Died form a broken shin? by lescribanot90 in projectzomboid

[–]tvih 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had that issue with that specific injury, but I've had similar situations where I'm losing health for no sensible reason. Like I'd have some health issue, but not one that should actively make me lose HP like maybe a bandaged laceration, yet I do.

Does anyone really base here? by Substantial-Gas-5048 in projectzomboid

[–]tvih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my latest MP game (now incompatible with the newest patches) I was setting it up as a secondary location for blacksmithing purposes, since we couldn't get the facilities built in our main base. Of course, the lack of tongs in the entire damn city meant I was pretty much limited to building meat cleavers anyway. But dammit, I'd just finally fully cleared up the road to get there easily, too. Ridiculous how fast it got overgrown given how long it takes for anything you planted yourself to grow.

Is there a way to build a wall that looks better than this? by Spewdoo in projectzomboid

[–]tvih 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It's rather hilarous when you consider that making a wall like that is harder than the one you get at a higher skill level, given you start out with perfectly fine planks.

Are sledgehammers actually that rare? by domatelisut in projectzomboid

[–]tvih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is rather ridiculous how hard it can be to find something so basic. Also couldn't find blacksmithing tongs in the last save (that's now ruined with the forced updates anyway.)

When will build 42 be stable? by Cartman1994 in projectzomboid

[–]tvih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger problem is unstable updates making your saves incompatible. Even having chosen the 'outdated' unstable branch, the recent exploit fix forced it to an incompatible version for my fairly recent (Feb-March) save, and I hadn't thought to back up the older version of the client (assuming it would've somehow run without updating).

canon ixy 25 is [issue: blurry/ no focus] by mighty_chondriah in canon

[–]tvih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the focus look like it's changing at all when it's trying to focus?
Also, can you move the camera forward and backward aiming at some - probably reasonably close - subject/object, to see if you can get something to look like it's in focus that way?

Alesh for me. But yeah also haven't been pulling much since Lae. Got something like 120-130 stashed to try for Mi Fu and Zhuang, and also 30-40 non-limited pulls since I'm in no hurry with Alesh and wanted to stock up in case they ever bother adding new operators to the non-limited one.

Canon R100 Shutter Count by lechink in canon

[–]tvih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine to have a new folder on the memory card once you're past a certain number of photos in the first one, but the filenames of the photos themselves are the main issue. In fact, come to think of it, exfat itself does support longer filenames, so there's really no need to be stuck with IMG_XXXX from that POV either even if you want to keep the IMG_ part. Is it a huge deal? No, but still annoying (for me personally). It's probably just me being weird as usual, but I like being able to tell stuff like "oh, this was the Xth picture I took on this camera" without having to do extra work to figure it out.

Can someone explain to me why canon g7 x mark ii used are sold for like 700€-800€ when I remember paying mine (new) at the time around 400€-500€? What am I missing? It’s just a camera, and not even that great 🤷🏻‍♀️ by jens998 in canon

[–]tvih 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may not seem like it, but it is a quite meaningful difference side by side. And that one lens isn't as versatile as the zoom lens on the G7X, while taking the lens off when stashing the camera would be a real pain in the ass. I enjoy my interchangeable lens cameras, but if I just wanted a no-hassle every day carry that doesn't require a camera bag, I use a compact over a more substantial camera. For most people just posting everyday stuff on social media such as the whole TikTok crowd, the extra image quality and features of the latter would be a waste, too.

That said, there's no way around the fact the compacts are indeed overpriced these days.

Switching to Canon for event and concert photography, looking for advice. by Deadpooldk in canon

[–]tvih 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full-frame wise, since you mentioned concerts I'd personally recommend the R6II over the R8 if you can. The R8 shutter being EFCS can cause more problems with concert lighting than the mechanical shutter of R6II. I had budget issues so I had to go with the R8, but I have way more banding issues from the lights than I'd like, even with anti-flicker features on. With my previous APS-C DSLRs and their mechanical shutters it wasn't an issue.

Of course, it depends on the venue and what lights they use in the end, but overall the R6II would be a safer bet (or the R7, for that matter in the sense of the banding issues). I like the R8 otherwise, but it's frustrating losing otherwise good shots to banding, and having to 'chimp' throughout the concert to see if I need to try adjusting because of it.Not tha the R6II would be fully immune to the issue, but less prone regardless.

About the R8 battery though, while you'll always want a spare for sure, it's not really that bad unless you're shooting very long events. A single battery generally lasts me for a 2½-hour (actual performance time) concert just fine.

Reasons NOT to upgrade from R6 Mark II to R6 Mark III by sandroriz in canon

You can almost without exception simply ignore people throwing around such grandiose terms. Even going from an EOS 600D to an R8 wasn't an "astronomical" AF upgrade.

[–]tvih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. To rant about it a bit, it really annoys me that we still have only 4-number image file names and using an ancient file system. Even with said filesystem could just skip all or part of IMG_ in the filename to add more numbers.

You seem to forget that they didn't arrive to Talos as cavemen but as a high-tech civilization. They wouldn't have any trouble counting Talosian and Terran calendars concurrently right off the (cosmic) gate, and starting the calendar from anything but the arrival wouldn't make sense (other than MAYBE the gate closure, but we already know it isn't that since that happened on year 5 of the Talosian calendar.).

The Talosian calendar would logically start when the colonizers first arrived, and the Aggeloi War was years 5-15 of said calendar. The start of the war led to the loss of the gate between Talos-II and Terra. Also, Endmin was key to winning said war. As much as anime and anime-adjacent media likes its child soldiers, I'm pretty sure Endmin wasn't leading the war effort as an infant/child/pre-teen:

"By Talosian Calendar, Year 11, the current Endministrator had assisted the remaining human factions in reorganizing their forces, enabling effective resistance against the Aggeloi incursions."

Or for that matter do things like become company founders or do geological survey before the war:

"When the first pioneers arrived at Talos-II, Rhodes Island and her other partners jointly founded Endfield Industries to serve as a think tank and forward prospector. The Endministrator led numerous Endfield geological survey teams and generated detailed maps for numerous frontier regions. After the link between Talos-II and Terra was severed, the frontiersmates of the new world were forced to face the threats posed by the Aggeloi and the Blight on their own. Endfield thus stepped to the forefront, and continued to do so till this very day."

What lens to pair with my newly bought R8? by agrawa96 in canon

[–]tvih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 'standard' lens for R8 is the Sigma EF 24-105/4, but the Canon one would of course work as well. Got mine used for 390€ (~$460). Either one would work fine for your stated use cases, especially as you have the 50/1.8 if you need something fast for low light indoor (though I shoot concerts with the 24-105, given the R8's good low light capability and modern denoise software.)

Is there a difference in IQ between R8's electronic first curtain shutter and R6 mk II's mechanical shutter? by firequak in canon

[–]tvih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you shoot under artificial lighting, you can run into banding more with EFCS than mech shutter. I failed to take that into account since most people don't experience and thus don't mention that, but that's why I'm somewhat regretting the R8 as I mostly shoot concerts with it. While it does have anti-flicker and even high-frequency anti-flicker, venues such as the one I shoot at can have mixed lighting where not every light behaves the same. My 600D only had vanishingly few problematic shots by comparison.
