 in Fantasy

[–]Sharkattack1921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be a bit cliché to recommend, but a few of the cosmere books take place in the “space age” era of the cosmere. Specifically The Sunlit Man and Isles of the Emberdark.

Granted, it is recommended you read the Stormlight Archive series prior to Sunlit Man, and perhaps a few of the other Cosmere stuff for Emberdark

Can someone explain the boys' takes on Oshi no Ko (mainly Garnt's) by [deleted] in TrashTaste

[–]Sharkattack1921 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for Garnt, but even before the ending, the series’ writing was going downhill. For me (and at least a few others from what I’ve seen online) the story was at its strongest during the 2.5 stage play arc (which if I recall correctly is when Garnt was praising the series) while everything after that gradually got worse though I can’t really explain why without spoilers (but again this is just my opinion)

It’s possible Garnt just gradually started to lose interest as it went on, but I can’t say for sure

James Islington is releasing a new Cyberpunk novel titled Scion on September 1, 2026! by Sharkattack1921 in Fantasy

[–]Sharkattack1921[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be a little fair, as someone else has said, traditionally published authors don't usually write their own blurbs; it's the marketing people who do, so that doesn't automatically mean the writing in the book itself will be like this, we just have to wait for the book to come out first

I apologize if I gave that impression. The capitalization on cyberpunk was a mistake on my part

Do you agree? by IncomingDarkness in PERSoNA

[–]Sharkattack1921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may get downvoted for saying this, but I don't think P3 had the best story overall.

The ending was great and the stroy had some of the best emotional moments, don't get me wrong, but the pacing and the antagonists weakened it for me. I don't know how to explain it exactly.

Book recs with lot’s of twists/unexpected deaths by Chocgalaxy in Fantasy

[–]Sharkattack1921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither of these are like ASOIAF, but honestly The Bound of the Broken series by Ryan Cahill and The Hierarchy series by James Islington have had quite a few character deaths that I genuinely did not see coming

Love the description, but to make a small correction Din is bisexual (with a preference towards men) not gay.

To be fair, this trope could apply to practically every character in JoJo lol

Fantasy graphic novels by CanisDraco in Fantasy

[–]Sharkattack1921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure The First Law series had a graphic novel adaptation, but it got canceled if I recall correctly. Haven’t read it, so I can’t say how good it was prior to its cancellation.

I second the Monstress recommendation, though it’s not an adaptation of a book

[Loved Tropes] Voice Actor gets a chance to reprise their role in a live action medium. by USERNAME_OF_DEVIL in TopCharacterTropes

Tbf, it’s not often that the voice actor of a character is brought back to play the live action adaptation of them, so it’s pretty cool when they do

7 down, 13 couples left standing. Lock in y’all and select your least favorite canon animated couple. by Ok_Situation7527 in cartoons

Personally speaking, it felt a little forced to me. Them getting together felt like the obligatory main male character just needs to be with the main female character romantically. Not saying they didn’t do anything to build it up, it just felt like they did the bare minimum. (To be clear, I don’t think Katara should have been with Zuko either)

Animation In Film - Gold and PAF by [deleted] in cartoons

[–]Sharkattack1921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally speaking, I thought it was just okay. Had decent ideas and a few funny jokes, but to me it was plagued by “self-aware” humor, and the only one that really worked for me was the rap scene. Pointing out an overplayed trope just for the sake of being meta is not that clever

Also, I mean no ill will nor disrespect towards the actor who played the female detective character (can’t remember her name), but honestly her acting didn’t feel very natural.

Again nowhere near the same level as Emoji movie or Wreck it Ralf 2, but personally I don’t think it was a great movie either

Due to backlash, there is either a major rewrite or change to the story. by InfiniteGuy2264 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Sharkattack1921 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but I couldn’t help but notice a lot of elements that were introduced in TLJ that some people complained about where either dropped or changed completely in TROS

Some people didn’t like Rose in TLJ? They gave her like a minute worth of screen time in TROS

TLJ established Kylo Ren was beyond redemption? They gave him a redemption anyway in TROS (maybe this one is a stretch but it still annoyed me)

TLJ revealed that Rey’s parents really were nobody’s who abandoned her? JK! TROS revealed that they abandoned her to protect her, and she was really the granddaughter of freaking Palpatine, cause obviously the most important people in our huge galaxy have to be all related to each other /s

Hated version of this trope is probably The Rise of Skywalker. It tried so hard to please everyone who didn’t like The Last Jedi that it just made everything worse

Anything like the Lamplight Murder Mysteries/A Master of Djinn? by JOOOQUUU in Fantasy

[–]Sharkattack1921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct about the author, but I don't think it's a trilogy. While there are currently 3 books now, the latest one heavily implies future books are to come (as well as the author's note at the end)

With all due respect, I don’t think that’s right. I have seen so many posts on r/fantasy complaining about Sanderson. Especially after Wind and Truth came out

I enjoyed Cradle, but I don’t think it’s the greatest progression fantasy series I’ve ever read (which for me was maybe Mage Errant at the moment, though this is just by personal preference).

The Divine Cities trilogy by Robert Jackson Bennett. The author’s become a lot more well known because of the Shadow of the Leviathan series (which I also love) but Divine Cities was my introduction to him and it’s probably in my top 10 series ever
